Collection contains original copies of geophysical well logs and records from 14210 wells drilled for uranium exploration and evaluation in New Mexico. Most of these are one-of-a-kind and not available elswhere. The collection has been 90% catalogged. A listing is available upon request.

General Paleontological samples, most are not cataloged. Consists of approximately 150,000 samples in total, most arranged by time period: Cambrian (1500), Ordovician (15,000), Silurian (17,000), Devonian (10,000), Mississippian (15,000), Pennsylvanian (77,000), and Tertiary/Cretaceous (100). Approximately 10,500 specimens are arranged by taxonomic group including brachiopods (7500), cephalopods (1000), and trilobites (2000).

These reports describe in detail the history of individual oil & gas wells, including daily drilling activity, information on cores, showss amd drill-stem tests, and completion and production information. Well history reports - multiple page reports detailing drilling, testing, and completion work on oil & gas wells. This information should be scanned into a digital format that contains searchable data fields/metadata.

This collection contains coalbed methane desorption data on 31 coalbed methane test wells drilled in new Mexico. There are 589 pages of information. We would like to prepare a digital catalog of this infomartion and link that catalog to scanned images of the reports in order to increase/maximize utility.

This collection includes paper originals and photocopies of reports beginning in 1936, and PDF scans of these reports, up to 1995. In more recent years, this information is available from the Wisconsin DNR via a computer database. Materials are arranged by county and PLSS locations. There are 326,385 well construction reports in this collection.

Continuous bedrock core from about 50 sites across CT. Stored in 1100 boxes. This collection has been rescued three times since its formation in the late 1980's. Formerly administrative responsibility was shared between the University of Connecticut Dept. of Geology and Geophysics (now disbanded) and the Dept. of Environmental Protection, Geological and Natural History Survey. The State Survey now houses the collection and is the sole administrator.

Collection includes rare maps stored in Louisiana Geological Survey staff offices and laboratories.

This collection consists of cataloged metadata for gravity base stations in Arizona, and includes data from National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
thumbnail
This collection includes geochronology data for samples collected in Arizona. The database includes data for samples collected for isotopic age analyses. Each sample may have one or more associated analyses.

This collection contains an estimated 3300 petroleum source rock and thermal maturity analyses on an estimated 175 wells and outcrop sections in New Mexico. Most data are in digital or scanned format in various topical reports. Others are in paper format and not yet electronically available. A comprehensive Access database is available on CD-ROM for source rock analyses acquired prior to 1998.

This collection is comprised of records of coal exploration drill holes provided to KGS by both private companies and public agencies. It includes paper documents of the core or cutting descriptions, scanned images of the documents, and an online database of the subsurface data. Approximately 60% of the records are publically accessible.

To date, the collection consists of about 4,200 unprocessed, surficial sediment (grab) samples collected by Maryland Geological Survey (MGS) from the bottom of the Maryland Chesapeake Bay and its major subestuaries between 1976-1984, as part of the Chesapeake Bay Earth Science Study (CBESS), a multidisciplinary research effort authorized by Maryland and Virginia through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). MGS collected samples according to two sampling schemes, mid-bay and nearshore, and then processed them to develop a baseline inventory of certain physical and geochemical characteristics of bay bottom sediments, in particular, water content, grain size composition, and carbon and sulfur content. Since...

This dataset is a collection of unpublished geologic field maps and transfer maps that represent over 100 years of field data collected by Virginia geological survey staff. These field records include hand-drawn notes, strike and dip, contacts, economic, structure and paleo information. Some maps have been scanned and are available digitally. Most maps are located in our Charlottesville, Va offices in paper format. All are unique, one-of-a-kind documents.

Thin sections prepared primarily in the course of research conducted by geologists of the Wisconsin Geological Survey. There appears to be a set of USGS-related thin sections, as well, but these are not evaluated at this time. Thin sections are tied to field notebooks, which are being reviewed as time allows. Certain physical collections have been located, but their geographic location is uncertain until the field notebooks can be tied to the actual thin section. We must tie physical materials to field notebooks in order to develop geographic coordinates for specific thin sections. Work to date has identified locations of physical items and is currently focused on assessing the notebooks themselves. There are 1,700...

Cores represent over 2,000 individual core sites drilled across the State of Wisconsin; stored in over 56,000 (mainly cardboard) boxes; representing approximately 650,000 linear feet of the subsurface. The Flambeau Core subcollection is approximately 3 percent of the collection of rock cores from Wisconsin. Documentation for the Wisconsin core collection is routinely updated, as information becomes available.

Records in this collection are classified into one of four categories that best characterizes the data contained within the borehole record. The classifications are: Geotechnical: Boreholes and pits created with the intent to gain a detailed understanding of the subsurface lithology and soil or rock properties therein. These records have additional data beyond lithologic descriptions including penetrometer resistance, shear and strength tests, density measurements, etc. Lithologic borings: Boreholes are drill solely for the purpose of identifying subsurface lithology. Material testing techniques were not used (or the results are not provided) to allow for a more detailed understanding of subsurface material properties....

The sinkhole locations shown on these maps have been digitized and are available as a draft ESRI shapefile. DGMR plans to complete a quality control analysis and modifications of the digital representation of these locations prior to release to the public.
