This dataset includes input and output data from streamflow and water-quality regression models used to characterize streamflow and water-quality conditions in the Upper White River Basin, Colorado, from 2000 to 2020. All input data, including discrete and continuous streamflow records and discrete concentrations of inorganic nitrogen, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus, were compiled from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Information System (NWIS) database. Input data were used in multiple models including Maintenance of Variance Extension Type 2 (MOVE.2) and Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, and Season (WRTDS) to estimate continuous streamflow records, daily concentrations and loads, and...
Burnsville Cove in Bath and Highland Counties (Virginia, USA) is a karst region in the Valley and Ridge Province of the Appalachian Mountains. The region contains many caves in Silurian to Devonian limestone, and is well suited for examining geologic controls on cave location and cave passage morphology. In Burnsville Cove, many caves are located preferentially near the axes of synclines and anticlines. For example, Butler Cave is an elongate cave where the trunk channel follows the axis of Sinking Creek syncline and most of the side passages follow joints at right angles to the syncline axis. In contrast, the Water Sinks Subway Cave, Owl Cave, and Helictite Cave have abundant maze patterns, and are located near...

This data release provides updated borehole information to build upon and further refine a three-dimensional (3-D) texture model of valley-fill deposits in the Central Valley created by Faunt and others (2009). This model aids in understanding the aquifer system of the entire valley and will be later utilized in a groundwater flow model. The original database contained approximately 8,500 boreholes and with the addition of new data, the model now contains 14,683 boreholes. The new borehole lithologic data was sourced from the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) Online System of Well Completion Reports (OSWCR) and the California Central Valley Groundwater-Surface Water Simulation Model (C2VSim). This dataset...
This digital data release presents multiple previously published elements of the structural configuration of the Black Hills regional subsurface. The original data within this geodatabase is sourced from multiple U.S. Geological Survey Open File Reports into the hydrology of the Black Hills, stored on the USGS Water Mission Area NSDI Node (Driscoll, 1992; Strobel et al., 1999; Williamson et al., 2000). Data include mapped surface exposures of faults and fold hinges, the location and depth of 1025 formation tops of the Madison Group, Minnelusa Formation, and Minnekahta Formation from water well scout tickets, isopach contours of the Madison Group and Minnelusa Formation, and structure contour maps of the top of the...

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources' (LaDNR) Strategic Online Natural Resources Information System (SONRIS) is a repository for well information that includes date of completion, well construction, geology, and water levels. Well information provided by the water well drillers during the permitting process is updated periodically by LaDNR. Well information is available in SONRIS as early as 1930 to the present. This data set consist of 20,759 well records extracted from SONRIS that were likely drilled in the Chicot aquifer system in southwestern Louisiana.
Monroe County, in southeastern West Virginia, hosts world-class karst within carbonate units of Mississippian and Ordovician age. There are at least 412 known caves in the county. Location data for these caves were collected from the West Virginia Speleological Survey (WVASS) Bulletin 22 (Dasher, 2019). Point features were created in ArcGIS Pro for each cave location and were used to make a point density raster. This raster displays the number of cave points per square kilometer.
The following report summarizes the dating results from Bradley Lake, Oregon. Within this report, we detail the methodology used by the USGS Luminescence Geochronology Laboratory to obtain ages including sample preparation methods, luminescence measurement, equivalent dose determination, and datingrelated calculations. We recommend that this report be included as the supplementary material for any publication(s) that use the ages within this report. This version supersedes all previous age estimates and reports.
The purpose of this USGS data release is to publish NC SELDM streamflow statistics and summary statistics of physical and chemical data in support of the information provided in the above-referenced report. This data release consists of two data sets, "NC SELDM streamflow statistics..." and "NC SELDM summary statistics for physical and chemical data...". The tables that are uploaded for the "NC SELDM streamflow statistics for 266 streamgages across North Carolina" sub-section are primarily the support files for the StreamStatsDB update that was completed when the report was approved. These files were generated using the GNWISQ and QSTATS computer programs developed and described by Granato (2009, appendices 1 and...

High latitude, boreal watersheds are nitrogen-limited ecosystems that export large amounts of organic carbon. Key controls on carbon cycling in these environments are the biogeochemical processes affecting the nitrogen cycle. This data release presents results of a 3-year field study from 2008-2011 to document the relation between seasonal and transport-associated changes in carbon and nitrogen pools within Nome Creek, an upland headwater tributary of the Yukon River, Alaska, and two first order tributaries to Nome Creek, West Twin Creek and East Twin Creek. Stream-water geochemistry was characterized using: a) biweekly sampling at fixed sampling stations to assess changes through the course of a summer season;...

These raster datasets are 3-meter lidar-derived images of Monroe County, West Virginia, and were created using geographic information systems (GIS) software. Lidar-derived elevation data acquired in late December of 2016 were used to create a 3-meter resolution working digital elevation model (DEM), from which a hillshade was applied and a topographic position index (TPI) raster was calculated. These two rasters were uploaded into GlobalMapper, where the TPI raster was made partially transparent and overlaid the hillshade DEM. The resulting image was exported to create a 3-meter resolution lidar-derived image. The data is projected in North America Datum (NAD) 1983 UTM Zone 17.
Stone rows, enclosures, structures and chambers can be found in the landscapes of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Structures similar to those shown in the cover photo are documented elsewhere. The age, cultural affiliation, and purpose of these stone structures--which are found in a variety of forms, such as piles arranged in spatial configurations across landscapes, shapes suggesting animal effigies, platforms and chambers--have been the subject of much debate. Some have argued they are remnants of colonial agricultural and storage practices; others that they are prehistoric Native American ceremonial structures. Ascertaining the time periods of their creation had previously been impossible. We felt that optically...
The Bureau of Reclamation's Scoggins Dam lies within the Gales Creek fault zone southwest of Hillsboro, Oregon. Recent geologic mapping shows the dam to overlie a potentially active strand of the fault. This report describes the geology of the dam in detail and confirms that the dam overlies a strand of the Gales Creek fault. The report documents small faults in the reservoir and off the north end of the dam along the Parsons Creek strand of the fault. The report further documents the geology of an alternative dam site downstream of the existing dam.

Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources Reservoir Data (1963 – 1998) was obtained from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources in 2000 and was used in a historical and potential reserve growth study completed by Mahendra Verma and Mitchell Henry, U.S. Geological Survey. It is a collection of manually entered historical oil and gas reservoir data from 1963 – 1983, and digital copies of historical oil and gas reservoir data from the period of 1984 – 1998. The database was assembled from an Excel spreadsheet initially, then normalized and formatted in Microsoft Access as three separate tables of data (saskatch_reservoir_dissolved, saskatch_reservoir_gas, saskatch_reservoir_oil) “Historical and Potential...

Summarization of US Geological Survey National Land Cover Database (NLCD) 2001, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2016 Land Cover datasets with the Spatial Hydro-Ecological Decision System (SHEDS) framework. These NLCD data were summarized using the local and upstream total accumulation methods within SHEDS. These datasets contain the area in square meters covered by each land cover class within all the land cover datasets for the local SHEDS catchments along with the area-weighted sum of the local and all upstream SHEDS catchment values. The local catchment summarizations also include the percentage of the catchment that contains land cover data for the particular class being summarized.

These DEMs were derived from 1-meter DEM tiles acquired through the USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP). The data are projected in North America Datum (NAD) 1983 (2011) UTM Zone 19N.
A time series of nutrient and mean daily discharge data were used to create models of daily concentration and loads for selected streams of the Lake Tahoe watershed. A total of 15 sites have records ranging from as early as 1972 to 2017. Nutrients in the data set include nitrate, ammonium, Kjeldahl Nitrogen, orthophosphate, and total phosphorus. Total suspended sediment concentrations are also included. Discharge data are included as mean daily values in cubic meters per second. The data were used to produce daily and annual models of concentrations and loads and associated daily and annual loads of these constituents. Trends in these constituents were also calculated. The U.S. Geological Survey model, Weighted...
Understanding the number of acres of farmland irrigated and the amount of water used for irrigation is central to water-resource planning and public decision making. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Division of Water Resources (TDEC-DWR), compiled available 5-year, county-level data on irrigated acres in Tennessee from 1934 to 2017 from published reports by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Other data published in this dataset are summary statistics for irrigated acreage in Tennessee from 1934-2017, the top counties with the largest number of irrigated acres for each reporting year, as well as a county-level...

Locations of focused (or ‘preferential’) groundwater discharge to surface water are often hydrologically and ecologically important, yet our ability to predict the spatial distribution and water quality of preferential riverbank discharges is limited at the scale of river networks. To advance the understanding of the physical controls on riverbank groundwater discharge processes, discharge zones can be mapped efficiently using handheld and drone-based thermal infrared cameras. Groundwater discharge locations can be identified based on ‘anomalous’ thermal signatures, such as relatively cold riverbank zones in summer and warm riverbank zones in winter. Thermal infrared imaging can be combined with concurrent direct...

Annual estimates of road salt application were initially developed for the conterminous United States for the calendar years 1992 through 2015. As more data became available, years 2016 through 2019 were added to the dataset. The final dataset consists of 28 rasters in Geostationary Earth Orbit Tagged Image File Format (GeoTIFF), one for each year from 1992 through 2019. The final estimates (in pounds) were derived from several data sources, which include road density and proportion of developed land use, depth and spatial extent of long-term snowfall, and the production and distribution of salt sources by state. The extent is the conterminous United States, and the spatial resolution is one-square kilometer.
