Collection includes cores extracted over decades by mineral exploration firms as they completed their Maine work or otherwise released their data, covering both public and private lands that were the subject of mineral exploration. These records represent the best public collection of the major mineral exploration efforts of the 1960s-1980s. This collection of 595 scanned core records is accessible through a Google Earth application. Please contact the Maine Geological Survey to discuss access to the collection.

This collection is comprised of digital, slide and print photographs taken during minerals related field projects from 1970-2020. There are approximately 35,800 photos and slides that need to be culled, documented and archived. 81% of the photos are in digital format and most need to be manually matched with their locations from geologists’ field notes, although a small percentage have locations and descriptions that could easily be archived. Hand specimens of rocks collected in and around Marathon County as part of a bedrock mapping project in the 1970s and 1980s. Specimens were collected by P.E. Myers and UW-Oshkosh geologist Gene LaBerge as part of the field work supporting WGNHS publication Information Circular 45: Precambrian Geology of Marathon County, 1983. The collection consists of about 1500 specimens taken from approximately 580 outcrop locations.
