The Great Plains Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GPLCC, http://www.greatplainslcc.org/) is a partnership that provides applied science and decision support tools to assist natural resource managers conserve plants, fish and wildlife in the mid- and short-grass prairie of the southern Great Plains. These layers were produced as part of the WGA/LCC Riparian Mapping Project, which identified riparian location, condition, and climate adaptation potential, for the Pacific Northwest, USA. These layers identify potential riparian areas (i.e., near-stream valley bottoms; Theobald et al. 2013) that span large temperature gradients, have high canopy cover, low solar insolation, and low levels of human modification – characteristics expected to facilitate climate-induced species range shifts and provide micro-climatic refugia from warming. A species has been applied to each hectare based on the 6 species fields in the raw data and the percentage of each species within a given polygon. For example a hectare which is 75% Pine and 25% Cedar has a 25% chance of being flagged as ''Cedar'' and 75% chance of being flagged as ''Pine''. This dataset, termed "GAGES II", an acronym for Geospatial Attributes of Gages for Evaluating Streamflow, version II, provides geospatial data and classifications for 9,322 stream gages maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). It is an update to the original GAGES, which was published as a Data Paper on the journal Ecology's website (Falcone and others, 2010b) in 2010. Climate change is projected to alter the flow regimes of streams and rivers, with consequences for physical processes and aquatic organisms. To study these hydrologic changes, we have developed a database of flow metrics for streams in the western US (extent shown on the map to the left) under historical conditions and climate change scenarios. These are based on daily simulations of the Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC) macroscale hydrologic model produced by the University of Washington Climate Impacts Group. This set of 4 rasters shows precipitation as snow (mm) for Western North America under the B1 Emissions Scenario from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). One layer shows the historic period (1961 to 1990), and there are three layers of future climate projections representing the 2020s, the 2050s, and the 2080s. These future layers are ensemble averages across all 23 CMIP3 AOGCMs (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project 3 Atmosphere-Ocean General Circulation Models).
