This map layer portrays the estimated use of water in counties in the United States, in the year 1995. The map layer was extracted from the U.S. Geological Survey Water Resources of the United States water use database, which is a long term data set that documents information on water use since 1950. This map layer contains information about water use for public supply, industrial, irrigation, mining, livestock, and thermoelectric power, by county throughout the United States.

The Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative is a long-term science-based effort to ensure southwestern Wyoming’s wildlife and habitat remain viable in areas facing development pressure. Wyoming encompasses some of the highest quality wildlife habitats in the Intermountain West. At the same time, this region is an important source of natural gas. It is critically important to apply a geologic understanding of emerging patterns of energy resource exploitation, to identify the most likely geographic domains of future impact. Using Geographic Information System technology, energy data pertinent to the conservation decision-making process have been assembled to illustrate the temporal evolution of oil and gas production...

The USGS Mineral Resources Program (MRP) provides scientific information for objective resource assessments and unbiased research results on mineral potential, production, consumption, and environmental effects. The MRP is the sole Federal source for this information. MRDS describes metallic and nonmetallic mineral resources throughout the world. Included are deposit name, location, commodity, deposit description, geologic characteristics, production, reserves, resources, and references. It includes the original MRDS and MAS/MILS data. MRDS is large and complex. This service provides a subset of the database comprised of those data fields deemed most useful and which most frequently contain some information.
The USGS Earth Explorer is a tool for querying and ordering satellite images, aerial photographs, and cartographic products.
The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is a comprehensive set of digital spatial data that contains information about surface water features such as lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, springs and wells. Within the NHD, surface water features are combined to form "reaches," which provide the framework for linking water-related data to the NHD surface water drainage network. These linkages enable the analysis and display of these water-related data in upstream and downstream order.
These pages provide access to water-resources data collected at approximately 1.5 million sites in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The USGS investigates the occurrence, quantity, quality, distribution, and movement of surface and underground waters and disseminates the data to the public, State and local governments, public and private utilities, and other Federal agencies involved with managing our water resources.

A joint venture involving the National Atlas programs in Canada (Natural Resources Canada), Mexico (Instituto Nacional de Estad¿stica Geograf¿a e Inform¿tica), and the United States (U.S. Geological Survey), as well as the North American Commission for Environmental Co-operation, has led to the release (June 2004) of several new products: an updated paper map of North America, and its associated geospatial data sets and their metadata. These data sets are available online from each of the partner countries both for visualization and download. The North American Atlas data are standardized geospatial data sets at 1:10,000,000 scale. A variety of basic data layers (e.g. roads, railroads, populated places, political...

Provides and applies relevant earthquake science information and knowledge for reducing deaths, injuries, and property damage from earthquakes through understanding of their characteristics and effects and by providing the information and knowledge needed to mitigate these losses.
This map layer shows the locations of wells maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) that are used to monitor the effects of droughts and other climate variability on ground-water levels. The Ground-Water Climate Response Network consists of a national network of about 140 wells monitored as part of the Ground-Water Resources Program. It is supplemented by more than 200 wells monitored as part of the Cooperative Water Program that meet the same network criteria, which are: open to a single, known hydrogeologic unit; known well construction that allows good water-level measurements; located in unconfined aquifers or near-surface confined aquifers that respond to climatic fluctuations; minimally affected by...
