This study deployed acoustic telemetry at the Fox River Navigational System Authority (FRNSA) in lock #2 and the upstream and downstream pools in Kaukauna, WI to document movements and behavior of telemetered fish species in response to injection of carbon dioxide. Telemetry equipment was setup in the test area for approximately 2 months during the summer of 2019. CSV metadata includes telemetry data with position estimates for fish during this time.

These BioLake raster data provide global estimates (~10.0 x 12.4 km resolution) of twelve bioclimatic variables based on estimated lake temperature. Eleven of these twelve variables (BioLake01 - BioLake11) are estimated for each of three lake strata: lake mix (surface) layer, lake bottom, and total lake water column. These eleven variables correspond to CHELSA (Climatologies at high resolution for the earth's land surface areas) bioclimatic variables BIO1 - BIO11, except that these BioLake variables are based on lake water temperature and CHELSA BIO1 - BIO11 variables are based on air temperature. CHELSA BIO is also calculated a finer spatial resolution (~1 x 1 km). The twelfth variable (BioLake20; months with non-zero...

These data were collected to support the development of detection and classification algorithms to support Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) studies and assessments associated with offshore wind energy production. There are 3 child zip files included in this data release. 01_Codebase.zip contains a codebase for using deep learning to filter images based on the probability of any bird occurrence. It includes instructions and files necessary for training, validating, and testing a machine learning detection algorithm. 02_Imagery.zip contains imagery that were collected using a Partenavia P68 fixed-wing airplane using a PhaseOne iXU-R 180 forward motion compensating 80-megapixel digital frame camera with...

The U.S. Geological Survey's Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC) has created high-resolution land cover/use data sets for the Upper Mississippi River System (UMRS) from 1:15,000-scale color infrared aerial photos. These data have been used to create a variety of products, one of which is a data set used to classify aquatic areas. The 1989 and 1991 aquatic areas data sets were created by first generalizing the available land cover/use data into a land/water data set, then reinterpreting the aerial photography within the areas classified as water to determine the type of aquatic area. Area coverage for this data set is the Upper Mississippi River between Minneapolis, MN and Cairo, IL, and the Illinois...
The U.S. Geological Survey's Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC) has created high-resolution land cover/use data sets for the Upper Mississippi River System (UMRS). Aerial images of Pools 1-13 Upper Mississippi River System and Pools, Alton-Marseilles, Illinois River were collected in color infrared (CIR) in August of 2010 at 8”/pixel and 16”/pixel respectively using a mapping-grade Applanix DSS 439 digital aerial camera. In August 2011, CIR aerial images of Pools 14-Open River South, Upper Mississippi River and Pools Dresden-Lockport, Illinois River were collected at 16”/pixel with the same camera. The CIR aerial images were interpreted and automated using a 31-class LTRM vegetation classification....

The USGS Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center developed a Monarch Relevant Land Cover data set covering the area of Canada. We used the 2010 land cover data set produced by the tri-national North American Land Change Monitoring System (NALCMS) and supported by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) that depicts year 2010 land cover across North America at 30-meter spatial resolution, and incorporated additional spatially-explicit information to develop this land cover map. Additional sources of information included 2004 railroad data provided by The Atlas of Canada and the CEC, 2017 roads data provided by Statistics Canada, 2017 protected areas data provided by the CEC, and 2016 Canada provincial/territory...
This data set is associated with an administrative report submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM). The project goal was to determine the effects of hydrogen peroxide on the microflora of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). There are few aquaculture drugs approved for use in RAS and the CVM will evaluate findings from the study to determine if hydrogen peroxide would be safe to use in RAS.

This data set consists of monthly averages of soil and litter properties. Rows are grouped in the following order: year, month, vegetation type, plot ID. Within a single month five plots were sampled within each of the 2 vegetation types (10 plots total). Columns F+ represent individual measurements.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MNDNR) has been quantitatively sampling a mussel bed in West Newton Chute (a side channel in Navigation Pool 5 of the Upper Mississippi River, UMR) annually since 2008. Briefly, ~200 systematically-placed 0.25 m2 quads are sampled annually; divers excavate substrates to a depth of ~15 cm and place material into a 6 mm mesh bag. Mussels are identified to species, aged via external annuli, measured for shell length, and sexed. From 2008-2016, this mussel bed contained 12-16 live species, had densities that ranged from 4-10/m2, and juveniles (≤ 5 years old) comprised 3-18% of the assemblage. Because this assemblage was well characterized, it represented an excellent location...
Increased nutrient and sediment loading have caused observable changes in algal community composition, and thereby, altered the quality and quantity of food resources available to native freshwater mussels. Our objective was to characterize the relationship between nutrient conditions and mussel food quality and examine the effects on the fatty acid composition, growth and survival of juvenile mussels. Juvenile Lampsilis cardium and L. siliquoidea were deployed in cages for 28 d at four riverine and four lacustrine sites in the lower St. Croix River, Minnesota/Wisconsin, USA. Mussel foot tissue and food resources (four seston fractions and surficial sediment) were analyzed for quantitative fatty acid (FA) composition....

These data was collected in conjuction with Upper Mississippi River Restoration-Long Term Resource Monitoring (UMRR-LTRM) element data. The goal of this data collection was to assess age structure of smallmouth buffalo Ictiobus bubalus in the Upper Mississippi River system. Through ongoing UMRR-LTRM efforts, we collected fish with a goal 10 smallmouth buffalo from 20mm length groups, beginning at 100mm of total length. Upon collection fish were measured, weighed and frozen, then transported to the Illinois River Biological Station in Havana Illinois. Upon completion of fish collection, fish were thawed and both lapillus otoliths were removed and a sex determination was made via visual inspection of the gonads. Lapillus...
