This collection consists of eastern screech owls that were hatched at the Eastern Ecological Science Center (EESC) for research purposes. They are no longer needed for USGS research purposes, so they have been transferred to the Goshawk Society. All of the owls have lived their lives in captivity and cannot be released to the wild. They are full winged, captive bred, and parent-reared, so they are not habituated to people other than brief contact for feeding. There are 14 female owls and 22 male owls in the collection, with ages ranging from hatch year 2006 to 2021. The owls were transfered to the Goshawk Society in two groups. The first group consisted of 8 males, ages of hatch year 2010, 2011, and six 2021, with...

Dataset contains point data describing the results of 1-channel and 12-channel seismic refraction studies mapped at a scale of 1:24,000, from the Maine Geological Survey. The results include the depth to the water and depth to the bedrock. Links are also provided, when available, to the profile graphs for the seismic line.

This collection consists of samples with age data and associated information for available radiometric dates for rocks and minerals in Alaska. The sample records and their associated publications were loaded into the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys division-wide database. A legacy Microsoft Access database exists that includes dates for all available U-Pb, K-Ar, 40Ar/39Ar, and Rb-Sr data for Alaska through 2007. Previous compilations by Wilson and others (1990) and U.S. Geological Survey (1999) provided the initial source of age data. Additional radiometric dates were compiled from both published and unpublished sources. This legacy project added essential basic supporting information that...

This collection is comprised of oil- and gas-related well cores and cuttings from wells drilled to either test for the presence of liquid or gas fossil fuels, examine subsurface stratigraphy and structures, or to produce liquid or gas fossil fuels. All well data in the Alaska Geologic Materials Center (GMC) database represents both exploration and production wells. Core has been donated by oil and gas exploration companies as well as state and federal agencies. This oil and gas related sample collection includes core, core chip, side wall core, cuttings, and unwashed cutting samples as well as oil and gas related surface and shot-hole samples.

This sample collection consists of a 1997 donation from the Shell Oil Company to the Alaska Geological Materials Center. It contains approximately 68,000 samples of following types: dart (short seafloor cores), seismic shothole, outcrop, and megafossils. 80% of the collection are outcrop samples. 5 percent of the collection has been inventoried with specific locations. Most of the collection is in good shape though many megafossil sample bags need to be replaced. The remainder of the collection will be inventoried in a future data preservation project

Donation from Homestake Company of New Mexico geological data. Items include maps, assays, geological company reports, and legal documents.
Historically, the Legacy Core and Cuttings Collection (LCCC) is the principal compilation of NCGS’s borehole records. This is an electronic compilation of pre-1988, onshore holdings that documents core, cuttings and well logs for 875 borehole records. Hoffman and Nickerson (1988) provide an explanation of how this data was compiled and organized into an early database that was eventually migrated by J.G. Nickerson to an ARCGIS geodatabase. The database’s 875 borehole records are categorized as: 1) WELLDATA, 2) OILTEST, 3) TRIASSIC, and HARDROCK. WELLDATA includes borehole records for domestic, municipal, and industrial water wells; mineral exploration core holes and stratigraphic tests. OILTEST includes records...
Collection includes county, PLSS, Latitude, Longitude, operator, well number, sample type, formation, footages from and to, comments, author that cited the sample, and whether the well information has been scanned.

The Charles Sandberg Conodont Collection represents over 50 years of seminal research on the taxa (species and subspecies), zonation, biofacies, localities, and distribution of Devonian/Carboniferous-age conodonts in the U.S. and around the world. This collection is extensive, very-well documented and is particularly important for reconstructing the biostratigraphy and palaeogeography of the Paleozoic Era. The collection also includes books, notes, and other reference materials associated with Dr. Sandberg's research. Additionally, the collection is supported by a 4th Dimension database (in need of conversion and updating), that provides managed access to the collection and tabular content collected as part of Dr....
This collection contains rock samples collected in the 1980s to support USGS research regarding mineral deposits in the Challis Volcanic Field in Idaho. This research is described in USGS Bulletin 1658-A-S (McIntyre, 1983). Samples are stored in two cardboard boxes on a wood pallet.
GIS data collected from map plates within Colorado Geological Survey MS -17 Inventory of Nonmetallic Mining and Processing Operations in Colorado. The GIS dataset includes full metadata, the new shapefiles, and a layer file with symbology for ArcGIS. Also included is a 2022 Excel spreadsheet of all entries. The original report includes seventeen plates and text of locations of pits, quarries, and industrial minerals operations and processing plants of nonmetallic mining in Colorado. Covers: Vernal, Grand Junction, Moab, Cortez, Craig, Leadville, Montrose, Durango, Greeley, Denver, Pueblo, Trinidad, Sterling, Limon, Lamar, La Junta, Front Range Corridor and Southwest Pueblo.
This collection contains unpublished hand drawn geologic maps, field maps, traverse maps, sample location maps, and cross sections of the area around Littleton, New Hampshire and adjacent Vermont. The maps were created by Douglas W. Rankin between 1992 and 2014 (date is indicated if known) and were scanned in 2016. Most maps use a 7.5-minute topographic quadrangle as a base. Some compiled maps of larger areas are a composite of several 7.5-minute quadrangle maps and latitude and longitude values are indicated on the map. Please contact the Eastern Geology and Paleoclimate Science Center for additional information and access to original copies.
Dependable access to critical minerals information is vital to ensuring the continued domestic security and economic prosperity of the United States. At present, Alabama has known deposits, prospects, and occurrences of at least 21 of these commodities, including aluminum, arsenic, barium, beryllium, chromium, cobalt, fluorite, graphite, lithium, magnesium, manganese, platinum group metals (PGMs), rare earth elements (REEs), tantalum, tin, thorium, titanium, uranium, vanadium, zinc, and zirconium; but may have as many 31, including potential occurrences of gallium, germanium, hafnium, indium, lanthanum, nickel, niobium, rhenium, selenium, and yttrium. Although none of these commodities are currently being produced...
