View of bluff beside Lincoln Highway just north of Loveland. Boyer River formerly flowed at base with dam and mill. Section consists of: (1) Buff loess, shells abundant at least in lower part; (2) Reddish denser clay, (Shimek's "Loveland joint clay") non-laminated, contains large calcium-carbonate concretions and, in lower part, scattered small pebbles (may be an older loess); (3) Kansan glacial till, dense hard jointed, rusty, gray, calcareous till. Joint cracks filled with calcium-carbonate and bordered by rusty brown band on each side. Lower part of bluff now covered with talus where B. Shimek saw "Aftonian gravel." (See GSA Bulletin 20, Plate 37.) Pottawattamie County, Iowa. No date.
