In order to allow for a comparison across years we visually digitized landcover of Poplar Island from a single image per year at a 1:1000 spatial extent with a minimum mapping unit of 300 square meters (no minimum dimensions aside from area). Images used to assign landcover were provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and were captured between July and October of their respective years. All images were 1 foot resolution.

This data release links benthic macroinvertebrate sites to both the NHDPlus Version 2 and NHDPlus High Resolution Region 02 networks, hereafter referred to as V2 and HR, using the hydrolink methodology. Linked benthic macroinvertebrate sites are those included in the Chesapeake Bay Basin-wide Index of Biotic Integrity (Chessie BIBI) developed by the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin (ICPRB) and available from the Chesapeake Bay Program (https://datahub.chesapeakebay.net/LivingResources). The data set contains a unique sample identifier created by ICPRB, survey program, coordinates of sample, linked V2 COMID and HR Permanent Identifier, and information regarding uncertainty in the attribution. We strongly...

The rusty-patched bumble bee (Bombus affinis) is a listed species under the Endangered Species Act of the United States. While understood to be a highly generalist forager, little is known on the role that limited floral resources or shifting floral community composition could have played in B. affinis decline. Determining which floral species provide suitable B. affinis forage could assist conservation efforts where B. affinis persists, identify floral species for restoration efforts, or highlight regions to search for cryptic populations.

Water levels in meters from four wells in Moneystump marsh at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, MD. Two wells are located in the upland forest; one well is located in the marsh-forest transition zone (ecotone); and one well is located in the marsh. Water depth of the adjacent creek is reported in meters. Data covers the time span from November 11 2016 - November 11 2017. Pressure transducer data from the wells corrected to water level using barometric pressure loggers located in 3 locations throughout the experiment. Water levels are in units of meters referenced to vertical datum NAVD88. Raw pressure data is in units of kilopascals (kPa). Pressure transducer locations and elevation data from GNSS and digital...

The USGS Water Mission Area (WMA) - Ecosystems Mission Area (EMA) EcoDrought project is comprised of interdisciplinary teams in five pilot regions across the country. The over-arching project goal is to measure streamflow in headwater streams and to relate flow variation to stream fish population dynamics. In the northeast, the New England Water Science Center (NewEngWSC) partnered with the fish ecology group at the S.O. Conte Anadromous Fish Research Lab (Conte), a part of the EMA’s Eastern Ecological Science Center. The Conte fish ecology team has been collecting ecological and stream water temperature data in the West Brook watershed located in Whately, Massachusetts, since 1997, where they developed novel methods...

This Data Release contains stream temperature observations for 28 sites in the Antietam Creek Watershed (Maryland) during summer 2021. Data were collected using Onset ProV2 temperature gages within perforated PVC cases attached to stream substrates with rebar. Temperature gages were deployed and retrieved by volunteers with the Antietam-Conococheague Watershed Alliance. Temperature records are provided for 20-minute increments between June 1 and August 31, 2021 (92 days, 6625 observations per site, and a total of 185,500 observations in the dataset). Site location coordinates are provided.

These data, which support a paired USGS publication, document the movement and infection status of mallards captured, marked, and tested at a wintering site in Tennessee. Data document differences in movement ecology between mallards infected and not infected with HPAI H5N1.

This Data Release includes records of stream temperature during summer months of 2019 (10 sites) and records of Blue Ridge sculpin (Cottus caeruleomentum) weight for fish held in experimental enclosures for 45 days during the temperature sampling period (5 sites).

These data describe the affects of elastic leg-loop harnesses on the reproductive success and behavior of adult Common Terns and the growth and behavior of juvenile Common Terns. These data support a USGS authored manuscript.

Here we provide data used to report on changes in tidal marsh elevation in relation to our network of 387 fixed benchmarks in tidal marshes on four continents measured for an average of 10 years. During this period RSLR at these marshes reached on average 6.6 mm yr-1, compared to 0.34 mm yr-1 over the past millennia. While the rate of sediment accretion corresponded to RSLR, the loss of elevation to shallow subsidence increased in proportion to the accretion rate. This caused a deficit between elevation gain and RSLR which increased consistently with the rate of RSLR regardless of position within the tidal frame, suggesting that long-term in situ tidal marsh survival is unlikely. While higher tidal range (>3m) conferred...

This Data Release provides brook trout abundance records for pool habitats within 2 streams in Shenandoah National Park (Staunton River and Paine Run). The data were collected with 3-pass backpack electrofishing conducted during baseflow conditions between 2012-2021. This dataset enables spatial analysis of brook trout population responses to drought conditions.

These data, which support a paired USGS publication, describe the efficacy of several management practices for reducing the presence of herring gulls in the nesting colonies of Common Terns. This data was collected on Poplar Island, located in the Chesapeake Bay portion of Maryland.

Data are fish species occurrences in surveys made by backpack electrofishing and seining in shoal habitats in the Etowah River downstream from Allatoona Dam (n=10 surveys in 2010 and n=5 surveys in 2016; 20 taxa total) and in the Coosawattee River downstream from Carters Dam and re-regulation dam (n=11 surveys in 2010; 32 taxa total), Georgia, USA. Data for the Etowah River include counts of individuals for each species captured; data for the Coosawattee River are observed or not observed for each species in the data set.

This data release provides the predicted proportion of influenza-positive birds testing positive for H5 and H7 subtypes of IAV for each species at monthly intervals for each county centroid in the continental United States. This data supports a paired USGS publication.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Mission Area (WMA) - Ecosystems Mission Area (EMA) EcoDrought project is comprised of interdisciplinary teams in five pilot regions across the country. The over-arching project goal is to measure streamflow in headwater streams and to relate flow variation to stream fish population dynamics. For the catchments located in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia, the Virginia/West Virginia Science Center and the New England Water Science Center (NewEngWSC) partnered with the fish ecology group at Leetown Science Center, a part of the EMA’s Eastern Ecological Science Center, in order to establish gaging stations in headwater streams with ongoing ecological data collection and modeling...

This data release links fish survey data from a suite of programs in the Chesapeake Bay watershed as well the benthic macroinvertebrate sites included in the Chesapeake Bay Basin-wide Index of Biotic Integrity (Chessie BIBI) developed by the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin (ICPRB) and available from the Chesapeake Bay Program (https://datahub.chesapeakebay.net/LivingResources). The data set contains site name, survey program, coordinates of sample, and ancillary information such as sample date and site location information where available. It also includes the NHDPlus V2.1 unique identifier, COMID, as well as a confidence classification category for each of these assignments based on a set of pre-determined...
