Location data for exploratory, sciencific, or engineering borings conducted statwide since the early 1900s. Drill Core and/or other samples from a large number of these borings are stored in the DNR's Drill Core Library in Hibbing, Minnesota. For more information on the drill core library please vist the DNR's webpage: http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lands_minerals/dc_library.html

Collections of physical samples and data managed and preserved by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The separate collections are managed by different projects and Mission Areas of the USGS. The collections are distributed across the United States, in various USGS offices. Preservation of some of these collections may be supported by the National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program. USGS strives to publicly expose its materials, data, and other research to further scientific inquiry. Points of contact for individual collections may be contacted to request access to materials and data.

The mission of the Colorado Geological Survey is building vibrant economies and sustainable communities, free from geologic hazards, for people to live, work and play through good science, collaboration, and sound management of mineral, energy and water resources. Geoscientific collections managed by Colorado Geological Survey are aggregated in the National Digital Catalog to enhance discovery and use of valuable samples and data for further scientific research. Contact information and material access instructions are provided for the individual collections.
Dataset contains point data describing the results of 1-channel and 12-channel seismic refraction studies mapped at a scale of 1:24,000, from the Maine Geological Survey. The results include the depth to the water and depth to the bedrock. Links are also provided, when available, to the profile graphs for the seismic line.

Rock samples (n=4) of anhydrite with rounded nodules of braitschite, a hydrous calcium rare-earth borate mineral. Samples are from the Cane Creek Potash Mine, Texas Gulf Sulphur Company, located in Grand County, UT, south of Moab, Utah. The samples were discovered in the marine evaporites in the Paradox Member of the Hermosa Formation of Pennsylvanian age in the Paradox basin. The zone of braitschite nodules occurs in depths from 3,000 to 3,500 feet. The braitschite was found in pinkish to white nodules that are approximately 65% braitschite and approximately 35% quartz, anhydrite, dolomite, halite as well as minor amounts of hematite and the occassional crystals of chalcopyrite. Sample material was collected in...

In 2008, Virginia Department of Energy received by donation from the University of Virginia (UVA) a large collection of rock, mineral, and fossil specimens that was at risk of imminent disposal or dispersal due to the lack of adequate storage facilities. The collection includes many valuable and irreplaceable geologic specimens collected in Virginia by UVA students, faculty, and geoscientists from the early Virginia Geological Survey. Parts of the collection were at one time displayed in the Lewis Brooks Hall of Natural Science, which opened in 1877. Following the closure of the UVA Department of Geology in the 1960s, the collection was moved to various warehouse storage areas, where it was largely forgotten and...

This collection contains 53 New Jersey Zinc Company zinc exploration maps and associated soil logs. They span a large part of northern New Jersey in Morris, Sussex, Hunterdon and Warren counties. The maps are held solely by the NJGWS. At one time these maps and soil logs were the property of the New Jersey Zinc Company but were donated to the NJGWS when the New Jersey Zinc Company went out of business in 1986.

This collection consists of parts of two cores, USGS 6 and USGS 7. The cores are 3 inches in diameter, with three feet of core per box. USGS 6 has 19 boxes of a non-continuous interval, 57 feet total. USGS 7 has 1 box. The cores are halite of the Salado Formation ranging in color from clear through pink to reddish orange (Roach 1966) and are Permian in age. Depths range from 1143 ft to 1437 ft. The cores were drilled following the nuclear detonation of Project Gnome in 1961. Roach (1966; USGS Branch of Astrogeology) took slices from the cores to analyze the thermoluminescence properties of the halite and how they were affected by the nucelar blast.
Geoscientific collections managed by Virginia Energy, Geology and Mineral Resources program are aggregated in ReSciCol to enhance discovery and use of valuable samples and data for further scientific research. Contact information and material access instructions are provided for the individual collections.
This web map application makes available the georeferenced digital images of the significant sand and gravel aquifer quadrangle maps published by the Maine Geological Survey at the 1:24,000 scale. It also shows the seismic line profile graph locations.
