This surficial-geologic map shows the distribution of unconsolidated deposits and undifferentiated bedrock in the Faith Creek area in the Circle A-4, A-5, B-4, and B-5 quadrangles. This map was prepared principally by the interpretation of 1:63,360-scale, false-color, infrared aerial photographs taken in 1979 and 1981 and is locally verified by ground observations during field work in 2007.

This data file presents 40Ar/39Ar step-heating geochronology results for a granite sample from the Livengood mining district. The Livengood area is a historically productive placer mining area approximately 80 road miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska. This data is a component of a geologic map and accompanying report that synthesizes recently collected and previously published agency and industry geologic data in a 1:50,000-scale comprehensive geologic map to build a better understanding of the geology and mineral-resource potential of the Livengood area.

In support of geologic mapping and hazards evaluation in and near Whittier, Alaska, the Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) acquired, and is making publicly available, lidar (light detection and ranging) data for an area along Passage Canal, Portage Lake, and Portage Glacier Highway. The lidar data, acquired and processed by Watershed Sciences, Inc. (WSI) consist of continuous coverage encompassing an area extending from Portage Lake eastward to Logging Company Bay in Passage Canal in the Seward D-4, D-5, and D-6 1:63,360-scale quadrangles. Lidar data collected below 1,600 ft (488 m) elevation have a minimum average pulse density of 8 pulses/square meter; above 1,600 ft (488 m) data were collected...

This geologic map and report depicts portions of the Livengood B-3, B-4, C-3, and C-4 quadrangles. The Livengood area is a historically productive placer mining area approximately 80 road miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska. This report synthesizes recently collected and previously published agency and industry geologic data in a 1:50,000-scale comprehensive geologic map to build a better understanding of the geology and mineral-resource potential of the Livengood area. It expands and updates the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) Preliminary Interpretive Report (PIR) 2004-3 with the addition of new DGGS mapping and drillhole data from ITH, and integrates previously published DGGS surficial...

This 1:50,000 scale geologic map describes the distribution of unconsolidated deposits, identifies local geologic hazards, and provides information about the depositional environment and basic engineering properties of common surficial-geologic materials in and around Shaktoolik, Alaska. Map units are the result of combined field observations and aerial imagery interpretation. A suite of local ground observations were collected over a two-week period in July 2011 by a helicopter-supported team of DGGS geologists and collaborators. Field investigations included soil test pits, sample collection, soil and rock description, oblique aerial photography, and documentation of landscape morphology.

The Tyonek area in the northwestern Cook Inlet trough is rich in petroleum, coal, geothermal, aggregate, and timber resources, but the detailed geologic mapping necessary for planning future resource development exists only in part of the area. This report and geologic map provide basic surficial-geologic information useful for exploiting those resources and planning future utility corridor developments. In addition to mapping of surficial geologic units, we provide discussion of strategraphic evidence pertaining to physiographic relations and geologic history of volcaniclastic deposits derived from ancestral Mount Spurr, multiple phases of Quaternary glacial activity, Chakachatna River valley landslide complexes...

Personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) conducted a reconnaissance rock sampling project from April 30 to May 4, 2012, to obtain modern, quantitative geochemical analyses to characterize select mafic-ultramafic rocks and one chalcopyrite-bearing quartz vein sample from Yellow Hill on Annette Island, in the Ketchikan Quadrangle, southeastern Alaska. Highlights of this sampling project include mafic-ultramafic rock samples with up to 0.079 ppm platinum (Pt) and 0.123 ppm palladium (Pd), and a quartz vein with 2.83 percent copper (Cu) and 0.155 ppm gold (Au).

In support of the proposed Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project, the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) developed a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based geologic compilation of published and unpublished maps for twelve, inch-to-mile (1:63,360-scale) quadrangles encompassing the proposed hydroelectric project footprint, including the anticipated reservoir and surrounding area. DGGS geologists reviewed and analyzed existing geologic mapping for quality and completeness, and the maps were converted for use in GIS. The conversion process included scanning and georeferencing the original hard-copy map documents, creating a geodatabase, digitizing the geologic data, assigning attributes, and...

The Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) has conducted 1:63,360-scale geologic mapping of the Eagle A-1 Quadrangle. The area is part of the 100-year old Fortymile mining district and is located in eastern Alaska near the Alaska-Yukon border. This map illustrates potential near-surface sources of various geologic materials that may be useful for construction. Field observations indicate that each geologic unit (for example, stream alluvium) has a definite composition or range of composition. Therefore, the probable presence of materials is interpreted from the distribution of geologic units on the geologic map of this quadrangle. This map is generalized and is not intended to show exact locations...

This derivative engineering-geologic map illustrates potential near-surface sources of various geologic materials that may be useful for construction near the Dalton Highway area, from Atigun Gorge to Slope Mountain. The map area is located in the west-central Philip Smith Mountains quadrangle. The map extends from the northern flank of the Endicott Mountains into the Arctic Foothills province. Field observations indicate that each geologic unit (for example, stream alluvium) has a definite composition or range of composition. Therefore, the probable presence of materials is interpreted from the distribution of geologic units on the geologic map of this quadrangle. Map unit descriptions also include discussion of...
