Core collection is stored in two separate warehouse areas managed by the Louisiana Geological Survey. The different core types are mixed but the bulk of the collection is stored on Louisiana State University campus with limited access by appointment. The collection is estimated to include 5900 boxes. Of these boxes, 3700 contain approximately 9 feet lengths of core material. The other 2200 boxes include 3 feet lengths of rock cores.

This collection is of original (stratigraphic data) tasic sheets collected in the field which will eventually be incorporated in the larger stratigraphic data files here at the Survey.POC is Leonard Lentz. This data can represent core, strip mine highwalls, and roadcuts. The data once compiled with be incorporated in the Survey's stratigraphic data files and eventually into a digital database.
Davis Lapham's hand samples from southern Lancaster County. Serpentinites and adjacent country rock. Collected late 1950s to early 1960s. POC is Steve Shank.Collection will be catalogued.

Geophysical logs (gamma, density, electric, etc.) for wells drilled mainly for natural gas in Garrett and Allegany Counties, Maryland. The geophysical logs are paper strip charts of data throughout the depth of each well. All 337 logs have been scanned (.tif format). An out-of-print MGS report, Basic Data Report 5, Deep Wells of Maryland, has data from all deep wells in the State, including many of these Western Maryland wells.

This Collection of Non-Coal Hand Samples is quite varied and includes rock samples collected during field mapping, field investigations, and field trips; mineral samples from surface and subsurface mines and mineral prospects; fossil samples collected during field mapping and field trips; specimens used for teaching and outreach events; and specimens donated to the Survey. Some samples are the only ones available from mining sites that have since been reclaimed and from outcrops that no longer exist.

Limestone samples collected at quarries, mines, and from core in Kentucky. Samples are associated with collection sites. The overall goal of this research program was to discern relationships between carbonate lithologies, stratigraphic units, and properties such as chemistry and rock porosity. Much of the raw data collected at the sites is contained in archived field notes available on the KGS website. A map-based website was developed to disseminate sample sites, field notes, and chemical analyses for major element oxides (Ca, Mg, Al, Fe, and Si) for the samples listed here at http://kgs.uky.edu/kylimestone/.

This is a special paleontology collection, separate from the rest of the Geological Survey of Alabama paleontology collection. The fossils in the Toulmin Collection were collected, described, researched, and published on by Lyman Toulman, a Cenozoic Gulf Coastal plain paleontologist and stratigrapher. The fossils in this collection are described with photographs and stratigraphic correlations in the Geological Survey of Alabama publication Monograph 12.

These are surficial geology maps. The surficial geology maps are 1:24,000 scale detailed reconnaissance maps of unconsolidated materials overlying consolidated bedrock. For more detailed description of the map production refer to the Process_Step chapter in Metadata, written for each map.abstract from metadata. POC is Victoria NebogaMapping is as complete as the time frame allowed. Further research and revision is always possible and encouraged.
Kentucky operates its own network of seismic and strong motion devices to monitor earthquake and other seismic activity. This collection contains the historical recordings for each instrument.

This collection (known internally at Maryland Geological Survey as Component 2) consists of 505 enlargements of unrectified, black-and-white aerial photographs flown along Maryland's barrier islands during 13 different time periods (or "sets") between October 1952 and July 1964. Each of the photographs in the collection is about 2 feet x 2 feet in size. Some of the photographs have a scale of 1:14,400 or 1:6,000 stamped on the front. On the backs of many of the photographs is another stamp of "1" = 200 ft". The photographs cover the Maryland section of two narrow barrier islands that lie along Maryland's Atlantic coast, separated by the Ocean City Inlet: Fenwick Island to the north and Assateague Island to the...
