This dataset contains shapefiles and associated metadata showing evolution of the "June 27th" lava flow (Puʻu ʻŌʻō eruptive episode 61e) that was active at Kīlauea volcano from June 27, 2014, to June 8, 2016. The dataset contains (1) an attributed polyline shapefile and (2) an attributed polygon shapefile with features that represent the outline and extent of the flow on 35 different dates. The dataset also contains (3) an attributed polyline shapefile with features that represent the eruptive fissures associated with this episode of the eruption and the principle ground cracks that were occupied by lava during lava flow emplacement, and (4) an attributed polyline shapefile with features representing the mapped...

Medicine Lake volcano (MLV) is a very large shield-shaped volcano located in northern California where it forms part of the southern Cascade Range of volcanoes. It has erupted hundreds of times during its half-million-year history, including nine times during the past 5,200 years, most recently 950 years ago. This record represents one of the highest eruptive frequencies among Cascade volcanoes and includes a wide variety of different types of lava flows and at least two explosive eruptions that produced widespread fallout. Compared to those of a typical Cascade stratovolcano, eruptive vents at MLV are widely distributed, extending 55 km north-south and 40 km east-west. The total area covered by MLV lavas is >2,000...
Data in this data release contain model input and output for simulations used to estimate the amount of tephra that could fall on the Hanford nuclear waste repository. The results of that study were written up in the report: Mastin, L.G., Van Eaton, A.E., and Schwaiger, H.F., 2020, A Probabilistic Assessment of Tephra-Fall Hazards at Hanford, Washington, from a Future Eruption of Mount St. Helens. U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 2020-1133, 54 pp. That study cites supplementary tables and files, which are included in this data release. The supplementary data are contained in three zip files: 1) "Main_report_supplementary_tables.zip" contains the supplementary tables cited in the main report, along...

This report evaluates the volcano-related hazards, including regional mafic lava flows, silicic lava domes, pyroclastic flows, lahars, and volcanic ash, of the Lassen region, California, which is here defined as an area between the Pit River on the north and the southern limit of active Cascade volcanism, approximately 5–10 km south of the southern boundary of Lassen Volcanic National Park. Most active volcanism occurs in a zone about 40 km wide between Viola on the west and the eastern boundary of Caribou Wilderness Area, but sparser volcanism in the west extends the width of this zone to about 75 km. All vents and deposits known or estimated to be less than 100,000 years are identified and considered in establishing...

The California volcano locations, threat rank and hazard zones data release contains two shapefiles for download or use as a web map service. The California Volcanic Center Locations shapefile was created to provide a generalized location of volcano hazard sources. The California Volcano Hazard Zones shapefile was created from previously published hazard zone reports. Specific details about each file can be found in the metadata included with each file and the read-me document for this data release. Together, these files were used to define California Volcano Hazards for the GIS analysis that supports conclusions in the California's exposure to volcano hazards report. Geologists produce hazard zone maps to convey...
