Hyperspectral and RGB image data used to map salmon spawning locations on the American River, California, November 5-7, 2018
An unmanned aerial system (UAS) was used to acquire red/green/blue (RGB) and hyperspectral image data from the American River in California November 5-7, 2018, to support research on remote sensing of rivers, specifically mapping chinook salmon spawning locations (redds) as part of an overall salmon habitat assessment program. The RGB images were acquired uisng a DJI MAtrice 210 equipped with a Zenmuse 4S optical camera. Imagery was collected along several parallel flight lines to ensure full coverage of the study reach. This data release documents three Microsoft Excel tables (and corresponding comma separated data files) that contain estimates of tritium in precipitation data for the continental United States. Versions of this data release contain additional tritium data for more recent years. The current version has tritium data through 2022. Using publicly available data for Madison and Oneida counties, New York, a series of geospatial overlays were created at 1:24,000 scale to examine the bedrock geology, groundwater table, soils, and surficial geology. Bedrock and surficial geology were refined using extant bedrock maps, well and borehole data from water- and gas-wells, soil data, and lidar data. Groundwater data were collected from New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and U.S. Geological Survey water-well databases to estimate the groundwater table. Artificial sweetener results from groundwater and surface water samples collected on Kirtland Air Force Base and the surrounding region
As part of a large-scale study of nitrate contamination on Kirtland Air Force Base in central New Mexico, the USGS collected groundwater and surface water samples for artificial sweetener analyses. Samples were collected following standard USGS procedures (U.S. Geological Survey, variously dated), filtered to 0.45 microns, and frozen until analysis. Artificial sweeteners analyzed include neotame, acesulfame-K, aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose. Of the 49 sites sampled, 17 sites had measurable detections of artificial sweeteners. Neotame was the most commonly detected sweetener (n=12) followed by saccharin (n=5), acesulfame-K (n=2), aspartame (n=1), and sucralose (n=0). Concentrations ranged from 0.0003–0.011 μg/L...

There is a need for additional control tools that are less expensive, readily available, and will not leave a residue after treatment. Carbon dioxide has these advantages over chemical pesticides and has demonstrated effectiveness for control of a range of aquatic invasive species, including dreissenid mussels. This dataset provides cost estimates for 668 dam removal projects occurring in the United States. Cost estimates were obtained by searching the internet for sources of information that mention the cost of dam removal projects listed in the USGS Dam Removal Information Portal. When cost data were not available for a dam removal but contact information was, then personal communications were used to acquire additional cost information. These data are synthetic Green's functions used to generate synthetic seismograms for teleseismic waveform modeling purposes to estimate seismic source characteristics. Primarily, these sets of Green's functions are used by the USGS National Earthquake Information Center to perform depth phase modeling using the SynDepth software package (https://code.usgs.gov/ghsc/neic/syndepth). Using high-resolution sonar technologies with geographic information systems (GIS) and object based image analysis, benthic characteristics of the Illinois River have been interpreted to support invasive carp research, monitoring and control. The study plan consisted of data collection and analysis of the Brandon, Dresden, Starved Rock, Marseilles, Peoria, La Grange and Alton reaches of the Illinois River. This ArcGIS Add-In tool assigns telemetry receivers a “river address,” with the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) flowlines providing the river name (analogous to a street name in a postal address) and a distance along flowline (the house number in a postal address). Using this information, it is possible to sequence receivers along a flowline. Once sequenced, receiver data can then be analyzed to identify where receivers are being bypassed by receiver tags, or if there are instances of improbable tag movement between receivers.

Performance metrics for 95- percent confidence intervals of estimated daily streamflow using four transfer-based simulation methods across the continental U.S.
Daily streamflow was simulated at 1,331 validation streamgages across the continental United States using both the drainage area ratio (DAR) method and nonlinear spatial interpolation using flow duration curves (QPPQ). Each simulation method was implemented using two index gage selection methods: nearest neighbor (NN) and map correlation (MC), resulting in a total of 4 daily streamflow simulations at each validation streamgage (NNDAR, MCDAR, NNQPPQ, MCQPPQ).
