Water surface elevations within seven Willamette River off-channel features (OCF; alcoves and side channels) were measured using submerged pressure transducers. Transducers were installed from late May through mid-October, 2016, when discharge of the Willamette River was between approximately 5,500 and 45,000 cubic feet per second at Salem, Oregon (USGS gage 14191000) and 3,500 to 17,500 cubic feet per second at Harrisburg, Oregon (USGS gage 14166000). Pressure transducer sensor depth was measured at all seven sites. For five of the sites, pressure transducer sensor depths were converted to water surface elevations by surveying the water surface at each transducer with a real-time kinematic global positioning system...
This dataset contains two-dimensional hydraulic models throughout the Willamette River, extending from the McKenzie River confluence, near Eugene, to the city of Newberg. The study reach is separated into five individual models to simplify tributary inflow boundary conditions and for run-time efficiency. These models were developed to assess juvenile salmonid habitat at streamflows ranging from typical low summer flows to roughly the median annual high flow along each reach. Steady-state streamflow conditions were simulated in an unsteady flow simulation by holding streamflow constant for longer periods of time. Underlying these models is a digital elevation model, which combines bathymetric lidar, collected in...

Water-surface elevation measurements were collected in March 2015 along the upper Willamette River, Oregon, between Eugene to Corvallis. These surveys were collected over a small range of discharges using a real time kinematic global positioning system (RTK-GPS) on a motorboat traveling "on plane" along the river. These datasets were collected for equipment calibration and validation for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite mission. This is one of multiple survey datasets that will be released for this effort.

Discrete volumetric and mid-section stream discharge measurements were conducted from July through October 2020 in H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest near Blue River, OR. The measured streams are part of the Lookout Creek basin, draining into Blue River and subsequently the McKenzie River on the west slope of the Cascade Range. ORWSC Streamflow measurements supplemented an eco-drought low-flow modeling project in partnership with the Forest and Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center (FRESC) and the USGS Water Mission Area (WMA). Measurements were collected at 25 selected sites with co-located HOBO data loggers and 7 miscellaneous (MISC) sites with no data loggers present. HOBO logger data were collected and processed...

River bathymetry surveys were collected in the summer and fall of 2016 along the lower Chetco River, Oregon. These surveys were collected using a real time kinematic global positioning system (RTK-GPS) and an echo sounder mounted on a motorboat and also behind a kayak at various cross sections and longitudinal profiles along the river. These datasets were collected in support of a funded effort investigating the cause of salt water intrusion that has taken place at the water intake facility for Harbor City, Oregon. The surveys were collected at sections approximately 0.4 river miles downstream to 0.8 river miles upstream of the Harbor City water intake structure and also at the city of Brookings water intake facility,...

Water-surface elevations were recorded by 17 submerged water level loggers between March and October, 2016 along a 3 kilometer reach of the upper Deschutes River, Oregon. 15 water level loggers were installed along the channel margins and 2 loggers were placed in off-channel wetland ponds. Submerged depths recorded at each logger were converted to water surface elevations using real-time kinematic global positioning system (RTK-GPS) measurements of water surface elevation near each water level logger location. Water surface elevation recorded at the loggers captured discharges ranging from approximately 600 to over 2,000 cubic feet/second recorded at the Bureau of Reclamation gage at Benham Falls.

In 2021, the USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) funded the collection of topo-bathymetric lidar (sometimes referred to as "green lidar") on the McKenzie River, Oregon. As part of this acquisition, lidar data were collected starting on the McKenzie River below Trail Bridge Reservoir and extending downstream roughly 125 km to its confluence with the Willamette River. Bathymetric lidar produced measurements of river bathymetry in areas of the McKenzie River channel that were generally less than 3 m in depth but did not produce measurements in deeper areas of the river. To fill the gaps in the topo-bathymetric lidar dataset (commonly referred to as "voids"), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers funded USGS to collect boat-based...

USGS met with 13 local groups and organizations around the Portland, Oregon region to collect information regarding the locations of beaver dams in the Tualatin Basin. The local sources had identified beaver dams between 2011 and 2019, and data were compiled by USGS into an ArcGIS shapefile. Often, the local groups did not know the GPS coordinates of beaver dams, but they had identified beaver-affected reaches during that same time period. Therefore, a second shapefile was created to include the locations of beaver activity (including beaver chews, lodges, and dams) in the Tualatin Basin. The Beaver Dam Locations ArcGIS shapefile shows the known locations of beaver dams in the Tualatin Basin. The Beaver Activity...

Dissolved pesticides were measured in weekly water samples from 482 wadeable streams in five regions of the United States during 2013-2017, as part of the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Regional Stream Quality Assessment (RSQA). One study was conducted each year, starting with the Midwest (2013), followed by the Southeast Piedmont (2014), Pacific Northwest (2015), Northeast (2016), and Central California Coast (2017). Within each region, 77-100 streams were sampled over 6-14 weeks, followed by ecological surveys of fish, invertebrate and fish communities. The first study (Midwest) is an agricultural-gradient study, where the majority of sites were located along a gradient from undeveloped to 100% agricultural land...

This dataset contains manually developed 5-, 10-, and 500-ft contours for the Harney Basin, Oregon aquifer system shallow and deep potentiometric-surface maps. The potentiometric-surfaces show altitude at the water-table surface (shallow) and at which the water level would have risen in tightly-cased wells deeper than 100 ft (deep) and generally represents synoptic conditions during February–March of 2018. The water-table map was developed using groundwater-level measurements from shallow wells (generally less than 100 ft deep in the lowlands) and the altitudes of springs and gaining stream reaches and constrained by the altitude of the land surface. The deeper potentiometric-surface map was developed using measurements...

These datasets are one component of the multistressor studies conducted in Midwest streams in 2013 (MSQA) and in Southeast streams in 2014 (SESQA) by the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Quality Assessment Project. High-frequency small-volume autosamplers were deployed at 7 sites each in MSQA and SESQA that collected daily and weekly composite water samples, which were analyzed for 225 pesticides and pesticide degradates. Five of the MSQA autosampler sites were in agricultural watersheds and two in urban watersheds, whereas all seven SESQA autosampler sites were in urban watersheds. The daily and weekly composite samples were compared with results from traditional discrete water samples collected weekly at...

A three-dimensional groundwater flow model, MODFLOW 6, was developed to provide a better understanding of the hydrogeology of the Harney Basin, southeastern Oregon. The model was used to investigate the historical groundwater-level decline and storage loss associated with anthropogenic groundwater demands. The model was calibrated to 1930 through 2018 conditions. This USGS data release contains all of the input and output files for the simulation described in the associated model documentation report (https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20241518)

Dissolved pesticides were measured in weekly water samples from 85 wadeable streams in Central Coastal California over a variable six-week period during March–May, 2017, as part of the California Stream Quality Assessment (CSQA) study conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Regional Stream-Quality Assessment (RSQA) Project. The 85 streams consisted of 40 urban sites (5–100% urban land in the lower basin), 9 agricultural sites, 24 mixed land-use sites, and 12 undeveloped sites. Water samples were filtered (0.7 micrometers) and analyzed for 253 pesticide compounds by direct-injection liquid chromatography with tandem mass-spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Two similar LC-MS/MS methods were used: a broad-spectrum (223...

This model archive makes available the calibrated Soil-Water-Balance (SWB) model used to simulate upland recharge from infiltration of precipitation and snowmelt in the Harney Basin, Oregon, 1982-2016. The model was calibrated using annual values of runoff, evapotranspiration, and baseflow for eight watersheds in the basin. The Harney Basin SWB model was used to create output at the scale of 1-kilometer grid cells. The simulations were used to create daily grids of potential recharge. The calibrated SWB model and its use is described in the associated U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2021–5128 (Garcia and others, 2022; https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20215128). The directory structure of the model...
