These rasters represent estimated potential evapotranspiration (mm). Data were generated by using the Hamon equation and air temperature projections from the ECHAM5 model under the A1B emissions scenario.
This collection consists of rock samples associated with the research of USGS scientist Alfred Miesch. Miesch was an early contributor to USGS geochemistry research and many of these samples are associated with his research. In 1953 Dr. Miesch began a 33-year career with the Survey. His work in Grand Junction, CO involved research on the distribution of minor elements in association with uranium on the Colorado Plateau. He moved to Denver in 1959 where he continued his work on element distributions in rocks, soils, and plants, ultimately becoming Chief of the Branch of Geochemical Census, which he later renamed Branch of Regional Geochemistry. In this capacity he began a working relationship with scientists in the...

This data set represents an updated Ecological Subsection Map for Northern Alaska. This 2012 revision focused on completing the incompletely mapped portion of the southern NPRA, improving mapping of glacial and outwash deposits within the Brooks Foothills, and improving consistency with existing surficial and bedrock geology maps in northern Alaska. The revisions resulted in 525 ecological subsections, nested within 55 ecosections and 12 ecoregions covering 411,781 km2. Attributes for the polygons include information on physiography, generalized geology, lithology, and referenced information sources. Description of attributes is provided in the map documentation report. The dataset can be downloaded from catalog.northslope.org.
The Integrated Monitoring in Bird Conservation Regions (IMBCR) program is one of the largest breeding bird monitoring programs in North America. The program was developed in 2007 to address the need for a collaborative avian monitoring program that produces scientifically defensible estimates of bird distribution and abundance across various spatial scales. The program’s objectives were established following guidelines published by the North American Bird Conservation Initiative’s (NABCI) Monitoring Subcommittee for improving avian monitoring in North America. NABCI outlined four recommendations: (1) fully integrate monitoring into bird management and conservation practices; (2) coordinate monitoring programs among...
These maps show baseline (1961-1990) average total precipitation and projected change in precipitation for the decades spanning 2010-2039, 2040-2069, and 2070-2099. Precipitation is expressed in both millimeters (mm) and inches (in); projected change in precipitation is expressed as percent of baseline. Baseline results for 1961-1990 are derived from Climate Research Unit (CRU) TS 3.1.01 data and maps for future time periods are based on a composite of projections from five GCMs (CCSM4, GFDL-CM3, GISS-E2-R, IPSL-CM5A-LR, and MRI-CGCM3) under the AR5-RCP 8.5. Data courtesy of Scenarios Network for Alaska and Arctic Planning.

The Denver fossil algae database were gathered from the inception of Denver Region in 1953 by Richard Rezak. His specialty was algae, carbonate platforms, and off-shore modern reefs. He developed a very useful litho-stratigraphic tool while studying Proterozoic algae and stromatolites in Glacier National Park. This lead to his studies of modern analogs in the Caribbean and South Seas. This collection contains 1001 fossil localities. This collection was originally created and maintained by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and as of March 2020 has been transferred to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.

This collection includes 4,525 rock thin sections archived by the DMME Virginia Division of Geology and Mineral Resources. The thin sections represent a wide range of rock types in Virginia and are available for petrographic studies. Many, but not all of these thin sections are associated with rock specimens inventoried in the Rock Repository, identified by the tag "R-#####". Other thin sections represent rock specimens from earlier studies for which documentation may exist, yet the original rock sample may not be available. The location coordinates for the thin sections are approximate, given by the 7.5-minute quadrangle centroid. Work continues on this collection to better document missing information.

This dataset includes 800m resolution long-term average estimates of evapotranspiration (ET) over the time period from 2000-2013 and annual estimates for the individual years. These estimates were developed with a new empirical regression for long-term water balance ET data at 679 gaged watersheds as a function of land cover (NLCD), precipitation (PRISM), and maximum, minimum, and mean daily temperature (PRISM). A separate map is also included of evapotranspiration estimated over open-water areas from the empirical Meyer 1944 mass transfer equation, as a function of wind speed (gridMET data set, www.climateengine.org), temperature (PRISM), and dewpoint temperature data (PRISM). The annual and long-term average evapotranspiration...

The citizen science pilot began in April of 2023 and ends in November of 2023. Based on the response and number of specimens received the collection efforts may continue into 2024. The Lepidoptera Research Collection (LRC) will be made available to all scientists within the USGS to conduct research. States included in the pilot study (Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, and Alabama) were selected based on at least one of three factors: 1) locality relative to the migration pathway of the Monarch butterfly, 2) presence of confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs), or 3) locality relative to the Corn Belt. The Environmental Organic Chemistry (EOC) unit, located at the Kansas Water Science Center, will specifically...

Final report detailing the results of the climate change vulnerability assessment conducted by the Wildlife Conservation Society. The specific goals of this assessment were to: provide a climate change vulnerability ranking for selected Arctic Alaskan breeding bird species; evaluate the relative contribution of specific sensitivity and exposure factors to individual species rankings; consider how this assessment may be integrated with other approaches; and appraise the effectiveness of the NatureServe Climate Change Vulnerability Index (CCVI) tool.
The daily boat tracks of the 1997-2001 summer skiff-based double-sampling surveys were recorded to an onboard computer using the custom survey software RECORD (John I. Hodges, FWS-MBM-Alaska, retired). The tracks were recorded by capturing the skiff’s location from a GPS every five seconds as long as the software was running. The software was started at some time between the boat’s engine start and the start of the survey, and was shut down at some time between the end of the survey and engine shut-down. The tracks may thus include the boat’s travel to and from the home base. Note that the following boat tracks are missing: all 1997 tracks; one track on 08/12/1998; one track on 08/08/2001; one track on 08/09/2001.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) GLRI effort is being coordinated and managed by the USGS Midwest Region in accordance with the USGS science strategy - one that is driven by cross-disciplinary integrative science and conducted in collaboration with partners to provide resource managers with the information and decision-making tools they need to help restore the Great Lakes.
Since 2002, the Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center’s Samples Repository has been supporting research by providing secure storage for geological, biological, and geochemical samples; maintaining organization and an active inventory of these sample collections; as well as by providing access to these collections for study and reuse. This collections inventory has been compiled, organized, and released online to provide researchers and the general public with a means to discover and request scientific sample material preserved and maintained by the Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center Samples Repository. Updates will be made to the inventory as the collections grow, and version history is available...
