Noise from vibrating screens is generated in two ways: 1) Noise due to the material being processed and, 2) noise from the screen itself. Nonmetallic decks had been shown previously to reduce material noise. The noise reduction and change in screening performance was quantified for six non -metallic decks using dolomite, granite and coal as the materials. The non -metallic decks were from 2 to 7 dBA quieter and from -1 to +10 percent less efficient as compared to a steel wire cloth deck of the same open area. Damping of the sidewalls and isolation of the drive mechanismhad been shown, in a development configuration, to reduce the noise of the screen itself. Tests of four prototype damping treatments gave reduction...
Flynn Creek crater is a 3.8 km diameter, 360-million-year-old impact structure located in north central Tennessee, and is an invaluable terrestrial analog for the study of impact cratering dynamics. The Flynn Creek Crater Sample Collection consists of over two thousand boxes of drill core from 18 drill holes in the crater’s central uplift, floor, and rim. Impact-induced hydrothermal systems are of considerable scientific interest because they may have played a significant role in the origin and evolution of life on early Earth and produced temporary near-surface habitable environments on Mars. Between 1967 and 1979, USGS scientist Dr. David Roddy conducted a drilling program at Flynn Creek crater. The drilling...
This report describes the development and application of PHASEQ/FLOW, a geochemical flow simulator capable of describing the dynamic changes in chemical composition of an aqueous solution during flow in a permeable medium. The solution components can react through intraaqueous reactions, redox, precipitation, or dissolution. The assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium ensures maximum generality with respect to the number of species and components possible; however, the fluid flow itself is limited to one - dimension. The report describes several applications: generic batch equilibria, flowing equilibria, uranium roll -front deposition, and roll-front leaching.
Map Package format. Structure point data set containing locations and structure type, with strike and dip (planar features) and trend and plunge (linear features). The symbology is derived from ESRI Representations associated with the SymbolFGDCLookup table in the geodatabase. Most trends and dips are based on field measurements using Brunton or similar compass. A sun compass was employed in areas of strong magnetic signature, such as iron-formation. Contains bedrock structural measurements acquired by the multiple field geologists over 40+ years. Collected from bedrock exposures and from data transcribed from published and unpublished analog (non-digital) maps. To access the full data set, download using the link...
The iron mining industry is currently treating leaner, finer-grained and more complex ores than in the past. In processing these materials, the finer ground products are causing increasing problems in waste disposal and process water recovery. Current legislation also provides penalties for accidental or intentional discharge of wastes which can be construed as having an adverse impact on the environment. Thus, past practices of discharging process wastes to the watershed and of impoundment covering large acreages are subject to increasingly restrictive sociological pressures. This means that reclamation of water presently lost in solid -liquid separations will become increasingly important.
