The Well Sample Library presently contains (1) approximately 10,000,000 feet of rock cuttings from 2,500 oil and gas test holes and water wells drilled in Arkansas; (2) 2,500 feet of core from 50 oil and gas tests mainly in south Arkansas; (3) 300,000 feet of core from 1,500 mineral exploration tests in the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas.
The Core Library and Data Center at Mercury, Nevada, was established as a repository for geologic, hydrologic, and geophysical data and materials collected in support of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) defense and environment programs at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS), formerly Nevada Test Site (NTS). The Core Library is operated by the U.S. Geological Survey and has been used as a staging area for many scientific studies throughout the south western United States, in addition to NNSS. The Core Library houses drill-bit cuttings, drill core (both vertical and horizontal), geophysical logs, and other rock samples collected mostly from NNSS. Some samples are from other DOE facilities in New Mexico, Mississippi,...

This collection consists of rock samples associated with the research of USGS scientist Alfred Miesch. Miesch was an early contributor to USGS geochemistry research and many of these samples are associated with his research. In 1953 Dr. Miesch began a 33-year career with the Survey. His work in Grand Junction, CO involved research on the distribution of minor elements in association with uranium on the Colorado Plateau. He moved to Denver in 1959 where he continued his work on element distributions in rocks, soils, and plants, ultimately becoming Chief of the Branch of Geochemical Census, which he later renamed Branch of Regional Geochemistry. In this capacity he began a working relationship with scientists in the...

This collection includes shell-skeletal remains of Gopherus agassizii from 1980 through 2012 that was collected as part of a monograph covering the desert tortoise populations inside and outside the fenced Desert Tortoise Research Natural Area of California during a period of population decline. The principal objectives of the study were to compare trends in demographic and habitat data inside the protective fence with those outside the fence. Populations and habitat outside the fence were unprotected from recreational vehicle use and sheep grazing. Data for each shell-skeletal remain found on the long-term, 7.77 square kilometers plot, included carcass number, previous number as a live tortoise, date of collection,...
Photographs of core from 56 boreholes in Earth MRI focus areas in Wisconsin hosted on the WGNHS data viewer. Focus areas represented are: Midcontinent Rift mafic-ultramafic satellite intrusions, Paleoproterozoic weathering beneath mature quartzites, Upper Mississippi Valley Mineral District, Wolf River Batholith, and Upper Ordovician Phosphates.Focus areas are south of ceded territories except for the Midcontinent Rift mafic-ultramafic satellite intrusions, also know as the Round Lake exploration, as this is the only known site of exploration for a critical mineral, vanadium, in Wisconsin. Borehole data for these 56 drillholes has also been created. The core represented in the photographs is a subset of the collection,...
The U.S. Geological Survey Denver Library maintains a collection of more than 400,000 photographs taken during geologic studies of the United States and its territories from 1868 to the present. These images provide a visual history of the discovery, development, and sciences of the United States and its Geological Survey. Some photographs have been used in USGS publications, but most have never been published. Currently, this website represents less than 10 percent of the Library's images with approximately 38,000 photographs on-line. Visit http://library.usgs.gov/photo/#/.

Final report detailing the results of the climate change vulnerability assessment conducted by the Wildlife Conservation Society. The specific goals of this assessment were to: provide a climate change vulnerability ranking for selected Arctic Alaskan breeding bird species; evaluate the relative contribution of specific sensitivity and exposure factors to individual species rankings; consider how this assessment may be integrated with other approaches; and appraise the effectiveness of the NatureServe Climate Change Vulnerability Index (CCVI) tool.

This collection consist of vertebrate fossils from North America featuring stratigraphic and spatial data. Data is primarily type fossils from the USGS Denver vertebrate Catalog created and maintained by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Data were collected by paleontologist Dr. G. Edward Lewis during his years of service within the USGS Paleontology and Stratigraphy Branch. His catalogs contain 1122 fossil localities. Collection was originally created and maintained by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and as of March 2020 has been transferred to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
This is a short description of the resource. This is for demo and training purposes only.

The daily boat tracks of the 1997-2001 summer skiff-based double-sampling surveys were recorded to an onboard computer using the custom survey software RECORD (John I. Hodges, FWS-MBM-Alaska, retired). The tracks were recorded by capturing the skiff’s location from a GPS every five seconds as long as the software was running. The software was started at some time between the boat’s engine start and the start of the survey, and was shut down at some time between the end of the survey and engine shut-down. The tracks may thus include the boat’s travel to and from the home base. Note that the following boat tracks are missing: all 1997 tracks; one track on 08/12/1998; one track on 08/08/2001; one track on 08/09/2001.

The National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) program was initiated by the Atomic Energy Commission (now the Department of Energy; DOE) in 1973 with a primary goal of identifying uranium resources in the United States. The Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance (HSSR) program was one of nine components of NURE. Planned systematic sampling of stream sediments, soils, groundwater, and surface water over the entire United States began in 1975 under the responsibility of four DOE national laboratories: Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLL), Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (LASL), Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant (ORGDP), and Savannah River Laboratory (SRL). Each DOE laboratory developed its own sample...
The U.S. Geological Survey’s Wetland and Aquatic Research Center (WARC), formed in 2015, pulls together experts in biology and ecology from around the Southeastern United States and Caribbean. With primary locations in Lafayette, Louisiana, and Gainesville, Florida, WARC scientists pursue relevant and objective research and new approaches and technologies, to build scientific knowledge and provide understanding and tools for wise management and conservation of wetlands and aquatic ecosystems and their associated plant and animal communities throughout the nation and the world, with an emphasis on the Southeast United States, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico. Beyond the primary centers, research facilities...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in partnership with several federal agencies, has now developed and released seven National Land Cover Database (NLCD) products: NLCD 1992, 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016, 2019, and 2021. Beginning with the 2016 release, land cover products were created for two-to-three-year intervals between 2001 and the most recent year. These products provide spatially explicit and reliable information on the Nation’s land cover and land cover change. NLCD continues to provide innovative, consistent, and robust methodologies for production of a multi-temporal land cover and land cover change database. The NLCD 2021 release is update based, so the Land Cover and Impervious Surface products released in...
