Fluvial Fish Native Distributions for the Conterminous United States using the NHDPlusV2.1 and Boosted Regression Tree (BRT) Models

This USGS data release documents species distribution models for 271 fluvial fish species in their native ranges of the conterminous United States. Source data, supporting code and model results are documented in this data package. Boosted Regression Tree (BRT) models were used to develop presence/absence predictions for each of the National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version 2.1 stream segments within a species' native range. The predictions provided can be linked to the NHDPlusV2.1 geospatial dataset through the COMID to create a spatial depiction of the models. Coarse Range Maps for Fish Species in the Conterminous United States using HUC8s

This USGS data release documents coarse ranges for 123 fish species in the conterminous United States for level 8 hydrologic units from the Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD). These range maps were derived by combining known fish occurrence information from four data sources: point occurrences from the Aquatic Gap Analysis Project (AGAP) fish database, point occurrences from the IchthyMaps dataset, point occurrences from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), and HUC-8 level range maps developed by NatureServe. Compilation of cost estimates for dam removal projects in the United States

This dataset provides cost estimates for 668 dam removal projects occurring in the United States. Cost estimates were obtained by searching the internet for sources of information that mention the cost of dam removal projects listed in the USGS Dam Removal Information Portal. When cost data were not available for a dam removal but contact information was, then personal communications were used to acquire additional cost information. The accuracy of estimates is not known but we assume that most estimates represent close to the total cost or the minimum financial cost, with overestimates being rare. National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) 2010 Community Fish Data

This geodatabase contains a comparable set of community fish samples from 12 sources, spanning the conterminous United States. The data were compiled through efforts of Michigan State University for the 2010 National Fish Habitat Action Plan (NFHAP) and with support from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Aquatic GAP Program. Dam Metrics Representing Stream Fragmentation and Flow Alteration for the Conterminous United States Linked to the NHDPLUSV2.1

This USGS data release includes a comma separated value (CSV) file that contains 19 reach-based dam metrics representing stream fragmentation and flow alteration for nearly 2.3 million stream reaches in the conterminous United States. Dam metrics fall into three main categories: count and density, distance-based, and cumulative reservoir storage (described below). These data were developed using spatially verified large dam locations (n=49,140) primarily from the National Anthropogenic Barrier Dataset (NABD) 2012 that were spatially linked to the National Hydrography Dataset Plus version 2.1 (NHDPlusV2.1). Waterfalls and Rapids in the Conterminous United States Linked to the National Hydrography Datasets V2.0

This GeoJSON dataset contains information about 10780 waterfall and 1080 rapid locations (referred to as falls throughout the metadata) and characteristics (e.g. type and height) for the conterminous United States. This dataset centralizes known information about falls while providing basic quality control (i.e. resolving duplicate records and spatial accuracy checks) and linkages to stream networks intended to facilitate stream network analyses. Hawaii Waterfalls Linked to the National Hydrography Datasets

This dataset contains information about waterfall locations and estimated waterfall heights on five of the main Hawaiian Islands including Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, and Hawaii. Initial spatial information was gathered from the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), the Hawaii Statewide GIS Program, and the World Waterfall Database. Where image quality permitted, the coordinates and spatial attributes from source data were used to verify and improve the quality of waterfall locations using Google Earth Pro (Google Inc. 2017)and the USGS HydroLink Tool.
