Data on gold deposits are extracted from an existing publication to enable analysis. The data comprise selected portions of a data set that are published by C.J. Hodgson in "Preliminary Report on the Timmins-Kirkland Lake Area Gold Deposits File," which is available online as a digital image of a report. As an image, the data set cannot be analyzed. Consequently, selected portions of the data set are re-published here in a text file. The datum for the latitude and longitude is not specified in the report and is assumed to be the North American Datum of 1927 (NAD27). The Ontario Geological Survey, Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, Ontario, Canada kindly granted permission to re-publish these data. Hodgson,...

Cassiterite (SnO2) samples were collected throughout Devon and Cornwall Counties in southwest England, United Kingdom. Samples were prepared and analyzed for direct age dating on a laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (LA-ICPMS) system at the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver, Colorado in February and April 2018. This data release accompanies the publication, 'U-Pb geochronology of tin deposits associated with the Cornubian Batholith of southwest England: Direct dating of cassiterite by in situ LA-ICPMS' (Moscati and Neymark, in press). The publication describes a greater chronologic control and refinement of Cornubian tin ore deposition and allows comparison of its timing with previously published...

Zircon (ZrSiO4) and cassiterite (SnO2) samples were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from the Yazov Granite, Transbaikalia region, Eastern Siberia, Russia. Samples (in the form of mounted loose grains) were prepared and analyzed for direct age dating on a laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (LA–ICPMS) system at the USGS in Denver, Colorado from February 2017 to June 2019. The data indicate that high tin concentrations in the Yazov Granite are caused by inheritance of older cassiterite crystals and may imply that these granites cannot be genetically related to primary tin ore deposits of the region. These results have broad implications in understanding how critical elements,...

Apatite [Ca5(PO4)3F], titanite [CaTiSiO5], and rutile [TiO2] samples were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from the Coles Hill uranium deposit, Virginia. The samples (in the form of polished thin sections) were prepared and analyzed for direct age dating on a laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (LA–ICPMS) system at the USGS in Denver, Colorado from August 2017 to March 2019.

Tephra samples were collected by Leah Morgan (now at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)) from the Hugub Area, Kesem-Kebena-Dulecha, Afar, Ethiopia. Sanidine grains were separated from the bulk sample and analyzed by argon geochronology at the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre, Scotland. The data indicate that the age of the Hugub Bed, which is rich in archarological artifacts, is ca. 500 ka. These results have broad implications in understanding late Acheulean archaeology in Ethiopia.
