This data set portrays the land ownership polygon features in the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Colorado Plateau coal assessment study area (Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona). The data set was created by clipping a national land ownership coverage of federal land polygon features that had been extracted from the individual USGS 1:2,000,000-scale state boundary Digital Line Graph (DLG) files and then paneled into a single coverage. The original national coverage metadata document is included here and modified slightly to indicate that the geographic areal extent is that of portions of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona.

This ArcView shapefile contains a polygon representation of the Deadman coal zone in the Black Butte area of the Point of Rocks-Black Butte coalfield, Wyoming. This boundary is a part of the National Coal Resource Assessment of the Northern Rocky Mountain and Great Plains Fort Union Coal Resources Assessment Area. This coal zone can be shown in relation to other relevant themes of this area.

This ArcView shapefile contains a polygon representation of the Ashland coalfield, Montana, as defined in the USGS National Coal Resource Assessment (NCRA) project. This theme was created specifically for the National Coal Resources Assessment in the Northern Rocky Mountains and Great Plains Region.

This is a polygon coverage of isopachs of the combined thickness of the Calico and A-sequences in the Kaiparowits Plateau study area. The outside polygon defines the base of the John Henry Member of the Straight Cliffs Formation east of 112 degrees of longitude. The polygon includes areas where the Calico and A-sequences have been partially eroded. The northern boundary is delineated by the Paunsaugunt fault and volcanic rocks of Tertiary age.

The lines shown are those used by the USGS in developing the framework geology and models used in assessing the oil and gas resources of the Gulf Coast Region. The data set is comprised of both leased and borrowed company proprietary data. This dataset contains basic data and interpretations developed and compiled by the U.S. Geological Survey's Framework Studies and Assessment of the Gulf Coast Project. Other major sources of data include publicly available information from state agencies as well as publications of the U.S. Geological Survey and other scientific organizations. In cases where company proprietary data were used to produce various derivatives such as contour surfaces, the source is cited but the data...

This ArcView shapefile contains a polygon representation of mine & lease boundaries in the Point of Rocks-Black Butte coalfield in the Greater Green River Basin, Wyoming. The boundaries are a part of the National Coal Resource Assessment of the Northern Rocky Mountain and Great Plains Fort Union Coal Resources Assessment Area. The boundaries can be shown in relation to other relevant themes in the Green River Basin.

The USGS Central Region Energy Team assesses oil and gas resources of the United States. The onshore and State water areas of the United States comprise 71 provinces. Within these provinces, Total Petroleum Systems are defined and Assessment Units are defined and assessed. Each of these provinces is defined geologically, and most province boundaries are defined by major geologic changes. The Bighorn Basin Province is located in Wyoming and south central Montana. The main population centers within the study area are Cody and Thermopolis, Wyoming. The main highways, I-70 and I-90, generally traverse the area from north to south. The Bighorn River and its tributaries drain the area. The province boundary was drawn...

This shapefile includes polygons that describe U.S. Geological Survey delineated Total Petroleum Systems of northern Afghanistan. Each petroleum system is defined as a mappable entity encompassing genetically related petroleum that occurs in seeps, shows and accumulations (discovered and undiscovered) that have been generated by a pod, or by closely related pods, of mature source rock, together with the essential mappable geologic elements (source, reservoir, seal and overburden rocks) that control fundamental processes of generation, migration, entrapment and preservation of petroleum. Total petroleum systems are described by U.S. Geological Survey research scientists on the basis of exploration and production...

This is a shapefile and unioned polygon ownership coverage used to calculate coal resources of the A through D coal zones, Yampa coal field, northwestern Colorado. Polygons that have been combined include counties, 7.5' quadrangles, townships, surface and coal ownership. This ownership coverage was clipped by the largest resource boundary polygon--that of the A coal zone.
This dataset is a polygon coverage of the resource areas of the Lower Kittanning coal zone. This dataset is the digital compilation of geologic and resource maps provided mostly by State geologic surveys and depicts the projected area of occurrence of the Lower Kittanning coal bed. The Lower Kittanning coal bed is in Ohio, West Virginia, western Pennsylvania, and western Maryland and is an important economic coal bed in the northern part of the Appalachian Basin. It is of additional importance because it is one of the coal beds that has potential for coalbed methane development within the Allegheny Group throughout most of the Appalachian foreland basin in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland. This file...

The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Assessment Unit is defined within the context of the higher-level Total Petroleum System. The Assessment Unit is shown here as a geographic boundary interpreted, defined, and mapped by the geologist responsible for the province and incorporates a set of known or postulated oil and (or) gas accumulations sharing similar geologic, geographic, and temporal properties within the Total Petroleum System, such as source rock, timing, migration pathways, trapping mechanism, and hydrocarbon type. The Assessment Unit boundary is defined geologically as the limits of the geologic...
