The Geological Materials Repository (GMR) is home to the largest, publicly accessible USGS rock core and cuttings collection (the Core Research Center collection). In addition to the large core and cuttings collections, there are over 1,000 pallets of varied materials, from numerous Science Centers and Mission Areas, currently stored in the GMR space. A variety of samples collected for completed USGS projects are stored in the Geological Materials Repository for possible future use.
This collection includes rock cores from oil & gas exploration, public and private water wells, etc. IGS GeoCore tracks cores in the IGS Rock Library. GeoCore stores depth intervals, storage location, and high-resolution photographs for each core stored.

Geoscientific collections managed by Illinois State Geological Survey are aggregated in the National Digital Catalog to enhance discovery and use of valuable samples and data for further scientific research. Contact information and material access instructions are provided for the individual collections.
This is a collection of scanned index cards from the Bureau of Economic Geology's Core Research Center archive index. Each card represents a sample in the repository, which can be viewed by contacting the Core Research Center to arrange viewing.
This is a collection of well cores from the state of Indiana with a few from surrounding states. There are 1,084 cores filed to date at the Indiana Geological Survey. This translates into approximately 34,098 boxes and 202,744 feet of core in the building, which is at capacity. The core in this collection is variable with different diameters. Some are filed whole, halved, and quartered. Some of the cores are sawed which gives a very smooth surface as opposed to a raw surface when the core is split.

A lithologic strip log is a long paper board strip that is representative of the well cuttings produced by drilling. This is done by gluing the cuttings at the correct depth on the strip log. The logs are then filed in cabinets by section, township, and range. This extensive collection is unique to the Indiana Geological Survey. The strip can be easily viewed under the microscope. The well cuttings can be pulled to get a better look if greater detail is needed.

This series contains unpublished maps, cross- sections, and related information archived by the State Geological and Natural History Survey of Connecticut as part of the Survey Library Collection. These materials have not been reviewed for accuracy, consistency, or completeness. For many geographic areas, more current information exists, either in published or unpublished form. For the most part, these materials were developed under research and mapping agreements betweenthe State Geological Survey and individual scientists, academic institutions, or graduate students. Some of these materials have been received by the State Geological Survey as donations. The veracity of the information contained within these documents...
