These feature data are part of a larger dataset containing shapefiles and associated metadata for lava flows erupted at Kilauea volcano from ca. 1790 through 1982. The complete dataset includes all known subaerial eruptions in the volcano's Southwest Rift Zone and East Rift Zone, and selected flows erupted within the summit caldera, during this time period. Two attributed shapefiles are associated with each eruption: a polyline shapefile for the lava flow contacts and eruptive fissures, and a polygon shapefile showing the full extent of the lava flow after emplacement. In total, this dataset contains 100 shapefiles, each with an associated metadata .txt file, representing 50 separate eruptions. The lava flow contacts...

Two empirical simple linear regression models were developed from SedCam imagery and concurrent physical sediment samples over a 20-month period at the East Branch Brandywine Creek gage (USGS 01480870). The image files included here are a subset, used in the calibration dataset for these regression models. Models relate the explanatory variable, Rmax (maximum digital number of the red band, which peaks at a wavelength of 590 nanometers) to point and cross-sectional mean sample response variables (milligrams per liter). These regression models predict suspended-sediment concentration from a non-contact sediment surrogate technique to improve surface water monitoring operations. Files include Nikon Electronic Format...

This data publication contains data files collected as part of a field, laboratory, and modeling effort aimed at uncovering ecological drivers of avian malaria transmission and impacts on Hawaiian honeycreepers across an elevational gradient on the eastern flank of Mauna Loa and Kilauea volcanoes on Hawaii Island. From 2001-2004, mosquito and bird data were collected at nine sites ranging 25 to 1,800 m above sea level. This data publication includes site and sampling coordinate data, mosquito capture data, mosquito avian malaria infection data, and point-transect distance sampling data. Site coordinate data consists of GPS spatial location data of sampling points where mosquitoes were captured and birds were surveyed...

The 2018 lower East Rift Zone eruption of Kīlauea Volcano began in the late afternoon of 3 May, with fissure 1 opening and erupting lava onto Mohala Street in the Leilani Estates subdivision, part of the lower Puna District of the Island of Hawaiʻi. For the first week of the eruption, relatively viscous lava flowed only within a kilometer (0.6 miles) of the fissures within Leilani Estates, before activity shifted downrift (east-northeast) and out of the subdivision during mid-May. Around 18 May, activity along the lower East Rift Zone intensified, and fluid lava erupting at higher effusion rates from the downrift fissures reached the ocean within two days. Near the end of May, this more vigorous activity shifted...

This dataset contains digital data that were used for the creation of a geologic map shown in Figure 3 in USGS SIR 2017-5150; Postglacial Eruptive History and Geochemistry of Semisopochnoi Volcano, Western Aleutian Islands, Alaska by Coombs, M.L. and others. The map shows the generalized geology of the island and the locations of stations occupied during field work conducted in the summer of 2005. The data are based on mapping completed during the field work, high-resolution digital imagery, and geochemical and radiometric analyses of rock and soil samples.
