The Rock Core Repository consists of drill cores from across the Commonwealth of Virginia. These cores were drilled as part of mineral and fossil fuel exploration activities, geotechnical engineering work, geological investigations, and environmental work conducted by industry, government and academia. Most of the cores were donated to DMME. The physical cores are stored in the DMME ASF building adjacent to the Natural Resources building in Charlottesville, VA. The overall condition of the collection is good, with the majority of the cores stored in wooden, metal, or cardboard core boxes. Some of the core has associated drill logs and chemical analysis available. Some of the drill logs are scanned. Some of the...

Collection includes historical geological state bedrock compilation maps managed by the Connecticut Geological Survey. Please contact the Connecticut Geological Survey to discuss access to the collection.
The Stope Books preserve detailed maps of underground workings from 1893 to 1974 on the Butte Hill (“The Richest Hill on Earth”).
The Indiana Geological and Water Survey Reference Library is a more than 2,000 volume non-lending resource open to the public during normal business hours. The library contains copies of IGWS publications as well as external publications covering broader geological topics that apply to the Indiana region.

Over 61,000 Minnesota Geological Survey gravity station represents more than 40 years of surveying. The 2003 release added over 2000 stations relative to its 1991 predecessor as a result of ongoing project work, along with inclusion of additional archival data. Ongoing augmentation of the database is based on measurements at stations on profiles spaced at 0.25 mile intervals along corridors, to areas where stations are spaced at 0.5 to 1.0 mile intervals, and in some areas 2 miles, along available roads and trails. Most of the new measurements were taken with a Lacoste and Romberg G-320 gravity meter with a stated precision of 0.01 milligal. As a result of various error sources, gravity values are considered precise...

Minnesota Geological Survey is working with partners to build a statewide, consistent, standardized, and documented geochemical database, due to the convergence of: 1) systematic sampling & analysis of soils and stream sediments by the USGS & the MGS; 2) completion of a statewide till geochemical survey by MGS in cooperation with industry, and 3) renewed efforts by Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) to ensure optimal usability of their state ground-water chemistry data. The soil/sediment data are distributed statewide, were collected over a short period of time, and samples from each project were analyzed by the individual labs following consistent and documented protocols, while the MPCA water analyses were...
An FY17 NGGDPP grant funded a demolition project to rescue of 1952+ core boxes from a collapsed building, the Cary Annex. This update on the status of the Legacy Core and Cuttings Collection (LCCC) helps compile the interim results of an inventory of 781 of the 1952+ rescued boxes, partly funded by an FY21 NGGDPP grant. As a result of the inventory, 504 core boxes were identified that are associated with 42 original borehole records in the LCCC. For the same borehole records, 367 core boxes remain palletized in conexes, or were damaged or lost. All of the core boxes were damaged and likely need reboxing; 120 were reboxed by NCGS staff. Some of the core boxes have partial losses of core lengths; some material is...

This collection of maps mostly includes information published and compiled from the 1920s to the late 1940s, with outliers originating from the late 1800s to the early 1990s and shows information that is pertinent to the Arkansas Geological Survey. The map collection contains topographic field maps, hand drawn cross sections, geologic field maps.

The Florida Geological Survey maintains a collection of over 8,000 outcrop samples, mineral specimens, and manufacturing products from Florida. These samples are part of a large collection referred to as the "M-Series," which also includes 400 specimens from out-of-state. The M-Series is particularly valuable given Florida's high rate of growth and development. Surface exposures of critical lithologies have become inaccessible with the continued proliferation of roadways, shopping centers, parking lots and high-rise housing. The collection is housed in cardboard boxes and stored on rolling shelving units. Currently, work is being done to correlate these specimens to unique geologic exposure locations throughout...

This is a collection of core boxes which currently reside at the PaGS core storage facility in Hollywood, pa. and at Racoon Creek State Park. There are at leat several hundreds of core boxes remaining at the Hollywood facility.unit of measurement is core boxthe accessability and physical condition of this collection will improve once it is moved to the basement core library of the PaGS and incorporated into the rest of the core collection present there. There are approximately 101 core boxes at the Racoon Creek location.

The collection of auger or soil samples consists of 3,300 boxes of glass jars. Boxes contain either 12, one quart jars or 24, pint-sized jars. This collection of auger or soil samples was obtained from various drilling projects of the Massachusetts Highway Department (MHD), involving the construction of bridges, highways, retaining walls and buildings, throughout the state. As with the rock core collection, the soil sample collection needs more space, in a new location (non-flood zone) and an upgraded storage facility. In addition, information and data on the collections needs to be incorporated into a database with internet access.

510 items containing an unknown number of pages of mostly reports and maps. Years ago, this collection was part of the Mining District Files. It was separated out to create a collection of items that cover areas, while the Mining District Files in general were to be for points such as individual mines, claims, deposits, and the like. The media is mainly paper, linen, vellum, and mylar. The collection is divided up into the State of Nevada, 1' by 1' quadrangles, and counties. This collection will eventually be reintegrated into the Mining District Files. Nevada Geology File The collection is indexed by typed and handwritten notes in a binder. It will eventually be reintegrated back into the Mining District Files,...
