The Maryland Geological Survey (MGS) Drill Cuttings Collection consists of washed and unwashed cuttings from drilling sites throughout Maryland. The collection includes chips from rock drillings as well as cuttings from unconsolidated Coastal Plain sediment drilling. There are approximately 2,600 boxes (15.5” x 5.5” x 3.4”) in the collection. Each box contains between 20-50 envelopes, bags, or vials of cuttings. Thanks to U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP) grants, approximately 1,999 boxes of drill cuttings containing over 43,500 envelopes have been inventoried as of August 2021. The Drill Cuttings Collection is now primarily stored in the MGS...

Collection includes rock cores extracted during drilling operations by Knox Mining Corporation for mineral exploration in southern Maine. Drilling operations occured in townships: Appleton, Hope, Union, Waldoboro, Warren. Please contact the Maine Geological Survey to discuss access to the collection.
These web map applications make available the georeferenced digital images of the bedrock and surficial quadrangle maps published by the Maine Geological Survey at the 1:24,000, 1:62,500, 1:100,000, 1:250,000 and 1:500,000 scales.

The Borehole Database for Virginia provides information about boreholes drilled by Virginia Energy as part of on-going geologic mapping studies conducted in the Coastal Plain of Virginia. This collection is available for study and sampling by scientists, citizens, government agencies, and by industry. Virginia Energy maintains this collection to support the wise use of Virginia's resources by providing quality geologic and mineral resource information. The collection includes records for approximately 1,800 boreholes, with location information, lithologic log, and interpreted formation contacts. These boreholes were drilled for water wells, geologic research, geotechnical engineering studies, and environmental...

This collection (known internally at Maryland Geological Survey as Component 5) consists of 4,720 items – 4,715 black-and-white aerial photographs (4,688 unique frames plus 27 duplicates) and 5 associated index maps. The aerial photographs were flown or acquired by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and organized on a 7.5-minute quadrangle basis. The photographs are black-and-white and approximately 9 in. x 9 in. in size. The scale of the aerial photography varies but ranges from approximately 1:12,000 to 1:35,400. These photographs date from 1936-1991 and were donated to the Maryland Geological Survey (MGS). The index maps serve as a finding aid for several of the flight series flown over five quadrangles...
Collection of aerial photos taken during April of 1930, of the area along the Delaware River from Port Jervis, NY to Biles Island, just south of Trenton.

The Minnesota drill core repository is managed by the Department of Natural Resources, in relation to a legislated obligation to submit a one-fourth portion of core samples obtained for mineral exploration. These samples become property of the state and are stored in the DNR's drill core library, located in Hibbing. The original drill core library was constructed in 1972. The most recent additions were constructed in 1990, and were subsequently expanded in 1995. Construction presently is underway on an expansion. The existing facility contains nearly 2.3 million feet of core, extracted from 79 Minnesota counties during the period from 1905 to the present.

This document compiles the location of mineral deposits and resources in Minnesota containing commodities that were identified as critical minerals by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and Department of the Interior in their 2022 Final List of Critical Minerals.
An FY17 NGGDPP grant funded a demolition project to rescue of 1952+ core boxes from a collapsed building, the Cary Annex. The OTHER Undocumented Core Collections (OUCC) defined herein helps compile the interim results of an inventory of 781 of the 1952+ rescued boxes, funded by an FY21 NGGDPP grant. As a result of the inventory, 277 core boxes were identified that are associated with 63 new, previously undocumented boreholes. All of the boxes were damaged and likely need reboxing; 85 were reboxed by NCGS staff. Some of the core boxes have partial losses of core lengths; some material is weathered in situ (in the box). These collections include HARD ROCK and TRIASSIC geologic core samples. Coordinate data is not...
