Ground-based transient electromagnetic (TEM) data were acquired by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at 16 locations of California’s southwestern San Joaquin Valley and Central Coast regions to define the electrical resistivity structure of hydrogeologic materials. Data were acquired using the ABEM WalkTEM system (Guideline Geo Ab, Sundbyberg, Sweden). TEM data were processed and numerically inverted to derive one-dimensional resistivity structure using SPIA (Aarhus Geosoftware, Aarhus, Denmark). The resulting models reveal vertical variations in electrical resistivity associated with geologic structure and zones of high salinity groundwater. This release includes raw and processed TEM data and a resistivity model...

Airborne electromagnetic (AEM), magnetic, and radiometric data were acquired September 2021 to January 2022 along 27,204 line-kilometers (line-km) over the Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP), Mississippi Embayment, and Gulf Coastal Plain. Data were acquired by Xcalibur Multiphysics (Canada), Ltd. with three different airborne sensors: the 30Hz TEMPEST time-domain AEM instrument that is used to map subsurface geologic structure at depths up to 300 meters (m) depending on the subsurface resistivity; a Scintrex CS-3 cesium vapor magnetometer that detects changes in deep (hundreds of meters to kilometers) geologic structure based on variations in the magnetic properties of different formations; and a Radiation Solutions...

Geophysical measurements were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at five sites in Interior Alaska in September 2021 for the purposes of imaging permafrost structure and quantifying variations in subsurface moisture content in relation to thaw features. Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) measurements were made along transects 110 - 222 m in length to quantify subsurface permafrost characteristics. ERT transects were collected across a fireline boundary within the Bonanza Creek Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) site where repeat measurements have been made since 2014; across and adjacent to two thermokarst lakes, Vault Lake and Goldstream Lake; and along two profiles at the North Star golf course...

This data release provides digital flight line data for a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over parts of northwestern Minnesota near the town of Mentor. The airborne survey was funded by the Earth Mapping Resources Initiative and was designed to meet complementary needs related to geologic mapping and characterization of mineral resource potential. A total of 40,139-line km of magnetic and radiometric data were acquired over an irregular-shaped area of 9140 km2. Data were collected from a fixed-wing aircraft flown at mean terrain clearance of 120 meters (m) above topography along N-S flight lines spaced at 250 m intervals. Tie lines were flown in an E-W direction every 2500 m. Data were collected...

Airborne electromagnetic (AEM) and magnetic survey data were collected during October 2016 along 1,443 line kilometers in the southwestern San Joaquin Valley near Lost Hills, California. These data were collected in support of groundwater salinity mapping and hydrogeologic framework development as part of the U.S. Geological Survey California Oil, Gas, and Groundwater program and the California State Water Resources Control Board’s Program of Regional Monitoring of Water Quality in Areas of Oil and Gas Production. Data were acquired by SkyTEM ApS with the SkyTEM 312 time-domain helicopter-borne electromagnetic system together with a Geometrics G822A cesium vapor magnetometer. The survey was flown at a nominal flight...
Geophysical measurements and related field data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at the Alaska Peatland Experiment (APEX) site in Interior Alaska from 2018 to 2020 to characterize subsurface thermal and hydrologic conditions along a permafrost thaw gradient. The APEX site is managed by the Bonanza Creek LTER (Long Term Ecological Research). In April 2018, seven boreholes were emplaced to depths of 2.3-2.5 meters (m) to allow for repeat logging with downhole nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to quantify the spatial and temporal variations in unfrozen water content within active-layer and permafrost soils. NMR data were collected on ten separate occasions between April 2018 and October 2020. In June...

This dataset consists of 127 wideband and 21 long-period magnetotelluric (MT) stations collected from 2016-2019 across parts of Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois, and Kentucky. The U.S. Geological Survey acquired these data as part of regional investigations into the geologic and tectonic framework of the area and to support mineral resource and geologic hazard investigations. These data have been used to generate a 3D regional conductivity model of the area. Files included in this publication include measured electric- and magnetic-field time series as well as estimated impedance and vertical-magnetic field transfer functions.

Frequency-domain electromagnetic induction data were acquired along approximately 9 line-kilometers with the Geophex GEM-2 system to map variations in structure up to about 10 m in depth. This data release includes the raw and processed frequency-dependent in-phase and quadrature data. They are provided as digital data, and data fields are defined in the data dictionary. Jim Woodruff Lock and Dam is located on the Apalachicola...

Surface electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), electromagnetic induction (EMI), and self-potential (SP) data were acquired March 9 - 20, 2018 by the U.S. Geological Survey, in collaboration with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, at the Jim Woodruff Lock and Dam near Chattahoochee, Florida. Eleven ERT profiles were acquired along the right (west) abutment, and immediately downstream, of the concrete, fixed-crest spillway located west of the lock to map geologic structure at depths up to 50 meters (m) using the Advanced Geosciences, Inc. SuperSting R8 resistivity meter. Frequency-domain electromagnetic induction data were acquired along approximately 9 line-kilometers with the Geophex GEM-2 system to map variations...

Zircon (ZrSiO4) and cassiterite (SnO2) samples were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from the Yazov Granite, Transbaikalia region, Eastern Siberia, Russia. Samples (in the form of mounted loose grains) were prepared and analyzed for direct age dating on a laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (LA–ICPMS) system at the USGS in Denver, Colorado from February 2017 to June 2019. The data indicate that high tin concentrations in the Yazov Granite are caused by inheritance of older cassiterite crystals and may imply that these granites cannot be genetically related to primary tin ore deposits of the region. These results have broad implications in understanding how critical elements,...

This data set compiles the major and trace element chemistry of rock samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at Bokan Mountain, located in the southern part of Prince of Wales Island, southeastern Alaska. Bokan Mountain was formed by an Early Jurassic peralkaline igneous complex that intruded into lower Paleozoic rocks of the Alexander terrane of southeast Alaska. The pluton and surrounding country rocks host numerous mineral deposits and occurrences, including heavy rare earth element (HREE)-rich pegmatites and felsic dikes, as well as mineral deposits rich in uranium, thorium, HREE, and fluorine. The Ross-Adams mine on Bokan Mountain exploited a uranium-thorium deposit intermittently from the late...

This data release includes the airborne magnetic survey data collected from the Iron Mountain-Menominee region of Michigan and Wisconsin. The Mineral Resources Program of the U.S. Geological Survey is tasked with understanding the nation's mineral resources. Precambrian rocks in the region are poorly mapped and understood. Detailed high-resolution airborne magnetic surveys, ground gravity surveys, and limited borehole data are being used to better understand the lithology and structure of both exposed and concealed Precambrian rocks. The primary goal of the airborne magnetic survey is to map lateral variations of magnetization that are related to differences in rock type.
