The spring 2017 mainland sea otter count began on April 30, and although the shore-based counts were completed by May 12, 2017, the aerial counts were not completed until July 12, 2017. Overall viewing conditions this year were good, although not as good as conditions experienced during the 2016 spring census (View Score 2.4 versus 3.1, where 0=poor, 1=fair, 2=good, 3=very good, and 4=excellent). The surface canopies of kelp (Macrocystis sp.) were considered by most participants to be considerably below normal for this time of year in most areas of the mainland range. The dataset contains Esherichia coli and quantitative polymerase chain reaction data for microbial source tracking markers in the Chattahoochee River and streams within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation area from samples collected in the winter and summer of the federal fiscal years 2016 and 2017. Six water samples were collected from three sites on the Chattahoochee River each season. Eleven stream sites and one additional site on the Chattahoochee River were sampled once each season, with the exception of two sites, which were not sampled in winter FY16.

This collection of GIS layers was prepared for the report Alaska Arctic Marine Fish Ecology Catalog (U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2016–5038). The layers display geographic distribution and sampling locations for Arctic marine fish species in the region of United States sectors of the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas. The NABat sampling frame is a grid-based finite-area frame spanning Canada, the United States, and Mexico consisting of N total number of 10- by 10-km (100-km2) grid cell sample units for the continental United States, Canada, and Alaska and 5- by 5-km (25km2) for Hawaii and Puerto Rico. These data describe the catch and biological data from 363 bottom-set gill-net lifts distributed throughout Lake Michigan (including main basin and Green Bay) between April and November in 1930–1932. Data collected from the R/V Fulmar were recorded in notebooks and are now archived at the U.S. Geological Survey’s Great Lakes Science Center. Each lift included 1–7 gangs of linen gill nets. Each gang comprised 3–5 panels each having a length of 155 m, a height of 1.5 m, and a (stretch-)mesh size of either 60, 64, 67, 70, or 76 mm. The digitization of the Fulmar data notebooks was started in the late 1990s and finished in this study.
The data document the results of several microbe bioassays performed by the USGS on Phragmites australis plants, including those performed on mature leaves, seedlings, and dead leaf tissues exploration of the literature to find accounts of microbes associated with Phragmites worldwide. For the bioassays, we prepared 162 pure cultures isolated from Phragmites plants in North America along the east coast, Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Great Lakes area, 125 of which were from a previous study, and 38 represent new collections. The Fluvial Egg Drift Simulator (FluEgg) estimates bighead, silver, and grass carp egg and larval drift in rivers using species-specific egg developmental data combined with user-supplied hydraulic inputs (Garcia and others, 2013; Domanski, 2020). This data release contains results from 240 FluEgg 4.1.0 simulations of bighead carp eggs in the Illinois River under steady flow conditions. The data release also contains the hydraulic inputs used in the FluEgg simulations and a KML file of the centerline that represents the model domain. Vaccine and control plots were selected randomly from the available pairs at each location. Baits containing Rhodamine B, a biomarker, were distributed at each plot. This dataset describes the hydrogeomorphic structure and lake-tributary mixing in three intermediate-sized Lake Michigan rivermouths: Ford River, Manitowoc River, and Pere Marquette River. Data were collected from May to October 2011. Water chemistry variables were measured with a multiparameter sonde along longitudinal, lateral, and vertical transects. The dataset supports a larger study that examined the impacts of three tackifiers (guar, psyllium, and polyacrylamide) on growth of two dryland mosses (Bryum argenteum and Syntrichia ruralis).
