This map was developed to examine multi-scale spatial relationships between percentage of sagebrush and other response variables of interest. A map of sagebrush in the western United States was used as a base layer for a moving window analysis to calculate the percentage of the area classified as sagebrush within a 54-km search radius.
This model is based on how house cats utilize wildlands near human habituation. These predators can have detrimental effects on wildlife populations (Alterio et al. 1998). We based our model on the data collected by Odell and Knight (2001) that investigated habitat utilization of these predators with regard to distance from housing and on the probability for a homeowner to possess a house cat. We buffered the populated areas distance layer in ARC/INFO using a probability function [P = 0.216 - 0.96 * Distance (km)] where any cell with distance less than 0.18km received a probability between 0.216 to 0. All distances greater than or equal to 0.18km from populated areas were assigned a probability of 0. The resulting...
This map depicts the proportion of non-Sage-grouse habitat with 18km of each pixel. The map was produced using a moving window analysis on the Distribution of Non-Sage Grouse Habitat in the Conservation Assessment Area with a search radius of 18km. The product of the moving window was the mean pixel value within the window. This map has a 540m resolution.
Rest areas in the western United States. Data was collected from various data sources including georeferenced locations obtained from other agencies, digitized points from various state maps, and other state GIS layers.
Density (km / km^2) of all roads in the western United States. Dataset was developed to generalize the 2000 US Census TIGER/Line Roads layer to a density within 18km of each pixel. Obtained from 2000 US Census TIGER/Line Roads using LINEDENSITY with an 18km search radius.
This map depicts the distribution of sagebrush and associated shrub-steppe habitat types using readily available data from a variety of source maps from WA, OR, CA, UT, NV, CO, WY, MT, ND, SD, AZ, NM, AB, and BC. Habitat was grouped from map sources that were classified with detailed information on specific sagebrush types, as well as coarse-scale maps that classified vegetation as only "shrub" in the case of ND and the Canadian provinces. This map is a 90-meter grid, but source material included 30 to 90-meter grids, and 1:24,000 and 1:100,000 polygon coverages.

Greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) have been declining both spatially and numerically throughout their range due to anthropogenic disturbance and loss and fragmentation of sagebrush (Artemisia spp.) habitats. Understanding how sage-grouse respond to these habitat alterations and disturbances, particularly the types of disturbances and extent at which they respond, is critical to designing management actions and prioritizing areas of conservation. To address these needs, we developed this spatially explicit model of the relationship between occurrence and abundance of greater sage-grouse and multi-scaled measures of vegetation, abiotic, and disturbance in the Wyoming Basins Ecoregional Assessment (WBEA)...
