This digital elevation model contains ground surface elevations for the valleys of rivers draining the west side of Mount Rainier, Washington. Elevations are mostly from the 1/9th arc-second (approximately 3 meter) resolution U.S. Geological Survey National Elevation Dataset (NED). The NED data were projected to the Universal Transverse Mercator Zone 10 coordinate system and mosaicked to form a single elevation grid of the study area. In the area of Alder Lake and La Grande Reservoir, along the Nisqually River, water surface elevations were replaced with approximations of lake-bed elevations. The bed elevation of Alder Lake is based mostly on bathymetry collected in 2010 and 2011 but is locally based on supplemental...
In 2009, the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho released and implemented the Kootenai River Habitat Restoration Master Plan. This plan aimed to restore, enhance, and maintain the Kootenai River habitat and landscape to support and sustain habitat conditions for aquatic species and animal populations. In support of these restoration efforts, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, conducted high-resolution multibeam echosounder bathymetric surveys as a baseline bathymetric monitoring survey on the Kootenai River near Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Three channel patterns or reaches exist in the study area: braided, meander, and a transitional zone connecting the braided and meander reaches. Bathymetric...

Coastal resources are increasingly impacted by erosion, extreme weather events, sea-level rise, tidal flooding, and other potential hazards related to climate change. These hazards have varying impacts on coastal landscapes due to the numerous geologic, oceanographic, ecological, and socioeconomic factors that exist at a given location. Here, an assessment framework is introduced that synthesizes existing datasets describing the variability of the landscape and hazards that may act on it to evaluate the likelihood of coastal change along the U.S coastline within the coming decade. The pilot study, conducted in the Northeastern U.S. (Maine to Virginia), is comprised of datasets derived from a variety of federal,...

This imagery dataset consists of 3-meter resolution, lidar-derived imagery of the Roanoke 30 x 60 minute quadrangle in Virginia. It also covers a part of the Appalachian Basin Province. The source data used to construct this imagery consists of 1-meter resolution lidar-derived digital elevation models (DEMs). The lidar source data were compiled from different acquisitions published between 2017 and 2021 and downloaded from the USGS National Map TNM Download. The data were processed using geographic information systems (GIS) software. The data spatial reference is the WGS 1984 geographic coordinate system. This representation illustrates the terrain as a hillshade with contrast adjusted to highlight local relief...

This dataset was created to support the Washington D.C. StreamStats project funded by the Washington D.C. Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE). The dataset contains digital elevation model (DEM), flow direction and catchment layers that were conditioned using Washingtons D.C.’s stormwater network layer. The data are hosted online as a component of the USGS StreamStats web application (https://streamstats.usgs.gov), where users can interact with a map of Washington D.C.’s stormwater pipe system and National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) “best resolution” blue lines to delineate drainage basins that account for pipe flow. This project utilized 1-meter (high resolution) terrain products, which improves upon existing...
Classified land cover and vegetation canopy cover data for an aeolian dune field near Lees Ferry, AZ
These data were compiled for assessing how geomorphic changes measured as topographic differences from repeat surveys represent measured and modelled estimates of aeolian sediment transport and dune mobility. Objective(s) of our study were to investigate whether topographic changes can serve as a proxy for aeolian transport and sediment mobility in dunefield environments. This was accomplished by relating topographic changes to modeled and observed estimates of sediment transport and dune mobility over months to decades within a partially vegetated dunefield starved of upwind sediment supplies. We specifically tested if topographic changes measured as net and total volume changes and topographic surface roughness...

This portion of the USGS data release presents topography data collected during surveys performed in the Columbia River littoral cell, Washington and Oregon, in 2020 (USGS Field Activity Number 2020-622-FA). Topographic profiles were collected by walking along survey lines with global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers mounted on backpacks. Prior to data collection, vertical distances between the GNSS antennas and the ground were measured using a tape measure. Hand-held data collectors were used to log raw data and display navigational information allowing surveyors to navigate survey lines spaced at 100- to 1000-m intervals along the beach. Profiles were surveyed from the landward edge of the study area...

This portion of the data release presents a digital surface model (DSM) and digital elevation model (DEM) of the exposed Los Padres Reservoir delta where the Carmel River enters the reservoir. The DSM and DEM have a resolution of 10 centimeters per pixel and were derived from structure-from-motion (SfM) processing of aerial imagery collected with an unoccupied aerial system (UAS) on 2017-11-01. The DSM represents the elevation of the highest object within the bounds of a cell, including vegetation, woody debris and other objects. The DEM represent the elevation of the ground surface where it was visible to the acquisiton system. Due to the nature of SfM processing, the DEM may not represent a true bare-earth surface...

This portion of the data release presents a bathymetric point cloud from an unoccupied aerial system (UAS) survey of the coral reef off Waiakane, Molokai, Hawaii, on 24 June 2018. The point cloud has been corrected for the effects of refraction using the techniques described in Dietrich (2017a). The point cloud was created from structure-from-motion (SfM) processing of aerial imagery collected using a UAS with a Ricoh GR II digital camera fitted with a circular polarizing filter. During the survey, a pressure sensor was deployed in the survey area to gain an accurate measurement of the water surface elevation (WSE). After a preliminary dense point cloud was derived from SfM processing, the WSE was used to calculate...
