This shapefile contains landscape factors representing human disturbances summarized to local and network catchments of river reaches for the Desert Fish Habitat Partnership. This dataset is the result of clipping the feature class 'NFHAP 2010 HCI Scores and Human Disturbance Data for the Conterminous United States linked to NHDPLUSV1.gdb' to the boundary of the Desert Fish Habitat Partnership. Landscape factors include land uses, population density, roads, dams, mines, and point-source pollution sites. The source datasets that were compiled and attributed to catchments were identified as being: (1) meaningful for assessing fish habitat; (2) consistent across the entire study area in the way that they were assembled;...

A GAP Analysis uses GIS layers provided by the GAP Analysis Program (species distribution models, stewardship data) to determine which areas within a species distribution have protected status and to identify possible conservation gaps. This GAP Analysis was conducted for Greater Sage-grouse within the boundary of the Southern Rockies LCC. About 7.6% of the Sage-grouse's total predicted distribution is within the SRLCC (based on GAP distribution models). There are four products in this ScienceBase item: an Excel spreadsheet with analysis data (see list below), a GIF image map of the SRLCC (displaying predicted sage-grouse distribution and areas with protected status), a map package containing the GIS layers used...

This layer package shows sites where hydrology data are collected for the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) within the Southern Rockies LCC. The sites include surface water sites, groundwater sites, springs sites and atmospheric sites. The locations were downloaded using the USGS Web Services Snapshot tool, an ArcGIS add-in tool that allows users to query the NWIS database and download subsets of hydrological data into geodatabases. Each of these gage locations has associated data in NWIS, accessible through the NWIS website or with the Snapshot tool. The layer's attribute table contains the NWIS inventory URL for each gage location. There is also an online map of NWIS gages. Citation for Snapshot:...
From USFWS service description: "This data service identifies, in general, the areas where final critical habitat exist for species that are endangered or threatened. Special protections and/or restrictions are possible in areas where federal funding, permits, licenses, authorizations or actions occur or are required. Critical habitat are areas considered essential for the conservation of a listed species. These areas provide notice to the public and land managers the importance of these areas to the conservation of the species." The data can be downloaded in a shapefile, viewed on the Fish and Wildlife Service's map viewer, or accessed through a web service. It's also possible to view the data through the ScienceBase...

The boundary of the Southern Rockies LCC. From metadata: Landscape conservation cooperatives (LCCs) are conservation-science partnerships between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and other federal agencies, states, tribes, NGOs, universities and stakeholders within a geographically defined area. They inform resource management decisions to address national-scale stressors-including habitat fragmentation, genetic isolation, spread of invasive species, and water scarcity-all of which are accelerated by climate change.

Downloadable GIS data showing 303(d) listed impaired waters within the boundary of the SRLCC (created by merging state data and clipping the merged shapefile to the footprint of the SRLCC). Data can also be accessed through web services (select access, then geospatial links). Link to EPA Metadata From Metadata Abstract: "The 303(d) Listed Impaired Waters program system provides impaired water data and impaired water features reflecting river segments, lakes, and estuaries designated under Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act. Each State will establish Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for these waters. Note the CWA Section 303(d) list of impaired waters does not represent waters that are impaired but have an...

The footprint of the SRLCC, showing boundaries of 12 digit Hydrologic Unit Codes (HUCs). Watersheds in the United States are organized by the USGS into divisions and subdivisions called hydrologic units and are assigned hydrologic unit codes. The first level divides the U.S. into 21 regions (the first 2 digits of a 12 digit code), the 2nd level is into 221 subregions (the first 4 digits) and so on, into basins (6 digits), subbasins (8 digits), watersheds (10 digits) and subwatersheds (12 digits). The three shapefiles here display the 2 unit, 8 unit and 12 unit HUCs. The shapefiles were downloaded from the Natural Resource Conservation Service's Data Gateway (http://datagateway.nrcs.usda.gov) and clipped to the...

Boundary for floristic regions used for the conservation assessment of Greater Sage-grouse and sagebrush habitat conducted by the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. The floristic provinces were digitized from a figure from Miller, R. F., and L. Eddleman. 2001. Spatial and temporal changes of sage-grouse habitat in the sagebrush biome. Oregon State University, Agricultural Experiment Station. Technical Bulletin 151. This coverage defines the floristic context in which a range-wide conservation assessment of the Greater Sage-grouse and sagebrush habitats was conducted. Defining the major floristic properties of areas occupied by the historical distribution of sage grouse permitted the comparison...
These two shapefiles, from Colorado State University's Natural Heritage Program, provide information on priority conservation areas in Colorado. The first shows Potential Conservation Areas and the second shows a Network of Conservation Areas. The layers can be downloaded from http://www.cnhp.colostate.edu/download/gis.asp and viewed at www.landscope.org. Link to metadata for Potential Conservation Areas. This data set consists of federally owned land polygon features of the United States. The data set was created by extracting federal land polygon features from the individual 1:2,000,000-scale State boundary Digital Line Graph (DLG) files produced by the U.S. Geological Survey. These files were then appended into a single coverage. This is a revised version of the June 1998 data set. There may be private inholdings within the boundaries of Federal Lands in this data set. These data are intended for geographic display and analysis at the national level, and for large regional areas. The data should be displayed and analyzed at scales appropriate for 1:2,000,000-scale data. No responsibility is assumed by the U.S....

This data set represents the extent, approximate location and type of wetlands and deepwater habitats in the United States and its Trust Territories. These data delineate the areal extent of wetlands and surface waters as defined by Cowardin et al. (1979). Certain wetland habitats may be excluded because of the limitations of aerial imagery as the primary data source used to detect wetlands. These habitats include seagrasses or submerged aquatic vegetation that are found in the intertidal and subtidal zones of estuaries and near shore coastal waters. Some deepwater reef communities (coral or tuberficid worm reefs) have also been excluded from the inventory. These habitats, because of their depth, go undetected by...
Global circulation models (GCM) of future climates predict extreme change for the Southwestern United States (Solomon and others, 2007; Diffenbaugh and others, 2008). Temperatures are projected to increase 3.5–4°C within the next 60–90 years while precipitation is projected to decline by 5–20 percent (Seager and others, 2007). The coalescing effect of these changes in temperature and precipitation in this already arid region will profoundly affect the distributions and viability of plant and animal populations. Region-wide ecosystem processes and system dynamics will be especially sensitive to relatively small shifts in climate in the arid and semi-arid environments (Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, 2005). Managers...

The National Conservation Easement Database (NCED), clipped to the boundary of the Southern Rockies LCC. Some of the private easement data in the NCED is not listed in the USGS Protected Area Database (PAD-US), so the two data sets can be used in combination. The entire dataset is available for download from the NCED website. The website's data can also be queried and viewed through an online map viewer. From metadata: the National Conservation Easement Database (NCED) is a collaborative venture to compile easement records (both spatial and tabular) from land trusts and public agencies throughout the United States in a single, up-to-date, sustainable, GIS compatible, online source. The goal of the NCED is to provide...
