The collection of borehole geophysical logs and images and continuous water-level data was conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey South Atlantic Water Science Center in the vicinity of the GMH Electronics Superfund site near Roxboro, North Carolina, during December 2012 through July 2015. The study purpose was part of a continued effort to assist the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in the development of a conceptual groundwater model for the assessment of current contaminant distribution and future migration of contaminants. Previous work by the U.S. Geological Survey South Atlantic Water Science Center at the site involved similar data collection, in addition to surface geologic mapping and passive diffusion...

The point data file ("Soda Fire Point and Pasture Data (2016).Point Data.csv") includes 2016 vegetative cover values of exotic annual grass and perennial grass measured within three different types of plots for 75 pastures in the Soda Fire, which burned in 2015: 6m² plot using a grid-point intercept photo software, SamplePoint (Booth et al. 2006), 1m² quadrat using an unguided rapid ocular estimate in the field, 531m² circular plot using an unguided rapid ocular estimate in the field. Smaller plots were nested within larger plots. The pasture data file ("Soda Fire Point and Pasture Data (2016).Pasture Data.csv") includes pasture level metrics of area, elevation, precipitation, slope, heatload, soils, and herbicide...

The collection of borehole geophysical logs data was conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey South Atlantic Water Science Center in the vicinity of the Cristex Drum National Priorities List Superfund Site near Oxford, North Carolina, during January through March 2016. In an effort to assist the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in the development of a conceptual groundwater model for the assessment of current contaminant distribution and future migration of contaminants, borehole geophysical log and image data collection, which included the delineation of more than 150 subsurface features (primarily fracture orientations) in 3 open borehole wells.

The scenes in this dataset were originally selected by Richard Irish, NASA-GSFC, and were derived manually from Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) Level 1G scenes by Pat Scaramuzza and Michelle Bouchard at the USGS EROS Center. Its purpose is train and validate cloud masking algorithms. Each product is provided as a thematic raster, and includes the classes of “cloud”, “thin cloud”, “clear”, and “fill”. While these validation images were subjectively digitized by a single analyst, they provide useful information for quantifying the accuracy of clouds flagged by various cloud masking algorithms. Each mask is provided in GeoTIFF format, and includes all bands from the original Landsat Level-1 data (GeoTIFF),...

Loricariid catfish of the genus Pterygoplichthys have been introduced in many localities around the world. They are freshwater fishes, but may also use low-salinity habitats such as estuaries for feeding or dispersal. Here we report results of a field survey and salinity-tolerance trials for a population of Pterygoplichthys sp. collected in Kerala, India. In both chronic and acute salinity-tolerance trials, fish were able to withstand salinities up to 12 ppt with no mortality; however, fish transferred to salinities > 12 ppt did not survive. The experimental results provide evidence that non-native Pterygoplichthys sp. are able to tolerate mesohaline conditions for extended periods, and can easily invade the brackish...

This contains data from 1,030 surveys returned in 2017 from across the United States. Data were collected via a mail-out survey stratified by the population of each state. Data collected include nature-related activity participation, attitudes and barriers to hunting and birdwatching, knowledge of others who hunt and birdwatch, preferred birds, involvement in conservation activities, preferences for information channels on nature-related topics, trust in sources on nature-related topics, wetlands knowledge/visitation, evaluation of wetlands' ecosystem services, and demographics. The purpose of this survey was to inform the 2018 update of the North American Waterfowl Management Plan.

A table is presented listing: (1) USGS Gage Station Numbers, (2) Model Identification Tags, (3) Model Term Estimates, (4) Model Term Fit Statistics, and (5) Model Performance Indices for Maximum Likelihood Logistic Regression (MLLR) Models estimating hydrological drought probabilities in the United States. Models were developed using streamflow daily values (DV) readily available from the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System (NWIS) and mean monthly streamflows readily computed from NWIS streamflow DV. Models were prepared for 9,144 sites throughout the United States as described in: Modeling Summer Month Hydrological Drought Probabilities In The United States Using Antecedent Flow Conditions...

Stream segments, aquatic organism captures, stream surveys, and road-stream crossings described by these metadata accompany a 2012 electrofishing study of the distribution and abundance of aquatic organisms (fish, lampreys, amphibians and crayfish), conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey, and the Pacific Northwest Region Aquatic and Riparian Ecosystem Monitoring Project (AREMP) of the U.S. Forest Service, in the Siuslaw National Forest in western Oregon, USA. The purpose of the study was to quantify the effectiveness of stream-road crossing restoration (culvert replacement to the stream simulation standard) in terms of numbers of fish and length of stream gained through restoration, and to quantify the continuing...

This data set provides a table of length, weight, sex, and estimated fecundity of Silver Chub Macrhybopsis storeriana in western Lake Erie from 1979 through 1987. These data are potentially useful to those studying recovery and restoration of Silver Chub in Lake Erie. These data were collected as part of routine trawl surveys in western Lake Erie. Other data associated with these data can be found in the Great Lakes Research Vessel Operations 1958-2018. (ver. 3.0, April 2019). A drawn map, originally packaged alongside the hard copy data sheets, is included in this data release. This map guides users in identifying specific locations of capture. Due to the legacy nature of these data, location data is estimated...

Data from 10-day sediment toxicity tests of bed sediments from the Niagara River area of concern and tributaries, Niagara and Erie County, New York. Specifically, the data was used to compare the survival and growth of two macroinvertebrate species in sediments from study sites and laboratory controls. Results are from 10-day sediment exposures of two test species, Chironomus dilutus and Hyalella azteca. Bed-sediments were collected from depositional areas using either a petite Ponar (0.03 square meter) dredge or a stainless steel sediment scoop. At each site, approximately five grabs or scoops were composited into a bucket, mixed, and a 4-liter (L) subsample was stored in a polyethylene container. Sediment toxicity...
