This shapefile contains landscape factors representing human disturbances summarized to local and network catchments of river reaches for the state of South Dakota. This dataset is the result of clipping the feature class 'NFHAP 2010 HCI Scores and Human Disturbance Data for the Conterminous United States linked to NHDPLUSV1.gdb' to the state boundary of South Dakota. Landscape factors include land uses, population density, roads, dams, mines, and point-source pollution sites. The source datasets that were compiled and attributed to catchments were identified as being: (1) meaningful for assessing fish habitat; (2) consistent across the entire study area in the way that they were assembled; (3) representative of...

This dataset was compiled and published as a service definition for the purpose of display in an interactive web map of the Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative (WLCI). The data layers selected for the dataset are a subset of the data layers in USGS Data Series 683, the Energy Map of Southwestern Wyoming, Part A - Coal and Wind (2012). Data Series 683 includes a geodatabase of all the shapefiles used as data sources. These shapefiles and their metadata can be downloaded from http://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/683/contents/Datafiles/. In order to show the most recent information about mine activity in Wyoming, an additional data layer was added to the service definition: Active Coal Mines (data set credit: Chris Carrol,...

Predicted habitat suitability model (also known as a species distribution model) for the Mojave Ground Squirrel (Xerospermophilus mohavensis) in 5 counties (Inyo, Kern, San Bernardino, and Los Angeles), in California. This model was generated using a maximum entropy (MaxEnt, v3.3.3e) approach. This layer is a probability distribution of 'suitable habitat', where values range from 0 (very low probability of species occurrence) to 1 (very high probability of species occurrence). As with any model, prudence should be taken when evaluating model predictions or when applying the predictions to real world assessments of habitat. The logistic output values were rescaled to include the set [0,1] by subtracting the minimum...

Predicted habitat suitability for the Mojave Ground Squirrel (Xerospermophilus mohavensis) after the LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH anthropogenic (urban, roads and cleared vegetation) and utility-scale renewable energy development (wind, solar and transmission corridors) scale factors have been applied. Scale factors are discussed in Inman et al. (2013). These data cover 5 counties (Inyo, Kern, San Bernardino, and Los Angeles) in California and were generated using a maximum entropy (MaxEnt, v3.3.3e) approach. Observation records for the targeted species were derived from a conglomerate of local sources, and are provided electronically along with this model. The model was based on 440 input localities derived from 629 observations...

This shapefile contains landscape factors representing human disturbances summarized to local and network catchments of river reaches for the Desert Fish Habitat Partnership. This dataset is the result of clipping the feature class 'NFHAP 2010 HCI Scores and Human Disturbance Data for the Conterminous United States linked to NHDPLUSV1.gdb' to the boundary of the Desert Fish Habitat Partnership. Landscape factors include land uses, population density, roads, dams, mines, and point-source pollution sites. The source datasets that were compiled and attributed to catchments were identified as being: (1) meaningful for assessing fish habitat; (2) consistent across the entire study area in the way that they were assembled;...

This shapefile contains sub-indices comprised of various anthropogenic land use/covers respresentative of the risk of potential habitat degradation to streams within the state of Hawaii. This file is an updated version of 'nfhap_hci_hawaii.shp' and incorporates the suggestion from the Hawaii Fish Habitat Partnership of removing trails and paths from the road network to help better represent amounts of disturbance in remote areas such as the Na Pali coast. Subindices are summarized for local and network catchments specific to perennial stream reaches throughout the state. The local and network catchments were developed using a modified version of the 1:24,000 scale National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) as a baselayer....

This shapefile defines the two distinct zones within the 2013 boundary of the Pacific Marine and Estuarine Fish Habitat Partnership (PMEP), a recognized Fish Habitat Partnership (FHP) of the National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP). The two zones of the PMEP include the estuarine and marine nearshore complex (PMEP focus area, coastal subregions, and nearshore marine waters) of the states of California, Oregon, and Washington.

This map is part of a series of online U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) publications, each of which includes several map sheets, some explanatory text, and a descriptive pamphlet. Each map sheet is published as a PDF file. Geographic information system (GIS) files that contain both ESRI2 ArcGIS raster grids (for example, bathymetry, seafloor character) and geotiffs (for example, shaded relief) are also included for each publication. For those who do not own the full suite of ESRI GIS and mapping software, the data can be read using ESRI ArcReader, a free viewer that is available at http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcreader/index.html (last accessed March 27, 2016). Web services, which consist of standard implementations...

The map area offshore of the city of Half Moon Bay, California, which is referred to herein as the “Offshore of Half Moon Bay” map area is located in northern California, on the Pacific Coast of the San Francisco Peninsula about 40 kilometers south of the Golden Gate. The city of Half Moon Bay (population, about 11,000) is the nearest significant onshore cultural cente. The Pillar Point Harbor at the north edge of Half Moon Bay offers a protected landing for boats and provides other marine infrastructure. The harbor, which was formed by the construction of two riprap jetties, is managed by the San Mateo County Harbor District. The harbor has 369 berthing slips and supports a commercial fishing fleet and search-and-rescue...

The Offshore Santa Barbara Map Area lies within the eastern Santa Barbara Channel portion of the Southern California Bight. This geologically complex region forms a major biogeographic transition zone, separating the cold-temperate Oregonian Province north of Point Conception from the warm-temperate California Province to the south. Onshore of the map area, the city of Santa Barbara (population ~92,000) is the main coastal population center; it is part of a contiguous urban area that extends from Carpinteria to Goleta with a population of about 220,000. This urban area was developed south of the west-trending Santa Ynes Mountains on coalescing alluvial surfaces, uplifted marine terraces, and low west-trending hills...

In 2007, the California Ocean Protection Council initiated the California Seafloor Mapping Program (CSMP), designed to create a comprehensive seafloor map of high-resolution bathymetry, marine benthic habitats, and geology within the 3-nautical-mile limit of California’s State Waters. The CSMP approach is to create highly detailed seafloor maps through collection, integration, interpretation, and visualization of swath sonar data, acoustic backscatter, seafloor video, seafloor photography, high-resolution seismic-reflection profiles, and bottom-sediment sampling data. The map products display seafloor morphology and character, identify potential marine benthic habitats, and illustrate both the surficial seafloor...
