Grover Heinrichs was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1925. As a child, he moved with his family through the western United States, the Philippines and South Africa. He was the Vice President of Heinrichs GEOEXploration, located in Tucson, Arizona, where his brother, Walter Heinrichs, Jr., was President. During his career as a geologist, he also worked or consulted for a number of other companies including the USGS, Phelps Dodge, United Technologies and Essex International. He was the Vice President of La Paz Mining Inc. from 1984 until the early '90s. Edwin Noel Pennebaker received a B.S. in economic geology from University of California in 1924 and later went on to graduate studies. From the mid 1920s until the mid 1980s, he worked mainly as a consulting geologist for numerous companies around the globe. During the period 1935 to 1976, he consulted for a number of companies in Arizona. After 1985, he was Director Emeritus of Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation, Wallace, ID. This collection of economic geologic reports focuses strictly on Arizona.

Walter Heinrichs, Jr. was a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines with a major in geophysics in 1940. His early career was spent in Oklahoma and Texas. He was the co-discoverer of the Pima Mine in southern Arizona using geophysical techniques and went on to co-found the Heinrichs GEOEXploration Company in Tucson in 1958. The company was active until 2011. Walter was active in several professional geological organizations and received numerous awards for his contributions to the profession. This collection consists of rock chips in vials and plastic bags. The material is stored in vials and was collected mostly from water wells, and has been washed. Material stored in plastic bags, mostly from oil and gas wells, is not washed and is stored in boxes. The collection includes cuttings from 5078 water wells, and 635 oil and gas wells.

A. F. Budge Mining Ltd. Mining collection. A. F. Budge Mining Ltd., a British company owned by Tony Budge, controlled properties across several western U. S. states and northern Mexico. The company was active in Arizona during the 1980s and into the early 1990s. The collection consists of economic geologic information including maps, logs, reports and records. A few properties make up most of the collection: Vulture, United Verde Extension and Korn Kob.

This collection consists of economic geologic information on mining properties and prospects across Arizona and surrounding states. Richard Mieritz was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin before moving to Arizona. He worked at the Silver Bell for ASARCO during the late 1940s. He was later a consultant based out of Phoenix. Records show he was a registered engineer and geologist in Arizona from the 1950s until his death in 1995.

James Sell was a native of Arizona, born in Casa Grande in 1930. He served the U.S. Army as a radio operator in the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal and two Bronze Star Medals. On his return, he studied at the Colorado School of Mines and graduated in 1955. He earned his master's degree from the University of Arizona. He was the Southwest Exploration Manager for ASARCO and retired after 32 years. Sell was a member of the Arizona Geological Society and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration. Larry Kersey was Vice President of Alanco, Ltd., a mineral resource company mostly active during the 1980s and early 1990s. This collection consists of economic geologic information on several properties across Arizona. Many of the properties were in Mohave and Cochise counties. The collection contains geologic reports, maps, assays, field notes and related materials.

The Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS) is committed to making its geologic products freely available online to a variety of consumers of geologic information and data. To this end, AZGS proposed two projects under the 2021-2022 National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP) to increase the availability of its data. First, AZGS converted 32 of its older geologic maps that existed only as PDF scans into modern digital geodatabases. Each of these preserved maps was then archived and re-published at the National Digital Catalog, University of Arizona Campus Repository, Arizona Geological Survey Repository, and National Geologic Map Database. This collection of photos shows the Richinbar mine in the 1930s and a revisit to the mine in 1957 by the Wheeler family. Carlton Wheeler graduated from the University of Oklahoma after WWI and worked as a geologist in Texas before moving his family to Arizona and working for the Richinbar mine. Most of the photos were taken in 1933, 1934, and 1935. The Richinbar mine stopped operations in 1937. This collection has not yet been cataloged. Phillip Anderson conducted a comprehensive study of the Proterozoic geology, tectonics, and mineral deposits of the Southwest, focused on Arizona. He started his studies upon arrival at the University of Arizona in the early 1970s, beginning a PhD in the Department of Geosciences. As part of this expansive project, Phil visited and studied nearly every exposure of Proterozoic rocks in Arizona. These studies ranged from detailed quadrangle-scale mapping of large areas to regional reconnaissance accompanied by air-photo interpretation. Mason Coggin was director of Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources during the mid 1990s. These images were either shot by or collected by him. The newest photo showing a date is from 1953, but some photos were clearly taken as late as the 1970s or 1980s. Perhaps better than any other photo collection from ADMMR, this collection focuses on miners, mines, machinery and buildings. There are several images of the Bisbee and Ajo areas. The Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources (ADMMR) operated from 1940 to 2011 to promote the development of Arizona's mineral resources through technical and educational processes. This collection consists of various reports, maps, records and related materials acquired by ADMMR regarding mining properties in Arizona. Roland Mulchay was the chief geologist for the Anaconda mining company at Cananea. He either examined or received submittals and professional reports on many properties located in the southwestern U.S., northern Mexico and throughout the world. He was employed by Anaconda Mining Company and subsidiaries 1925 –1966. He retired as Assistant Chief Geologist February 1966. He then worked as a consulting geologist on various projects in United States, Mexico and South America. The collected files principally cover Arizona, Utah and Mexico.

In the 1930’s the Reconstruction Finance Corporation was created by the Federal Government to finance the development and operation of gold, silver and tin mines. The funds were to come from the “Silver Purchase Act” which purchased silver from the miners for 71 cents per ounce and produced coins valued at $1.29. In previous years the loans were only available to gold, silver and tin mines but the law was amended in 1941 making the funds available to operators of all metal mines. The RFC contacted the Department asking it to provide an analysis and review of applications from Arizona for preliminary development loans. The Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources operated from 1940 to 2011 to promote the development of Arizona's mineral resources through technical and educational processes. This collection mainly consists of large maps that were flat or rolled upon arrival at ADMMR. Maps that were interfiled in reports remain with their respective collections.
