Floodplain inundation is believed to be the dominant physical driver of an array of ecosystem patterns and processes in the Upper Mississippi River System (UMRS). Here, we present the results of a geospatial surface-water connectivity model in support of ecological investigations fully described in the USGS Open File Report entitled “Indicators of Ecosystem Structure and Function for the Upper Mississippi River System” (De Jager et al., in review). Briefly, we identified likely instances of floodplain submergence by comparing a daily time series of gage-derived water surface elevations to topo-bathymetric data modified to account for slopes and hydrologic routing. The resulting raster attribute table contains columns...

The Khutia cluster is named for a village in Abkhazia, a break-away province in western Georgia in the western Caucasus Mountains. Most of the cluster is in Abkhazia, but one dense subcluster of events is off-shore in the Black Sea. The cluster contains a 6.5 Ms event on July 16, 1963 and five earthquakes of magnitude 5.0-5.6 so there is a good sample of teleseismic data. Station distribution for direct calibration is not ideal and a robust result is only obtained by including a fairly large geographic region, using many observations around 1° epicentral distance, and including many earthquakes that are mainly observed at regional distances. All events have depth control, mainly from near-source and local distance...
A Bell 407 helicopter with a gyro-stabilized gimbal was used to collect aerial videos of Illinois River Water Science basin riverine study sites on June 7, 2022. Videos were collected during three flights on June 7, 2022 and focused on study sites along the Illinois River near Starved Rock. Photogrammetry techniques were used with the natural color video images to produce an orthomosaic map of the study reach.
Data presented are results of surveys in 2021 for San Diego Cactus Wren (Campylorhynchus brunneicapillus) in southern San Diego County. Surveys were conducted at 378 plots. Plots were surveyed twice in 2021 and the number, age (adult or juvenile), banding status (color banded or not), and breeding status (paired, unpaired, or unknown) of all wrens recorded. Habitat covariate data were collected including amount of dead and stressed cactus in the plot, percent cover of bare ground, and the dominant and percent cover of invasive species.

Delineates outbreaks of the two focal species referred to as Mountain Pine Bettle Covers the CCE and 50km into the surrounding area from 2000 to 2015. This layer is a compilation from multiple sources, Bruce spanworm polygons were removed from Alberta data. This dataset was developed by the Crown Managers Partnership, as part of a transboundary collaborative management initiative for the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem, based on commonly identified management priorities that are relevant at the landscape scale. The CMP is collaborative group of land managers, scientists, and stakeholder in the CCE. These data are chemical analyses of discrete samples of groundwater, stream base flow, and springs collected to support a U.S. Geological Survey study to estimate the timing and source of recharge to the basalt groundwater system in the Umatilla River basin, Oregon. Categories of data include: (1) site information (2) field measurements, (3) tracers of groundwater age and source, and (4) dissolved noble gases. These data were collected during August 26, 2014 – September 13, 2022. Data are in .csv file format.

Data presented are results of surveys in 2021 for Southwestern Willow Flycatcher (Empidonax traillii extimus) in San Diego County, California. Surveys were conducted at the 2016-19 nest monitoring locations (Cleveland National Forest, Rey River Ranch, and Vista Irrigation District) and at Lake Henshaw along the Upper San Luis Rey River. Surveys were conducted along multiple sections of the river where permission to access properties could be obtained. Locations were surveyed using a standardized protocol three to four times between 15 May and 31 July. The number, age (adult or juvenile), sex, banding status (color banded or not, and if so, color combination), and breeding status (paired, undetermined, or transient)...

The Toyama cluster is named for Toyama Prefecture on the northwest coast of Honshu, Japan. It is based on a 7.5 Mw earthquake on January 1, 2024. The cluster includes a foreshock and 32 aftershocks of the first 36 hours. The area has been seismically active for many years and the cluster includes many earlier earthquakes that provide the data coverage necessary for location calibration. Fluid flow driven by magmatic activity has been identified as a likely cause of seismicity in the area by Keisuke Yoshida and colleagues. Nearly all events in the cluster are observed to teleseismic distances. Most events have depth control from near-source and local-distance arrivals, but a few are set to the default depth of 15.0...
This dataset contains a thematic [classified] image derived from supervised classification of WorldView-3 satellite imagery. This data release contains a geospatial thematic (raster) image derived from a supervised classification of WorldView-3 satellite imagery obtained during 2020–21. Arundo donax (Arundo cane, giant reed, or Carrizo cane), is an invasive bamboo-like perennial grass most common to riparian areas throughout the southwestern United States. Because it displaces native riparian vegetation, Arundo cane has greatly disrupted the health of riparian ecosystems in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico during the past 50 years. Arundo cane also has created border security problems along the...

The National Park Service (NPS) requests burn severity assessments through an agreement with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to be completed by analysts with the Monitoring Trends in Burn Severity (MTBS) Program. The MTBS Program assesses the frequency, extent, and magnitude (size and severity) of all large wildland fires (wildfires and prescribed fires) in the conterminous United States (CONUS), Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico for the period 1984 and beyond. All fires reported as greater than 1,000 acres in the western U.S. and greater than 500 acres in the eastern U.S. are mapped across all ownerships. MTBS produces a series of geospatial and tabular data for analysis at a range of spatial, temporal, and thematic...
