This collection (known internally at Maryland Geological Survey as Component 8) consists of 211 infrared, 9 in. by 9 in. aerial photographs (211 unique frames) flown on a 7.5-minute U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) quadrangle basis. The photographs date from 1988-1989 and were flown or otherwise acquired by the USGS National Aerial Photograph Program (NAPP). The Maryland counties covered by these photographs include Allegany, Anne Arundel, Calvert, Cecil, Charles, Dorchester, Kent, Prince George’s, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, St. Mary’s, Talbot, Washington, and Worcester Counties. The scale of these photographs is not printed on the photographs; however, Maryland Geological Survey (MGS) calculates the scale to be approximately...

Paper copies of chemical analyses made at Illinois State Geological Survey from approximately 1932 to 1995. Includes chemical analyses for approximately 30,000 coal samples, 20,000 rock samples, 5,000 gas samples, 5,000 brine samples, and 5,000 water samples.

Poorly-labeled boxes of rock, sediment, and fossil specimens collected by individual workers at different times. Also, numerous samples of Cenozoic volcanic ashes that may be of unrealized future value as a reference collection. Hand specimens exist in our collections, but they are completely uncataloged and are improperly stored. This collection may be discarded as additional space restrictions are imposed.

The 3002’ length core was extracted from the Redstone Quarry in Conway, NH in 1975 as part of an evaluation of geothermal potential produced by the natural decay of several radioactive minerals present in the Jurassic age Conway Granite pluton. The core extracted from the borehole at the Redstone Quarry is the deepest core drilled in New Hampshire. The Redstone Core project was part of a collaboration between the New Hampshire State Geologist and the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration. Significant geothermal resources were not found. NHGS estimates that approximately half of the original 3002’ foot core remains in core boxes with sufficient documentation tags to identify the depth intervals each...

The Historic Images Collection includes approximately 15,500 photographs, slides, lantern slides and digital media in this collection were taken during the course of geologic, mineral resource, and geologic hazard investigations carried out by Virginia Energy staff beginning in the first half of the 20th century. The collection includes images of important rock outcrops that demonstrate key features of stratigraphic units, fossils indicative of the age of rock formations, outcrop-scale geologic structures such as faults and folds, economically significant minerals and mine sites, and geologic hazards such as landslides and sinkholes. Images are available online in JPG format. High resolution imagery is available...
As part of its Geologic Legacy Program, the NJGWS scanned and digitized documents from recently retired geologist Richard Volkert. These documents scanned included 46 bedrock geology field notebooks.

This collection includes folders that contain coal chemical data from Indiana, collected before 1990. This collection is publicly accessible.

Earl Edward Brabb spent his 40-year career with the U.S.Geological Survey carrying out a number of scientific investigations with a focus on natural hazards. He is the author or co-author of more than 170 maps and reports. During his career with USGS, Earl E. Brabb produced multiple fieldbooks dating back to 1957. His fieldbooks are currently being scanned and converted to PDFs.

Location data for exploratory, sciencific, or engineering borings conducted statwide since the early 1900s. Drill Core and/or other samples from a large number of these borings are stored in the DNR's Drill Core Library in Hibbing, Minnesota. For more information on the drill core library please vist the DNR's webpage: http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lands_minerals/dc_library.html

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) completed an inventory of the holdings of the DNR Drill Core Library (DCL). The Drill Core Library facility contains geologic materials including drill core, rotasonic samples, cuttings, pulps and rejects, processed materials, peat, thin sections, thin section billets and hand samples. The inventory project also included identifying space and preservation issues, beginning the process of centralizing and standardizing the administrative databases for all holdings, and making more information within the DCL publicly available.
