Collection of reports containing from one to up to several hundred pages and water well files related to the MX Missile Project of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The collection is in 2 4-drawer filing cabinets. The geologic/hydrologic reports are kept at the NBMG, and some years ago, the cultural reports were sent to the Nevada Historical Society. The "Amount" is based on the number of reports and files listed on a typed index that may need revision. MX Files The area covered by the project is part of eastern and central Nevada. The collection is indexed by a typed list of reports and files in a binder, which needs to be reviewed against what is in the collection. The collection may be considered to become part...

Website of various Nevada geothermal resource information, which contains 227 geothermal site descriptions and related digital maps, photographs, and information sources. Geothermal Resources of Nevada Two NBMG geologists spend part of their time keeping up this database. Aside from the list of 227 geothermal sites which are linked to site descriptions and maps, the website also contains an interactive map based on NBMG Map 141, "Nevada Geothermal Resources," which shows locations of all significant occurrences of geothermal water in Nevada of which more than 300 are linked to site descriptions and/or databases accessed by mouse clicks; links to the files used to create the interactive map; a list linked to 82 large-scale...
Well logs converted from scanned paper PDF to .las and tabular datasets via digitization software. 366 digital logs spanning sites of geothermal interest in northern Nevada: Hot Spring Mountains, Hot Sulphur Springs, San Emidio Desert, Rye Patch/Colado, Grass Valley, and Bog Hot Valley.
Nevada is producing 3 critical minerals (lithium, barite, and magnesium), has known resources in 6 other critical minerals (tungsten, fluorspar, beryllium, uranium, vanadium and gallium), is a past producer of at least 5 critical minerals (antimony, fluorspar, tungsten, cobalt and platinum group elements), and can potentially produce as by-products 3 critical minerals (arsenic, bismuth, rhenium). Moreover, there has been recent exploration for rare earth elements, manganese, vanadium, and graphite. Data will entered by students under the supervision of David Davis and John Muntean. Sources for the data will include NBMG publications and other publically available data, such as information from companies on the internet....

The media is paper, linen, vellum, mylar, cardboard, microfilm and fiche, and photographic paper. This database is the electronic index of the entire collection. Most of the items were scanned as TIFs and converted to PDFs for internet availability. Access is through the NBMG main website at http://www.nbmg.unr.edu, followed by clicking on 1). "Minerals & Energy", 2). "Mining", and 3). "Nevada Mining...
The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) Sample Collection Database (also known as CORECUT) is the index of rock samples held by the NBMG. The database contains about 12,000 entries of which over 11,000 entries have locations in longitude and latitude (the on-line database includes only these). Access is through the NBMG main website at http://www.nbmg.unr.edu, followed by clicking on 1). "Collections", and 2). "Geologic Specimen and Geochemical Database". In 2019, NBMG began a project to photograph and scan thin sections under standard and cross polarized light. When applicable, these are now noted in the metadata records. All of the cores and cuttings are now also available in a new map web application http://nbmg.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=2b2fc33d346...

Paper files for 1061 entries for oil and gas well files whether drilled or not. The files are filed by: 1) dry hole or producer; 2) county; 3) operator; 4) well; 5) well file or log file. The files are copies of documents required to be turned in to the Nevada Division of Minerals, which is the main state regulatory agency for petroleum exploration. Also, the NBMG has some many files that predate 1954 when the state took over permitting. The files contain permits, sundry notices, logs, geology reports, scout cards, drill stem tests, and other items. Many of the drilled wells have cuttings that are described as a separate collection. About 670 files contain some kind of log, the electric logs of which are filed in...
As part of the 2020 NGGDPP effort, NBMG converted two maps into USGS GeMS (Faulds et al., 2012; Rhodes et al., 2011). The geologic map data migrated into the GeMS format are digital-born GIS maps published by NBMG. These geologic maps are particularly useful for geothermal research and assist in the understanding and development of geothermal systems in Nevada. The maps were selected for migration based on quality of mapping, level of detail, and geothermal focus.
Several series of publications have been issued by Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology: Bulletins, Reports, Maps, Urban Maps, Special Publications, Open-File Reports, Databases, and Newsletters. The Bulletin series incorporated several series of publications including University of Nevada Bulletins written by staff members of the Mackay School of Mines before the Nevada Bureau of Mines was established in 1929. Reports and Maps (first issued in 1961 and 1962) were originally issued as Nevada Bureau of Mines Reports and Maps until 1971 when the Bureau was renamed the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology. The Urban Map series was added in 1971 to provide geological, ecological, and other environmental coverage at a scale...
