This map is part of a series of online U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) publications, each of which includes several map sheets, some explanatory text, and a descriptive pamphlet. Each map sheet is published as a PDF file. Geographic information system (GIS) files that contain both ESRI2 ArcGIS raster grids (for example, bathymetry, seafloor character) and geotiffs (for example, shaded relief) are also included for each publication. The map area offshore of the city of Half Moon Bay, California, which is referred to herein as the “Offshore of Half Moon Bay” map area is located in northern California, on the Pacific Coast of the San Francisco Peninsula about 40 kilometers south of the Golden Gate. The city of Half Moon Bay (population, about 11,000) is the nearest significant onshore cultural cente. The Pillar Point Harbor at the north edge of Half Moon Bay offers a protected landing for boats and provides other marine infrastructure. The harbor, which was formed by the construction of two riprap jetties, is managed by the San Mateo County Harbor District. The Offshore Santa Barbara Map Area lies within the eastern Santa Barbara Channel portion of the Southern California Bight. This geologically complex region forms a major biogeographic transition zone, separating the cold-temperate Oregonian Province north of Point Conception from the warm-temperate California Province to the south. Onshore of the map area, the city of Santa Barbara (population ~92,000) is the main coastal population center; it is part of a contiguous urban area that extends from Carpinteria to Goleta with a population of about 220,000. In 2007, the California Ocean Protection Council initiated the California Seafloor Mapping Program (CSMP), designed to create a comprehensive seafloor map of high-resolution bathymetry, marine benthic habitats, and geology within the 3-nautical-mile limit of California’s State Waters. The CSMP approach is to create highly detailed seafloor maps through collection, integration, interpretation, and visualization of swath sonar data, acoustic backscatter, seafloor video, seafloor photography, high-resolution seismic-reflection profiles, and bottom-sediment sampling data. Maps on sheet 9 show the thickness and the depth to base of uppermost Pleistocene and Holocene (post-LGM) deposits, both for the Offshore of San Gregorio map area and, to establish regional context, for a larger area (about 91 km of coast) that extends from the Bolinas area to the Pescadero Point area. To make these maps, water bottom and depth to base of the LGM horizons were mapped from seismic-reflection profiles using Seisworks software. The difference between the two horizons was exported from Seisworks for every shot point as XY coordinates (UTM zone 10) and two-way travel time (TWT). A mineral resource assessment was performed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to assess the potential of undiscovered skarn-hosted tungsten resources in the Northern Rocky Mountain region of eastern Idaho and western Montana. This region has seen moderate tungsten trioxide (WO3) production in the past from a variety of mineralization styles including skarn, vein and replacement, and wolframite-quartz veins. The geology of the area is dominated by large plutons of Cretaceous to Tertiary age, emplaced into a belt of sedimentary rock ranging from Mesoproterozoic to Permian age, and affected by tectonism related to the Sevier and later Laramide orogenies. This data release provides the georeferenced boundaries that delimit each spatial unit of the Great Lakes Regional Aquatic Gap Analysis Project (GLGap) Coastal Hydrospatial Framework at each spatial scale from the local 90m cell to the entire Laurentian Great Lakes system and from the shoreline to the deepest offshore waters. This data provides locations and technical specifications of legacy versions (ver. 1.0 - ver. X.X) of the United States Wind Turbines database. Each release, typically done quarterly, updates the database with newly installed wind turbines, removes wind turbines that have been identified as dismantled, and applies other verifications based on updated imagery and ongoing quality-control. This project identifies priority areas in the Columbia Plateau Ecoregion to implement conservation strategies for riverine and riparian habitat. This is tailored towards the Arid Lands Initiative (ALI) conservation goals and objectives, and provides the foundation for adaptation to a changing climate. In large river ecosystems, the timing, extent, duration and frequency of floodplain inundation greatly affect the quality of fish and wildlife habitat and the supply of important ecosystem goods and services.
