The Connecticut Surficial Materials and Quaternary Geology Quadrangle information was initially compiled at 1:24,000 scale (1 inch = 2,000 feet) then recompiled for 2 statewide 1:125,000-scale maps. (1) Surficial Materials Quadrangle Map of Connecticut by Stone, J.R., Schafer, J.P., London, E.H. and Thompson, W.B., 1992, U.S. Geological Survey, 2 sheets, scale 1:125,000. (PDF, 26 Mb). (2) Quaternary Geologic Map of Connecticut and Long Island Sound Basin by Stone, J.R., Schafer, J.P., London, E.H., DiGiacomo-Cohen, M.L., Lewis, R.L., and Thompson, W.B., 2005, U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigation Map 2784, 2 sheets, scale 1:125,000, and pamphlet, 71 p.(PDF, 56 Mb). These Connecticut Quaternary and Surficial...
American Metal Climax, Inc. (AMAX) added coal production to its diverse mining, metals, and energy concerns on November 1,1969 through a mutually approved merger with Ayrshire Collieries Corporation of Indiana. Ayrshire boasted a long and productive lineage, originating with the first mines established by Scottish immigrant, David Ingle, in the early 1850s near Evansville, Indiana. The Ayrshire name persisted through subsequent purchases of mine shafts by Electric Shovel Coal Corporation in 1927 and a merger with the Patoka Coal Company in 1939, but was rebranded as AMAX Coal Company on January 1, 1972. It became America's third-largest coal producer by 1975. Drilling records in this collection relate to the company's...
40 bedrock samples were collected from surface outcrops in Vermont. Samples are the same set as those analyzed for thermal conductivity as part of the National Geothermal Data System program. All analyses were done at AcmeLabs, Canada. Samples were analyzed using ICP – ES (emission spectroscopy) and ICP-MS (mass spectrometry). 11 major elements plus Ni and Sc were analyzed by ICP-ES following a lithium borate fusion and dilute acid digestion. Analyses include Loss on ignition (LOI) and Leco analysis for total carbon and sulphur. A 45 element suite of trace elements was analyzed using ICP-MS (mass spec). Rare earth elements and refractory elements report from a lithium borate decomposition to give total abundances....

Geoscientific collections managed by Tennessee Geological Survey are aggregated in the National Digital Catalog to enhance discovery and use of valuable samples and data for further scientific research. Contact information and material access instructions are provided for the individual collections. Please note that all of the downloadable files are in .csv format, and some use the pipe symbol (|) as the delimeter instead of a comma (,).

This collection includes paper originals and photocopies of reports beginning in 1936, and PDF scans of these reports, up to 1995. In more recent years, this information is available from the Wisconsin DNR via a computer database. Materials are arranged by county and PLSS locations. There are 326,385 well construction reports in this collection.

The Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology (MBMG) Mining Property File collection was amassed over the years through private and industry donations of engineering and geologic reports, pictures, correspondence, news clippings, and production information. The collection presently contains over 4,400 property-specific files (records). The physical files are organized first by Montana county and then by mine or project name. Files may contain information related to a particular mining claim, a collection of claims, or a mining exploration project. Metadata describing each record includes property name, location (county, historical mining district, township, range and section), georeferences (latitude and longitude), and...

Continuous bedrock core from about 50 sites across CT. Stored in 1100 boxes. This collection has been rescued three times since its formation in the late 1980's. Formerly administrative responsibility was shared between the University of Connecticut Dept. of Geology and Geophysics (now disbanded) and the Dept. of Environmental Protection, Geological and Natural History Survey. The State Survey now houses the collection and is the sole administrator.

The collection comprises the Arizona mineral exploration files (mostly for gold and copper) of Cambior Exploration USA Inc. The collection also includes information from acquired companies Westmont Mining and Nicor Mineral Ventures Inc. It contains exploration data as well as submittal information gathered during the 1980s through 1999. Data was not received for some of the company’s major projects during the period, for example Newsboy and Carlota.

Richard (Dick) Hahman was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1936. He grew up in coal mining towns in Pennsylvania, then later in Washington, D.C. He received his master's in geology from the University of West Virginia. His career took him through the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Chile. He worked for several companies in Tucson, Arizona, before going to work for Conoco Inc. in Oklahoma City in the early 1980s. In the late '80s he started his consulting company, Hahman & Associates, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He moved back to Tucson around 1997. The collection contains geologic reports, drill logs, maps, assays, photos and field notes from exploration in Arizona and New Mexico.

This collection is comprised of digital, slide and print photographs taken during engineering geology, energy and minerals resource related field projects from 1970-2020. These photos document field sites, geologic features, landscapes and landforms from the various areas of Alaska. There are collections specific to each of the Division's sections that document the effort needed to complete the culling and documentation of exisiting photos. As of 2020, DGGS has cataloged 19,724 photos, with 12,813 available to the public. Only those photos with location information are available within the National Digital Catalog

Approximately 55,000 water well records are available in the Pennsylvania GroundWater Information System (PaGWIS). The digital system includes basic well information and an image of the well paper record. Basic data include county, municipality, well owner, driller, and date drilled, which are searchable attributes of the database. Additional information is included in the well report image file. Locations for about 6,550 well records have been assigned. These well records were submitted by water drillers from 2005 to 2015. Database is available at http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/topogeo/groundwater/pagwis/index.htm.

This collection includes approximately 4,000 thin sections of rock units from across the state. There are significant Iowa-based thesis/dissertation and paleontological components. The collection includes approximately 1,200 slides for clay mineralogy of Quaternary units. The collection requires a proper database. We are hoping to incorporate into GeoSam, our overall geologic database and web outlet (https://www.iihr.uiowa.edu/igs/geosam/home).
