This shapefile contains landscape factors representing human disturbances summarized to local and network catchments of river reaches for the state of New Mexico. This dataset is the result of clipping the feature class 'NFHAP 2010 HCI Scores and Human Disturbance Data for the Conterminous United States linked to NHDPLUSV1.gdb' to the state boundary of New Mexico. Landscape factors include land uses, population density, roads, dams, mines, and point-source pollution sites. The source datasets that were compiled and attributed to catchments were identified as being: (1) meaningful for assessing fish habitat; (2) consistent across the entire study area in the way that they were assembled; (3) representative of conditions...

We developed and tested a new method for in situ characterization and distribution of inorganic particles in biopsied lung tissue from three diverse human subject groups using field emission scanning electron microscopy with an energy dispersive analyzer. Secondary and backscattered electron images were acquired to document the size and location of inorganic particulate matter in areas of lung tissue biopsy sections.

A survey of public honey bee sequence data was performed to detect infections by Lake Sinai Virus (LSV). The Sequence Read Archive of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) was queried to identify accessions of RNA sequence data derived from honey bee. These were filtered as described below and then up to 50 million reads or read pairs were downloaded and searched against a reference database of conserved LSV sequence. Accessions with matches above a specified threshold were downloaded in their entirety and assembled into longer contiguous sequences (contigs). The result contigs were searched against each open reading frame (ORF) of the reference LSV genome present in the NCBI database (accession...

These data were compiled to demonstrate new predictive mapping approaches and provide comprehensive gridded 30-meter resolution soil property maps for the Colorado River Basin above Hoover Dam. Random forest models related environmental raster layers representing soil forming factors with field samples to render predictive maps that interpolate between sample locations. Maps represented soil pH, texture fractions (sand, silt clay, fine sand, very fine sand), rock, electrical conductivity (ec), gypsum, CaCO3, sodium adsorption ratio (sar), available water capacity (awc), bulk density (dbovendry), erodibility (kwfact), and organic matter (om) at 7 depths (0, 5, 15, 30, 60, 100, and 200 cm) as well as depth to restrictive...

Here we compare pollen identification results derived from light microscopy and DNA sequencing techniques of a robust number of samples collected from honey bee colonies embedded within intensive agricultural landscapes in the Northern Great Plains. We collected pollen samples from colonies within 6 apiaries in 2010 and 2011. For each pollen sample, we identified pollen grains via light microscopy and provide the number of grain counts-per-million. A separate aliquot of each pollen sample subjected to light microscope identification was also used for DNA sequencing analysis. We provide the plant operational taxonomic unit (OTU) for all base pair reads as the number of reads-per-million.

The dataset includes 492 digitized prints of large-format photographs from 160 viewpoints. A separate metadata file "Photographs Showing Change in Riparian Vegetation in the Grand Canyon, 1889-2012" describes a comma-delimited file of descriptive information. The viewpoints were first photographed by Stanton in 1889, and then re-photographed in about 1991, 2010 and sometimes other years. This set of photos focuses on change in riparian vegetation and partially overlaps a larger set of Stanton viewpoints re-photographed by Webb and others and available at http://wwwpaztcn.wr.usgs.gov/fscc/stanton-repeat-photography/index.php. The file of descriptive information gives viewpoint stake number, name, and river mile,...

These operational land imager (OLI) value added data sets, maps, and associated ancillary data were compiled as part of an ongoing research aimed at quantifying the riparian vegetation greenness and water use in the lower Colorado River Delta in Mexico. In order to create trend and anomaly maps that characterize these ecosystems Vegetation Index (NDVI) time series imagery from Landsat OLI were acquired and processed over time and space along seven predefined reaches that capture different natural states and management conditions. We used Landsat OLI 30m data as an improvement upon past studies that were based on coarser remote sensing data from the NASA MODIS sensor (250 m). The OLI 30m images provide better characterization...

These data were compiled to investigate differentiation in physiological activity varies through time for different functional groups. These include the seasonal progress of 13 plant species representing perennial C3 shrub, C3 grass, C4 grass, and annual forb functional groups of the Colorado Plateau, USA. These data can be used to test for differences in carbon assimilation strategies (SeasonalEcophyAciData) and how photosynthetic rates related to climate (SeasonalEcophyMonthlyData). Data can be arranged at the seasonal, annual, species-, or functional group-levels to compare multi-level processes.

These data were compiled to investigate the demographic, phylogeographic, and adaptation history of Hilaria jamesii. The data release consists of three tab delimited text files that may be used to infer population structure or putative adaptive loci (hija_adaptation_dataset.stru), relationships among sampling localities (hija_phylogeny_dataset.phylip), or genetic diversity statistics (hija_diversity_stats.vcf). All files record genetic variation on an individual (.stru and .vcf) or sampling locality (.phylip) level. The .vcf file contains all of the information contained in the other files, but the file structures vary based on the programs used for analysis. These files may be opened and edited in a text editor...

These data were compiled for evaluating river-reach level plant water use, or evapotranspiration (ET), and vegetation greenness, or Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), in the riparian corridor of the Colorado River delta as specified under Minute 319 of the 1944 Water Treaty. The seven reach areas from the Northerly International Boundary (NIB) to the end of the delta at the Sea of Cortez were defined for research activities. Also, these seven reaches are being monitored under Minute 323 of the 1944 Water Treaty. Additionally, these data were compiled for evaluating restoration-level evapotranspiration and vegetation greenness data in Reach 2 and Reach 4, as specified under Minute 323 of the 1944 Water...

These tabular data were compiled to estimate abundance from paired physical capture and antenna detection data in closed, open, and robust design mark-recapture models. These data represent humpback chub capture histories in the Little Colorado River (LCR) and in the juvenile chub monitoring (JCM) reach of the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, Arizona. The dataset includes multistate capture histories that describe both physical captures and antenna detections. The 'LCR chub' dataset was collected from long-term monitoring efforts by the US Fish and Wildlife Service in the lower 13.56 river km of the LCR (2009-2020), as well as a summer sampling trip conducted by US Geological Survey (2013-2020). Also, the LCR...

A Coupled Hydrosphere Atmosphere Research Model was developed that predicted vertical water temperature profiles, ice cover, and precipitation within 40-km grids and lake levels for Lake Michigan between 2058 and 2066. In this data set, daily predicted water temperature profiles are summarized for four regions in Lake Michigan (north: North of 45 degrees 20 minutes N; central: between 43 degrees 30 minutes N and 45 degrees 20 minutes N; south: south of 43 degrees 30 minutes N; south-shallow: only areas less than <40 m bottom depth and south of 43 degrees 30 minutes N). Model output was driven by the Canadian CRCM3 GCM and assumed SRES A2 scenario greenhouse gas concentrations.

The Species Richness Maps included here are based on the Gap Analysis Project (GAP) habitat maps, which are predictions of the spatial distribution of suitable environmental and land cover conditions within the United States for individual species. Individual species habitat distribution models were summed to create the total richness for each vertebrate taxa. The summing process was coded in Python 2.7 and employed the arcpy module for geoprocessing steps. The code is documented in the log file which is included in the Sciencebase item along with the richness data for each taxa (See processing steps for file names and sciencebase urls). Mapped habitat distribution areas represent places where the environment is...
