The data include soil texture, soil-water, and estimated soil strength properties for soil map units and from geotechnical investigations of landslide areas affecting highways in the municipalities of Lares, Naranjito, and Utuado, Puerto Rico. The map units are derived from published soil mapping (https://websoilsurvey.sc.egov.usda.gov/app/) and have been grouped by municipality, Unified Soil Classification System symbol, and order-of-magnitude ranges of hydraulic conductivity to create generalized map units for assigning soil-water parameters and soil-strength parameters. Each group (generalized unit) includes one or more soil map units. The groups are numbered sequentially from one (1) for each municipality with...
This dataset contains the daily average base flow, as determined by hydrograph separation, for 14 watersheds in Gwinnett County, Georgia for October 2001 through September 2020. Hydrograph separations were done using the Web-based Hydrograph Analysis Tool (WHAT) using the simple local minimum method on the daily average streamflows, which are also provided in this dataset. Base flow along with the calculated base-flow index (the proportion of base flow to total flow) were used to characterize groundwater recharge and the relative degree of storm runoff in the watersheds. Base flow was also used as predictor variable in models for estimating streamwater constituent loads for 12 water-quality constituents at 13 of...

These data consist of larval fish and water profile data collected with a nearshore to offshore transect approach at 9 transects throughout Lake Huron. Larval fish and their stomach contents were identified, enumerated, and measured (if possible) using a dissecting microscope. These data were used to calculate densities of potential fish prey items (what is available in the environment) and compare that to what the fishes ate for selectivity analysis. Larval fish age estimation based on daily growth rings from otoliths was also conducted. These data are in raw form. The water profile data were collected using a bathythermograph and bin-averaged at the 1 m level. Environmental prey data are available at the following...

This dataset provides seven Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) scenes covering a portion of the Madeira River in Brazil from Porto Velho to Abuna. Each scene has been pre-processed for the use of detecting artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) riverine dredges. The scenes were collected from the ASF search vertex (https://search.asf.alaska.edu/#/) as L1 Detected High-Res Dual-Pol (GRD-HD) products. They were acquired using a C-band SAR with the Interferometric Wide Swath (IW) mode, VV and VH polarizations, and a temporal resolution of 6 days. Each SAR acquisition covers a 250 km swath; however, these have been clipped to the study area. They have a 20 m x 22 m (ground range x azimuth) resolution, a 10 m...

Surface Urban Heat Island (SUHI) hotspot data are defined as areas of statistically high land surface temperature (LST). A pixel is determined as statistically high if it exceeds one standard deviation above the mean of all pixels with similar land cover type. Data are provided across 50 regions throughout the Continental U.S. using previously generated annual maximum land surface temperature (MaxLST) – derived from Collection 1 Landsat U.S. Analysis Ready Data (ARD) for Surface Temperature. The data ranges from 1985-2020, and covers data within 5 km of each city. The data is further separated into persistent urban and new urban outputs. Persistent Urban is defined as areas that are reported as urban in 1985 and...
The data in this release map Marconi Beach, Head of the Meadow Beach, and Nauset Light Beach, in Cape Cod National Seashore (CACO), Massachusetts, before and after Hurricane Lee in September 2023. U.S Geological Survey personnel conducted field surveys to collect topographic data using global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) at all three beaches. In addition, at Nauset Light Beach, an uncrewed aerial system (UAS) was used to collect images with a Ricoh GRII camera for use in structure from motion photogrammetry. High-precision GNSS targets (AeroPoints) were used as ground control points (GCPs) for the UAS photogrammetry. Agisoft Metashape (v. 2.0.1) software was used to create a digital surface model and an orthomosaic...

Sediment cores were collected in the Cache Creek Settling Basin (CCSB), Yolo County, California, during October 2011 at 10 locations (borehole sites) and during August 2012 at 5 other locations. Total core depths ranged from approximately 4.6 to 13.7 meters (15 to 45 feet), with penetration to about 9.1 meters (30 feet) at most locations. Detailed subsampling (3-centimeter intervals) was done at total of seven locations: six along an east-west transect in the southern part of the Cache Creek Settling Basin and at one in the northern part of the basin for analyses of total mercury; organic content; and cesium-137, which was used for dating. This data release reports results of the analyses of each subsample of these...
Floodplain inundation is believed to be the dominant physical driver of an array of ecosystem patterns and processes in the Upper Mississippi River System (UMRS). Here, we present the results of a geospatial surface-water connectivity model in support of ecological investigations fully described in the USGS Open File Report entitled “Indicators of Ecosystem Structure and Function for the Upper Mississippi River System” (De Jager et al., in review). Briefly, we identified likely instances of floodplain submergence by comparing a daily time series of gage-derived water surface elevations to topo-bathymetric data modified to account for slopes and hydrologic routing. The resulting raster attribute table contains columns...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) developed a systematic, quantitative approach to prioritize candidate basins that can support the assessment and forecasting objectives of the major USGS water science programs. Candidate basins were the level-4 hydrologic units (HUC4) with some of the smaller HUC4s being combined (hereafter referred to as modified HUC4 basins). Candidate basins for the contiguous United States (CONUS) were grouped into 18 hydrologic regions. Thirty-three geospatial variables representing land use, climate change, water use, water-balance components, streamflow alteration, fire risk, and ecosystem sensitivity were initially considered to assist in ranking candidate basins for study. The two highest...
