This is the collection of original paper gamma-ray logs, copies and other items that are associated with the gamma-ray logs housed at the Indiana Geological Survey. They are stored in 12 file cabinets. This represents all of the original paper copies since 1978 when the collection began. Each log can be found filed in the original file, used mainly as a master file, as well as by county, the working file. The paper logs have been digitized made available to the public at https://igws.indiana.edu/borehole-logs in .las and .pdf format.

This collection consists of parts of two cores, USGS 6 and USGS 7. The cores are 3 inches in diameter, with three feet of core per box. USGS 6 has 19 boxes of a non-continuous interval, 57 feet total. USGS 7 has 1 box. The cores are halite of the Salado Formation ranging in color from clear through pink to reddish orange (Roach 1966) and are Permian in age. Depths range from 1143 ft to 1437 ft. The cores were drilled following the nuclear detonation of Project Gnome in 1961. Roach (1966; USGS Branch of Astrogeology) took slices from the cores to analyze the thermoluminescence properties of the halite and how they were affected by the nucelar blast.
In 2011, New Jersey Geological Survey (NJGS) drilled a rock core on Upper Denmark Road in Oxford Township in support of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection arsenic pollution investigation in Oxford, NJ. The rock core was used to characterize bedrock properties and determine presence of arsenic. The NJGS retains the boxes of core in 5-ft lengths, which are available for research.

The NJGWS scanned the two-volume Index to NJ Geological Survey Reports. They are an alphabetical listing of all topics in NJGS reports from 1835 to the late 1950’s included in NJGS Annual Reports and Bulletins. Volume one covers topics beginning with the letters A - K and Volume two covers topics beginning with the letters L - Z.

The NJGWS scanned and described 7 black and white paper photographs that illustrate the State’s efforts to prospect for the radioactive ore monzonite in the mid-1960s. These photographs of prospecting efforts in Chester Township provide important historical information regarding the State’s natural resource inventory. The photographs were scanned at 300 dpi using a HP ScanJet 8200 scanner and were saved as tiff files. The scanned copies were then added to the NJGWS’ digital archives which are available to the public. Each photograph was assigned a unique number for ease of identification and access in order to efficiently respond to future research requests.

Over 61,000 Minnesota Geological Survey gravity station represents more than 40 years of surveying. The 2003 release added over 2000 stations relative to its 1991 predecessor as a result of ongoing project work, along with inclusion of additional archival data. Ongoing augmentation of the database is based on measurements at stations on profiles spaced at 0.25 mile intervals along corridors, to areas where stations are spaced at 0.5 to 1.0 mile intervals, and in some areas 2 miles, along available roads and trails. Most of the new measurements were taken with a Lacoste and Romberg G-320 gravity meter with a stated precision of 0.01 milligal. As a result of various error sources, gravity values are considered precise...

Minnesota Geological Survey is working with partners to build a statewide, consistent, standardized, and documented geochemical database, due to the convergence of: 1) systematic sampling & analysis of soils and stream sediments by the USGS & the MGS; 2) completion of a statewide till geochemical survey by MGS in cooperation with industry, and 3) renewed efforts by Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) to ensure optimal usability of their state ground-water chemistry data. The soil/sediment data are distributed statewide, were collected over a short period of time, and samples from each project were analyzed by the individual labs following consistent and documented protocols, while the MPCA water analyses were...

An FY17 NGGDPP grant funded a demolition project to rescue of 1952+ core boxes from a collapsed building, the Cary Annex. This update on the status of the Legacy Core and Cuttings Collection (LCCC) helps compile the interim results of an inventory of 781 of the 1952+ rescued boxes, partly funded by an FY21 NGGDPP grant. As a result of the inventory, 504 core boxes were identified that are associated with 42 original borehole records in the LCCC. For the same borehole records, 367 core boxes remain palletized in conexes, or were damaged or lost. All of the core boxes were damaged and likely need reboxing; 120 were reboxed by NCGS staff. Some of the core boxes have partial losses of core lengths; some material is...
