This data release contains the results from a study that characterized the concentration and quality of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the McKenzie River, a relatively pristine watershed in western Oregon, and its link to forming disinfection by-products (DBPs) in treated drinking water. The study aimed to identify the primary source(s) of DOC in source water for the Eugene Water and Electric Board’s (EWEB) conventional treatment plant on the McKenzie River near river mile 11, upstream of Hayden Bridge. The two classes of regulated compounds examined—trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs)—form when organic carbon in raw source water reacts with chlorine and (or) bromine during water treatment. The...

This dataset contains morphological information for Ciscoes (Coregonus, subgenus Leucichthys) collected from the Great Lakes as part of the "Great Lakes Cisco Project". The project was initiated in 1950 by Stanford H. Smith, who was a Fishery Research Biologist in the then U.S. Bureau of Commercial Fisheries. The dataset includes 16 morphometrics (linear measurements) and one meristic (count of gill rakers) for Ciscoes, together with biological data (i.e., length, weight, sex, and maturity), sampling location, and date of collection. Consult Koelz (1929) and the "Morphology of Ciscoes" section in Eshenroder et al. (2016) for descriptions of how measurements and counts were made in the then "Ann Arbor Laboratory"...
This dataset includes two folders of spatial data associated with the Grand River. The folder Grand_River includes five files: 1) The portion of the Ontario Integrated Hydrology Dataset Enchanced Watercouse in the river watershed, 2) the location of the study sites, 3) the delineated valley segments on the river mainstem, 4) the valley segment boundary locations, and 5) the watershed outline boundary. The folder Grand_SiteCAT includes the upstream catchment area for each study site.

This dataset is from a precipitation manipulation experiment conducted at five grassland sites along an elevation gradient near Flagstaff, AZ. The data consist of pre- (1991 - 2015) and post-experimental (2016) treatment plant production and precipitation measurements. The plant production measurements were taken from satellite and hand-held spectroradiometer, in addition to plot-based harvests at the end of growing season.
The Great Lakes Research Vessel Catch (RVCAT) database is managed at the Great Lakes Science Center (GLSC). RVCAT has been used as the primary data collection tool aboard the GLSC’s research vessel operations across the Great Lakes. Content: The data set has been collected on various vessel operations on all the Great Lakes and select connecting waterways between the years 1930-2021. Data collection begins in early spring and ends in late fall. Each vessel operation was completed for a specific purpose, or target mission. Data Structure: These data are collected at the GLSC in the RVCAT Oracle database. This database has been broken down into comma separated value (csv) spreadsheets in order to facilitate greater...

These data contain morphometric measurements collected on the left side of Cisco (Coregonus artedi) collected from Lake Ontario in 2018. Measurements were obtained by two methods, first by direct measurements made on the thawed specimens using a hand caliper by one person, then using a digital image technique. The digital image measurements were completed by two different measurers to evaluate how reproducible measurements extracted from digital images were between the two measurers.

Data were collected to determine the abundance of nitrogen-fixing microorganisms in Cladophora algae growing on rocks, breakwall structures, or submerged dreissenid mussel beds around southern Lake Michigan. Cladophora samples (N=33) were collected between June and September 2015 from three urban areas: (a) Jeorse Park, East Chicago, Indiana, (b) Calumet Beach, Chicago, Illinois, and (c) North Beach, Racine, Wisconsin, and a National Park site, Portage Lakefront, Indiana Dunes National Park, Indiana. Corresponding lake water samples (N=33) were collected approximately 15-20 feet away from submerged algal mats. Genomic DNA was extracted from water and processed algal samples. The abundance of nitrogen-fixing microorganisms...

Acoustic telemetry is a popular tool for the study of fish spatial ecology. In acoustic telemetry, fish are captured, surgically implanted with an acoustic transmitter or ‘tag’, and then released back into the environment. Networks of autonomous, stationary receivers then are used to track the movements of tagged individuals over long periods of time (> 1 year). Each acoustic receiver records the date, time, and unique transmitter code (or ID) for each acoustic tag detection. This data set contains detection data for 282 acoustic-tagged lake sturgeon that were captured and released into the Detroit River, St. Clair River, and Lake Huron between 2011 and 2015. Movements of acoustic-tagged individuals were tracked...
