Wetland restoration efforts conducted by the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in Louisiana rely on monitoring efforts to determine the efficacy of these efforts. The Coastwide Reference Monitoring System (CRMS) was developed to assist in a multiple-reference approach that uses aspects of hydrogeomorphic functional assessments and probabilistic sampling for monitoring. The CRMS program includes a suite of approximately 398 sites that encompass the range of hydrological and ecological conditions for each stratum. As part of CRMS, land and water classifications are created from Digital Orthophoto Quarter Quadrangles (DOQQs) approximately every three years at all CRMS sites. A DOQQ...

This data release contains environmental tracer model inputs, outputs, and model results. Dataset includes environmental tracer concentrations, simulated recharge conditions (water temperature, excess air), and estimated groundwater residence times. This dataset supports an integrated hydrologic investigation of groundwater recharge processes and groundwater flow in the Wet Mountain Valley alluvial aquifer, Custer and Fremont Counties, Colorado. Data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Upper Arkansas Water Conservancy District.
This script applies topic modeling to analyze literature trends of climate impacts to inland fish based on the papers within the Fish and Climate Change Database (FiCli, DOI: 10.5066/P9973SMC). Sections 1-8 loaded the .bib file with all of the papers in the database and cleaned the text. This included combining the title/abstract/keywords, removing non-informative words, stemming words, removing punctuation, and forming phrases (ie. climate change to climate_change). Sections 9-10 divided the papers into discrete topics by identifying the ideal number of topics and then using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) modeling and Gibbs sampling to assign topics to each paper. Sections 11-17 analyzed the topic modeling results...

This data record contains arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) operational taxonomic unit (OTU) occurrences in native prairie plant roots collected from remnant prairies and reconstruction of tallgrass prairies in Minnesota and Iowa, from April-December of 2022. The research aims to improve prairie reconstruction methods using AMF to improve prairie plant performance, species diversity, and resistance to invasive cool-season grasses. The data in this release includes 5 data sets. Three describe the AMF: 1) SampleID_and_OTU_readcount_tier2_data.csv provides the number of reads for each OTU identified in each sample; 2) OTU_assigned_taxonomy_FunGuild.csv includes a collated list of all the taxonomic guilds of the identified...

In 2019 a pilot study was conducted to determine the feasibility of using distance sampling to estimate density and population size of goose and eider nests on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta (YKD). Distance sampling (Buckland et al. 2001) is a common and well-understood method to estimate wildlife population size or density, especially for sparse and hard-to-detect populations. A main advantage of distance sampling is that it accounts for imperfect detection and gives precise estimates for a given level of effort relative to other methods. The objectives for the pilot project in 2019 was to (1) determine if distance sampling is feasible on the YKD, (2) determine what aspects of the field protocol need to be changed or...

This R code (eggs.R) inputs the quality controlled nest card data and (1) performs additional quality control on the egg code data, (2) reformat the eggs data into a tidy file of egg observations, (3) summarizes egg data into yearly means of initiation and hatch date based on incubation model, and (4) writes csv files for tidy egg data (eggs.csv) and yearly nest stats (yearstats.csv).

This data set provides the coordinates of plot centers, the area of each plot, plot type, and search history of the plot. Plots in this data set are linked through the combination of plot number and year provided in this file. Plot search history indicates if a plot was searched for nests. Plot shape and area has varied through time. After 1985, plot were selected by stratified random sampling, and after 1998 by simple random sampling from the area defined in ‘YKD Nest Plot Study Area Boundary.’ Plot shape has also varied but after 1998 was generally 1/4 by 1/2 mile.

Coalbed Methane wells are provided as a method for analysis and illustration of the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in an assessment unit or province. Each point represents a well location and is symbolized as producing oil, gas, both oil and gas, or other (dry or unknown) using the status code in the attribute table. Data were provided by the Wyoming State Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. See supplemental information section for limitations and assumptions about data.

Problem - Acidic precipitation has affected forested and aquatic ecosystems in New York, particularly in the Adirondack and Catskill regions. Acidification of surface waters and deleterious effects on fish and other biota have been well documented in both these regions. Despite reduced levels of acidity in atmospheric deposition over the past 20 years across New York and the northeastern United States, the most acid-sensitive streams and lakes have not yet begun to recover, and many show continued declines in acid-neutralizing capacity, an indicator acid-base status. Many studies have documented the effects of acid precipitation in New York, but thus far, there has been no comprehensive effort to synthesize and...
Background: Moreau Lake is located within Moreau Lake State Park, a 4,100 acre park divided by the Hudson River in northern Saratoga and southern Warren Counties of upstate New York. Moreau Lake has a surface area of 128 acres, a watershed of 469 acres, and 3.6 miles of shoreline. The lake has a “normal” mean depth of 32 feet and a maximum depth of 50 feet. An outlet control structure at the south end of the lake controls surface water outflow and protects adjacent property within the floodplain of Moreau Lake. The lake is considered a kettle lake and as such is surrounded by ice-contact sand and gravel (NY State Parks, 2006). Moreau Lake is a recreational water body used by the public for swimming, fishing,...

Background In order to help identify sources of high Enterococci concentrations identified by the Village of East Hampton and the Surfrider Foundation’s water-quality sampling upstream of Hook Pond, surface water and groundwater samples will be collected and analyzed for F+-specific coliphage, bacteroides, Enterococci and fecal coliform, and nitrogen isotopes. Potential sources of pathogens include waterfowl, failing onsite wastewater disposal systems, and stormwater runoff. F+-specific colipahge (Griffin and others, 2000) and bacteroides (Stoeckel, 2005) analyses are sensitive microbial source tracking methods that can discern human, mammal, and bird sources. Nitrogen isotopes are used in conjunction with concentrations...
These data were compiled to assess physiological responses of plants to short-term changes in streamflow, both increased and decreased. Objective(s) of our study were to determine the degree to which plants with different habitat preferences and functional strategies responded to short-term increases or decreases in the elevation of the water table. These data represent streamflow rates, temperature, and metrics of plant water status. These data were collected in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area from March 13-27, 2021, and collected by the U.S. Geological Survey-Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center. Streamflow data were obtained from the Lees Ferry gage station, and temperature data were obtained from...
Most of the Southeast mule deer herd winters along the Owyhee River in regions containing sagebrush communities and Columbia Basin grassland mixed with non-native annual grasslands. These mule deer either migrate west to summer ranges on Road Canyon and Gravel Ridges or east to the Owyhee Mountains along the Idaho border, with one mule deer migrating as far as Bald Mountain, 38.3 mi (61.6 km) into Idaho. Summer ranges feature shrubland, Columbia Basin grasslands, western juniper, and evergreen forests. In 2014, the Buzzard Complex fires burned 398,596 acres (161,306 ha), including Road Canyon, allowing medusahead and other non-native grasses to invade areas with originally low perennial plant abundance. Five mule...
