This is the collection of original paper gamma-ray logs, copies and other items that are associated with the gamma-ray logs housed at the Indiana Geological Survey. They are stored in 12 file cabinets. This represents all of the original paper copies since 1978 when the collection began. Each log can be found filed in the original file, used mainly as a master file, as well as by county, the working file. The paper logs have been digitized made available to the public at https://igws.indiana.edu/borehole-logs in .las and .pdf format.
The Indiana Geological and Water Survey received support from the National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program to inventory, reduce, and rehouse 794.7 linear feet of petroleum and water well borehole records into archival-quality boxes, create a dedicated and functional Records Center at its renovated home on IU’s Bloomington campus by installing a high-density mobile shelving unit, and cull resources from 26,000 files housed on its internal server to incorporate usable records into the public-facing IGWS Digital Collections website. These tasks represent ongoing efforts to centralize, consolidate, and enhance public and research access to the physical records displaced during renovation and digital...

CollectiveAccess and ResourceSpace Tandem (CARST) is a novel cyberinfrastructure and standards-based data framework built from free and open-source platforms linked via plugin to promote inter-domain discoverability. The CollectiveAccesss installation schema augments a PastPerfect Museum Software variant developed by Whirl-i-Gig, Inc. with field elements from Darwin Core and Access to Biological Collection Data’s Extension for Geoscience to better support geological and paleontological collections. The tandem plugin was developed in conjunction with AVP. This collections management environment will be made available for reuse by other state geological surveys and the USGS.

This collection includes records for non-water wells in Indiana. Some County Strat Test (CST) wells are pretty shallow boreholes located within the state. Most are related to petroleum exploration and development efforts. Data includes completion reports, scout tickets, geophysical logs, sample descriptions and test results. Some records include small-scale geophysical and colored driller's logs. This collection is housed in the Records Center at the Indiana Geological and Water Survey, Indiana University, Bloomington, and is accessible by appointment.
