This collection of well logs from Arkansas has not yet been inventoried and cataloged. Please contact the Arkansas Geological Survey to inquire about this collection.
The Arkansas Geological Survey (AGS) is the curator for the Norman F. Williams Well Sample Library and maintains well cuttings and core samples as a permanent record of rock strata that have been penetrated by wells drilled in Arkansas. Driller logs housed at the Survey contain the down hole information about the geology in the state. Each log gives the depth in feet along with the discription of material being drilled and the depth it accurs. The logs cover wells drilled in the early 1900’s to 1950’s and dispersed throughout the state giving statewide subsurface information.

The multi-page mineral survey reports contain historical, hand-written information on mineral commodities, surrounding geology, lithologic maps, stratigraphic columns, cross sections, and cultural features listed for a single county, township, and range, with more detailed information for each section. These historical documents show the in-depth analyses of the state’s natural resources during the time of heightened interest in mineral exploration throughout the country. These documents provide valuable information for routine mineralogical and lithological inquiries.

Summary The documents in this collection, Open File Reports (OFR), represent information the Arkansas Geological Survey (AGS) has amassed from many past and present staff and other geoscientists friendly to the AGS. Friends who contributed include past and present federal, state, and local government personnel, academia, and private industry. The OFR collection consists of unpublished paper files which includes reports, correspondence, mineral and rock data, geochemical analyses and testing, county data, regional data, maps, charts, cross sections, stratigraphic data, paleontological data, and fossil fuels data. An Excel database was created to help searches by capturing the individual file title, abstract, data...
The Arkansas Geological Survey (AGS) has developed a project plan that includes the scanning of rare books of various ages, some dating back to 1858. The rare book collection includes annual reports for the Arkansas Geological Survey, dating back to its inception in 1857. These one of a kind historical representations provide valuable information about the agency and its history that can not be found anywhere else. These documents are a matter of public record, currently available on a very limited basis due to their fragile nature.
