The dataset contains Esherichia coli and quantitative polymerase chain reaction data for microbial source tracking markers in the Chattahoochee River and streams within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation area from samples collected in the winter and summer of the federal fiscal years 2016 and 2017. Six water samples were collected from three sites on the Chattahoochee River each season. Eleven stream sites and one additional site on the Chattahoochee River were sampled once each season, with the exception of two sites, which were not sampled in winter FY16.

To better understand the influence of human activities and natural processes on surface-water quality, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) developed the SPARROW (SPAtially Referenced Regressions On Watershed attributes) (Schwarz and others, 2006; Alexander and others, 2008) model. The framework is used to relate water-quality monitoring data to sources and watershed characteristics that affect the fate and transport of constituents to receiving surface-water bodies. This dataset contains an inventory of South Carolina U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) streamgages evaluated in 2017 as part of gage network gap assessment. Both continuous record and crest stage gages are included in this dataset. The data are grouped into three categories: rural streamgages with equal to or greater than 10 years of peak-flow data, rural streamgages with less than 10 years of peak-flow data, and urban streamgages.

This dataset provides the water-quality results for organic and inorganic concentrations analyzed from samples collected at residential tapwater faucets, sourced from private drinking water wells in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Samples were collected in July and August, 2018 from 20 locations. To address the data and information gap for characterizing coastal drought, a coastal salinity index (CSI) was developed using salinity data (Conrads 2016; Conrads and Darby, 2017). The CSI uses an approach similar to the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), a readily available drought index that is widely used for monitoring meteorological droughts (McKee and others, 1993). The CSI substitutes total monthly precipitation with monthly mean salinity data to determine the probability of recording a given salinity value in a particular month. In cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), the U.S. Geological Survey prepared geospatial layers illustrating the boundaries of the regions used in the South Carolina (SC) Stream Hydrograph Methods presented in Bohman (1990,1992). The region limits were described in written text and depicted in figures in Bohman (1990, 1992), but have not been provided as geospatial layers (due to the age of the original publications). This dataset is part of the National Water Census ongoing development of best estimates of daily historical water budgets for over 100,000 hydrologic units across the United States. In this release, estimates of total flow and snowmelt for each hydrologic unit are added to the already released estimates of actual evapotranspiration, snowpack water-equivalent storage, soil moisture, recharge, streamflow, and precipitation. The collection of borehole geophysical logs data was conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey South Atlantic Water Science Center in the vicinity of the Cristex Drum National Priorities List Superfund Site near Oxford, North Carolina, during January through March 2016.
