Environmental DNA (eDNA) water samples were collected at 15 tree islands containing wading bird breeding colonies (order Pelecaniformes) and 15 empty control islands in the central Everglades of Florida in spring of 2017 (April through June) and analyzed for the presence of eDNA from invasive Burmese pythons (Python bivittatus). The Burmese python is now established as a breeding population throughout south Florida, USA. Pythons can consume large quantities of prey and may be a particular threat to wading bird breeding colonies in the Everglades. To quantify python occupancy rates at tree islands where wading birds breed, we utilized environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis—a genetic tool which detects shed DNA in water...

This work integrated multiple topographic and bathymetric data sources to generate a merged topobathymetric map of western Prince William Sound. We converted all data sources to NAD 83 UTM Zone 6 N and mean higher high water (MHHW) before compiling. In Barry Arm, north of Port Wells, we used a digital terrain model (DTM) derived from subaerial light detection and ranging (lidar) data collected on June 26, 2020, (Daanen and others, 2021) and submarine multibeam sonar bathymetric data collected between August 12 and 23, 2020 (NOAA, 2020). In College Fiord, adjacent to Barry Arm to the east, we used multibeam sonar bathymetric data collected between March 25 and August 26, 2021 (NOAA, 2021). These data were combined...

This data release is a re-release of an airborne geophysical survey carried out for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) by Spectra Exploration Geoscience Corp., from November 2000 to February 2001. The purpose of this survey was to acquire high-resolution, high-sensitivity aeromagnetic data over an area in northeast and north-central North Dakota and assess the area for anomalies and magnetic features pertaining to the local geology. To achieve this purpose, the survey area was systematically traversed by an aircraft carrying geophysical instruments along parallel flight lines (traverses) spaced 0.25 miles (400 meters) apart in an east-west alignment. Tie lines were flown normal to the traverses spaced at...

This USGS Data Release represents geospatial and tabular data for the Nisqually River Delta historical habitat mapping. The data release was produced in compliance with the new 'open data' requirements as a way to make the scientific products associated with USGS research efforts and publications available to the public. The dataset consists of 9 separate items: 1. Forest Change (raster dataset) 2. Forest Type Change (raster dataset) 3. Functional Pathway Change (raster dataset) 4. 1957 Habitat Map (raster dataset) 5. 1980 Habitat Map (raster dataset) 6. 2015 Habitat Map (raster dataset) 7. 1980 Species Map (raster dataset) 8. 2015 Species Map (raster dataset) 9. Wetland Change (raster dataset) These data support...

A raster surface identifying hotspots of conservation priority based on 375 location records (89 unique geographic locations) of 28 species of Carnivora in Peninsular Malaysia. Hotspot analysis was conducted by calculating the Getis-Ord Gi* (pronounced G-i-star) statistic, using IUCN Red List status rank for each species as a weighting variable. Raster cell values represent a kernel density of z-scores measuring the statistical significance of clustering or dispersion of species of conservation concern. Areas of high clustering (high z-scores) correspond to areas on Peninsular Malaysia where carnivore communities of conservation concern are more likely to persist, and delineate priority regions for carnivore conservation....

These data represent occupancy estimates for western bumble bee across the western conterminous United States. This product contains five raster layers (appearing as separate bands in a multi-band raster). The first two bands represent the predicted occupancy of western bumble bee in 1998 and 2020. We modeled western bumble bee occupancy as a function of climate and land cover. The last three bands represent future occupancy projections of western bumble bee into the mid-century (2050s). The future projections cover a range of expected changes in climate and land cover and are ranked as best-case (band 3), middle-case (band 4), and worst-case (band 5).

Invasion of exotic annual grass (EAG), such as cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum), red brome (Bromus rubens), and medusahead (Taeniatherum caput-medusae), could have irreversible degradation impact to arid and semiarid rangeland ecosystems in the western United States. The distribution and abundance of these EAG species are highly influenced by weather variables such as temperature and precipitation. We set out to develop a machine learning modelling approach using a lightGBM algorithm to predict how changes in annual and immediate past precipitation regimes impact the abundance of EAG in the study area. The predictive model primarily utilized edaphic and weather variables and a seed source proxy from previous years to...

We used NLCD 2011, SSURGO, and SEGAP data to map the density of desired resources for open pine ecosystems and six focal species of birds and 2 reptiles within the historic range of longleaf pine east of the Mississippi River. Binary rasters were created of sites with desired characteristics such as land form, hydrology, land use and land cover, soils, potential habitat for focal species, and putative source populations of focal species. Each raster was smoothed using a kernel density estimator. Rasters were combined and scaled to map priority locations for the management of each focal species. Species’ rasters were combined and scaled to provide maps of overall priority for birds and for birds and reptiles. For...

This Data Release accompanies the publication "State of stress in areas of active unconventional oil and gas development in North America" by J.-E. Lund Snee (now J.-E. Lundstern) and M.D. Zoback (2022) in the AAPG Bulletin. This dataset provides maximum horizontal stress (SHmax) orientation and relative stress magnitude (faulting regime) information that comprise a new-generation crustal stress map for North America. Relative stress magnitudes are presented using the AÏ• (A_phi) parameter, a single scalar that represents the ratio of the three principal stress magnitudes. Data were collected between 2015 and 2022. Data points for SHmax orientations, relative stress magnitudes, and the earthquake focal mechanisms...

This digital terrain model represents historical elevations along the valley of the North Fork Toutle River upstream of its confluence with the Green River in Cowlitz and Skamania Counties, Washington. Most elevations were derived from U.S. Geological Survey 1:62,500 scale topographic quadrangle maps published from 1953 to 1958 that were derived from aerial photographs taken in 1951 and 1952. Elevations representing the bed of Spirit Lake, at the head of the valley, were derived from a bathymetric map based on survey data from 1974. Elevations are in units of meters and have been adjusted to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988.

The Louisiana State Legislature created the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed pursuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting coastal wetlands loss. This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the Naomi Outfall Management (BA-0003c), Barataria Bay Waterway East Side Shoreline Protection (BA-0026), and Naomi Freshwater Diversion (BA-0003) projects for 2018. This data is used as a basemap land-water classification. It also serves as...

The depths to a high and average water table below the land surface were estimated across the Clover Creek watershed in Pierce County, Washington. Groundwater model simulations provided initial estimates of water-table depths for the analysis. To provide optimized, data-driven estimates of these depths, a continuous bias correction surface was applied to model output according to differences between simulated and observed water levels at observation wells.
