Aquatic invasive species are often transported between water bodies on boats or boat trailers, thus they are considered one of the primary vectors for new introductions of invasive species to a water body. This data set contains geographic positioning system locational data for boater access points, use data (i.e. recreational, fishing), water quality measurements (e.g. calcium concentrations, pH), risk assessment data, and other physical attributes (i.e. size, elevation) where available within the Columbia and Snake Rivers and throughout the Columbia River Basin. Airborne Geophysical Surveys over the 2011 Mineral, Virginia, Earthquake Area The 2011 moment magnitude (Mw) 5.8 central Virginia earthquake was felt by millions of people and caused significant damage in the eastern United States. As part of efforts to better understand the faults and geologic features associated with the earthquake, the U.S. Geological Survey commissioned airborne geophysical surveys over the epicentral area. The data set includes delineation of sampling strata for the six study reaches of the UMRR Program’s LTRM element. Separate strata coverages exist for each of the three monitoring components (fish, vegetation, and water quality) to meet the differing sampling needs among components. Generally, the sampling strata consist of main channel, side channel, backwater, and impounded areas. The fish component further delineates a “shoreline” portion of the strata to be used for sampling gears deployed only along the shoreline. The data are raster in origin, with the center of each pixel representing the sampling location. Cell size is typically 50 meters, although several water quality strata are at 200 meter cell size.
This dataset is the largest global dataset to date of soil respiration, moisture, and temperature measurements, totaling >3800 observations representing 27 temperature manipulation studies, spanning nine biomes and nearly two decades of warming experiments. Data for this study were obtained from a combination of unpublished data and published literature values. We find that although warming increases soil respiration rates, there is limited evidence for a shifting respiration response with experimental warming. We also note a universal decline in the temperature sensitivity of respiration at soil temperatures >25°C. Fish occurrence data to support high-resolution distribution models and test various community and macroecological hypotheses have not been available at the national scale. We present IchthyMaps, a database of high-quality historical fish occurrences covering fishes of the conterminous United States. Designed on the principles of metacommunity ecology, IchthyMaps is a compilation of presence records from atlases up to 1990, at the resolution of the 1:100,000 National Hydrography Database Plus (NHDPlus) inter-confluence stream segment, readily aggregated into hierarchically coarser units (e.g. hydrologic unit code 8-digit and 12-digit watersheds). Drylands cover 40% of the global terrestrial surface and provide important ecosystem services. While drylands as a whole are expected to increase in distribution and aridity in coming decades, temperature and precipitation forecasts vary by latitude and geographic region suggesting different trajectories for tropical, subtropical, and temperate drylands. Digital aerial imagery provides baseline data for mapping vegetation types and other land cover features. State water rights information is usually updated on an ad-hoc and ongoing basis. Some states issue quarterly updates to share their information with the public. This report summarizes methods and results for an aerial Dall’s sheep (Ovis dalli dalli) survey conducted in 2008 by the National Park Service Arctic Network Inventory and Monitoring Program, with support from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, in the northeastern portion of Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve, Alaska. This area includes the Itkillik Preserve, where the highest densities of Dall’s sheep in the Park and Preserve have been found, and both subsistence and sport hunting are allowed.
