This ArcGIS map package contains climate data layers selected from The Nature Conservancy's Climate Wizard 1, a user-friendly viewer and data portal that provides access to Maurer et al.'s 2007 downscaled climate data and PRISM climate data. The data layers were downloaded from the custom application of the website (climatewizardcustom.org), which allows users to upload a shapefile and concentrate on an area of interest (in this case, the footprint of the SRLCC). The map package displays data sets for the A2 emissions scenario. Emission scenarios are possibilities for future conditions based on greenhouse gas emissions, land use and other environmental factors 2. The A2 scenario was selected from the three...

Citation: Kunkel, K.E, L.E. Stevens, S.E. Stevens, L. Sun, E. Janssen, D. Wuebbles, K.T. Redmond, and J.G. Dobson, 2013: Regional Climate Trends and Scenarios for the U.S. National Climate Assessment. Part 5. Climate of the Southwest U.S., NOAA Technical Report NESDIS 142-5, 79 pp. Description from Preface: " This document is one of series of regional climate descriptions designed to provide input that can be used in the development of the National Climate Assessment (NCA). As part of a sustained assessment approach, it is intended that these documents will be updated as new and well-vetted model results are available and as new climate scenario needs become clear. It is also hoped that these documents (and associated...

The Forest Service's West Wide Climate Change GeoBrowser is an online map viewer that displays GIS layers from the Climate Impacts Group's 2011 climate projections. The web site also offers a downloadable map document (MXD file) that lets users view the layers as map services in ArcMAP. Note: there is a significant portion of the Southern Rockies LCC that is not included in these data sets (parts of Colorado and New Mexico). The Climate Impacts Group's study covers four river basins (the Colorado River, Great Basin, Columbia River and Upper Missouri River Basins).

Link to Data in Data Basin. These data sets from the California Academy of Sciences show climate projections (temperature and precipitation) for all four seasons. From the California Academy of Sciences' metadata (for a precipitation projection): Using the simple anomaly method (modifying a historical baseline with differences or ratios projected by General Circulation Models), scientists from the California Academy of Sciences downscaled monthly total precipitation from 16 different global circulation models (GCMs). The GCMs were described in the latest Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC 2007) and archived at the WCRP PCMDI ( http://www-pcmdi.llnl.gov/ipcc/about_ipcc.php). Monthly total precipitation...

These data sets are subsets of the Maurer, et al. (2007) bias corrected, spatially downscaled monthly climate predictions 1 . The predictions were subsetted for the SRLCC and its ecoregions using the USGS Geo Data Portal or GDP ( http://cida.usgs.gov/climate/gdp/ ). The GDP can calculate statistics of a gridded time series based on a particular area of interest (in this case, the uploaded shapefiles of the SRLCC and its ecoregions). After the input data sets (by Maurer, et al.) were processed through the GDP, the output CSV files contain tabular data for the SRLCC and individual ecoregions. Each value for precipitation in an output file is a mean across the SRLCC or ecoregion area. For a description of the...

NOAA’s Historical Climate Trends product allows users to create and view graphs of trends in historical precipitation or temperature (annual or seasonal) over specific geographical areas. The graphs show how trends compare to long-term averages. The data source is NOAA's National Climatic Data Center.
Description from http://scenarios.globalchange.gov: "On these pages you will find information about and access to a suite of climate and other scenarios produced as input to the U.S. National Climate Assessment. There are documents, graphics, references to data sets, and other resources that have been prepared to depict a range of plausible future conditions against which risks, vulnerability, and opportunities can be assessed at regional and national scale. In addition to providing input to the National Climate Assessment, these scenarios are designed to be useful to a variety of other users including researchers, technical report teams, and decision makers. Over the next several years, we expect to evolve the...

The Colorado Plateau Rapid Ecoregional Assessment (REA) website contains links to the final report. Data from the report are shared through the Colorado Plateau REA Data Portal . Data portal maps are downloadable and many can be viewed through map services and ArcGIS.com. Climate Change is one of the change agents addressed in the assessment. Many of the climate projection maps cover the western U.S., not only the area of the Colorado Plateau. Here is a small sample of the maps available: Average Annual Temperature (1968-1999) from PRISM (Western US) Average Annual Temperature (2015-2030) Simulated by RegCM3 with ECHAM5 Projections as Boundary Conditions (Western US) Average Annual Total Precipitation...

This data set is distributed through the Conservation Biology Institute's Data Basin site: http://app.databasin.org/app/pages/datasetPage.jsp?id=5a1a66e950534fd095dee1a68a8c6f61 From the metadata: "This dataset shows the predicted change in average precipitation between historical (1961-1990) and future (2070-2099) time periods, simulated by the dynamic global vegetation model MC1 under the Hadley climate change projection and the anthropogenic emissions scenario A2. Change in precipitation (per ~ 8 km pixel) is depicted as a ratio of the average precipitation for 2070-2099 / the average for 1961-1990. Data values above 1 represent a projected increase in precipitation and values less than 1 represent a projected...

The Nature Conservancy's Climate Wizard is a user-friendly viewer and data portal that provides access to Maurer et al.'s 2007 downscaled climate data and PRISM climate data. The images here are examples of the type of information that can be found on this website. The images were downloaded from the custom application of the website (climatewizardcustom.org), which allows users to upload a shapefile and concentrate on an area of interest (in this case, the footprint of the SRLCC). The PDF images do not contain detailed numerical data, so they are best used for visual approximation or to view broad trends. For more detailed information, please see the Climate Wizard website or the attached file "Precip_image_data_ASCII_format.zip"....

From www.climatewizard.org: "Developed through collaboration between The Nature Conservancy, The University of Washington, and The University of Southern Mississippi, the Climate Wizard enables technical and non-technical audiences alike to easily and intuitively access leading climate change information and visualize the impacts anywhere on Earth. The first generation of this web-based program—which was recently launched at www.climatewizard.org—allows the user to choose a state or country and see both the climate change that has occurred to date and the climate change that is predicted to occur. Simply put, Climate Wizard can be used to assess how climate has changed over time and to project what future changes...
