This data set contains mean annual recharge due to infiltration of irrigation water, in millimeters and inches, within the upper Umatilla River Basin, Oregon for years 1985-2007. These data were originally generated for the Columbia Plateau model of Ely and others (2014) using methods described in Bauer and Vaccaro, 1990 and Kahle and others, 2011. These data were modified as described in the Processing Steps. Bauer, H.H., and Vaccaro, J.J., 1990, Estimates of ground-water recharge to the Columbia Plateau Regional Aquifer System, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, for predevelopment and current land-use conditions: U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources Investigations Report 88–4108, 37 p. This polygon shapefile is the delineation of the upper Umatilla River study area boundary. It is split into two regions, the Blue Mountains and the Lowland Plains, as described in the processing steps. These data were used to analyze precipitation and recharge in the study area as a whole and in the two regions.

This polygon shapefile includes selected delineated subbasins (watersheds) of streams within the upper Umatilla River Basin, Oregon. These subbasins, referred to by the name of their stream gages, are 1.) Umatilla River above Meacham Creek, near Gibbon, Oregon, 2.) Meacham Creek at Gibbon, Oregon, 3.) Isqu'ulktpe Creek near Gibbon, Oregon, 4.) Moonshine Creek near Mission, Oregon, 5.) Cottonwood Creek near Mission, Oregon, 6.) McKay Creek near Pilot Rock, Oregon, 7.) Wildhorse Creek at Pendleton, Oregon, and 8.) Patawa Creek at West Boundary near Pendleton, Oregon. These data were used to analyze precipitation and groundwater recharge in each subbasin.

This data set contains mean annual recharge due to infiltration of precipitation, in inches (x 1000), within the upper Umatilla River Basin, Oregon, for calendar years 1981 - 2010. Recharge due to infiltration of precipitation is estimated using a regression method developed by Bauer and Vaccaro (1990) that relates annual recharge to annual precipitation. Gridded mean annual precipitation for years 1981 - 2010 was provided by the Oregon State University PRISM Climate Group.
